    Uhhhhh ....

    followed by NO!  🤪

I bought a brand new one, Hornby R30287, for £65 (inc delivery) for my birthday a couple of weeks ago.  Of course, I DID source it a bit more locally....

There are a lot of overpriced second hand L&Y Pugs about, even more second hand and frankly past their best Caledonian Pugs too.  Does it make more sense for a Japan based buyer?

I'm shocked and surprised that no one has come back

and pointed out that the second saying cannot be derived

from the first . There is one S to many , and no V available .

Where have all the pedants gone ???        😀

Its Half Term. They're all camping in the Lake District....

We went to Hoo Zoo Dinosaur World this afternoon.  We got in for nothing as we had  a free return admission from our visit last Easter.

I whispered cake, and guess who popped up?

Just think of the electronic format stuff that has already become unreadable.

A lot of VHS tape stuff has failed, too.

A friend's daughter told her father that history is harder than ever, because there is ever more of it! How true, but not in the way she probably meant!

There was a programme on the telly the other night about recovering text from incinerated papyrus scrolls found by archaeologists while excavating Roman Herculaneum, destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD.

By the end of the programme, and after much effort, they'd deciphered one word...

And as discussed in "The Chronicles of St Marys", History is just "One damned thing after another..."

Back to MRC, I've issues from 1946, and the final issue too.

    Phew!  Back on topic!

I have an important health and safety announcement,  after literally minutes of thought I hypothesise that contact with plastic models causes finger cancer. These musings prove beyond any doubt the terrible link, supported by my proprietary model using an algorithm I made up. Yes friends, for safety sake you should immediately destroy any plastic models and stick with brass and white metal, act now before it's too late!

This then increases the incidence of serious burns caused by inept/inexperienced modellers picking their soldering irons up by the wrong end...

  7. Meanwhile, I'm drinking a muggacoffee and listening to Radio 3 while waiting for a friend to bring their brand new laptop for me to decontaminate and then install some basic useful software...

I assume you are extremely careful not to be caught in the act of doing this and are always quick to offer to unload the machine before your 'improvements' are discovered.

This is another argument in favour of hand-dishwashing: the process is entirely under one's own control. Danger only arises if you suggest that items are being dried up in the wrong order, leaving insufficient room for newly-washed items. (Glasses, cups, and mugs have priority, followed by plates and bowls; cutlery should be left to last. I have been known to resort to the subterfuge of hiding the cutlery at the bottom of the washing-up bowl...)

I usually do glasses, cups and mugs, followed by cutlery, then plates and bowls. Pans and greasy things, eg the rack from the airfryer, come last of all.  Whoever is drying is given ample time to perform...

Ah, they'd never be able to control themselves, thyristors weren't invented in 1893.

It's not the same as it was DC wise either, the mercury-arc rectifiers are now out of service in Laxey, shame.

This is a shot of them on their last day in, err, arc.

Looks like something from "Quatermass and the Pit"*....

    * Close railway** link too!

Following on from Dave's comment, could I please have some sensible suggestions on the sort of gradient I can get 009 locos to climb, without either spinning to a stop or emitting smoke and sparks from the non functioning chimney?

Ideally, I'd want the line to cross over itself in a figure of eight style arrangement on a radius of around 12".

Sounds like one of CJ Freezers favourite "rabbit warren" layouts.  Pity he's no longer around....

I have a plea. Since the media is and will be full of political drivel for the foreseeable future, can we here on TNM concentrate instead on other matters that may help me to retain what sanity I have left?

Sorry, its just that the proposals for National Service and Tax Allowance indexing for pensioners seemed to be a pairing beyond sanity to appeal to elderly folk....

I, for one, will be good henceforth.  🤪

If you must have a machine to do the dishes (and remember that when the machines rise up against us it will be the domestic appliances that are in the vanguard) and you must have grandchildren visiting, surely a good way to keep them occupied would be to have them load and unload the dishwasher? Hours of fun.

    HI Neil,

How do you make the 500V DC?

As it's the IOM I'm slightly surprised its not three-phase. I mean, two on the rails and one on the overhead 😆

    Sounds like Trix Twin..

And speaking of Rishi, there was some nonsense on the news this morning about increasing the basic tax allowance for pensioners, now that the triple-locked full state pension is the same....
