250 Grandkids?  From one child??  Jeez, they must be knackered.

Even assuming a typo, 25 grandsprogs would be going it.  Unless the original sprog was a lad and spread his oats about a bit...

Was driving behind someone today, driving at 60kmh in 80 then 70 zones.
Further up the road, the limit drops to 50kmh.

Any guess as to what speed they then proceeded to drive at, with brakes on all the way down the not steep hill?

Plus an extra dab on the brakes every time there's a SLOW marker in the road.....

Ah, the good old days when we still use pen and paper?

Young folks now would probably use ChatBot to write it for them.

"ChatBot, can you write me a covering letter and a CV suitable for a job as Editor of RMWeb?"

Certainly. How many other jobs shall I say you had, and much salary would you like?

    Run it and post it.....

The gentle comedy of Dad’s Army benefits from our hindsight of course. Those men were never called upon, but would indeed have been the ‘first line of defence’ had there been an invasion; and for a parallel look at Germany in 1945. Their equivalent, the Volksturm, included a lot of WWI veterans too, and killed a lot of Allied soldiers and helped delay their advance even though poorly equipped and of … shall we say … variable morale and motivation.

And Captain Mainwaring, although mostly a buffoon, is shown in a handful of episodes as not lacking in personal courage when he thinks the chips are down.

Fortunately we never had to find out how they would have performed, but sometimes people will do remarkable things in direct defence of their homes. One of the writers had served in the Home Guard as a young man - effectively the “real” Private Pike - and he knew of what he wrote.

Some Home Guard were trained as "stay behind" resistance if the Germans had landed and rolled over their unfortunate colleagues. A suicide mission, if captured they would have been shot out of hand.

  5. The only Dapol 6-wheeled loco I haven't got is a Pannier!

On the other hand, I've the black, unliveried Terrier, the recently reduced BR liveried Jinty, a black 08 and a couple of 14xx in black and green liveries respectively.

I'll have to build a layout for them to appear on, I suppose the best bet would be the terminus of a fictional "heritage" railway...

Fingers crossed that no more reasonably priced small locos turn up.

    Bear here……

A brief mission accomplished earlier, followed by cr@p paperwork then bvggerin’ about with a new printer cartridge that refuses to be recognised - even after trying the usual tricks.  As I bought it in mid 2022 as a part of a full colour set the seller (Stinkyinks) won’t send a replacement as it’s more than 12 months.  T0ssers 🤬. A new one is on it’s way to Bear Towers - from a different company…..

    The bit that really p1sses me off is I want a B & W print - and it’s a colour cartridge…… 🤬

Post din dins and Bear goes for a Hilly Walk - despite the rain.  What happens?  Some complete T0sser drives thru’ a puddle at speed as Bear was walking past…… 🤬🤬🤬

And they were in a Fiat 500 with no oncoming traffic.

Rumour has it that A Certain Bear might just have called them a naughty word that rhymes with at least part of Sqn. Ldr Hunt…..

Now it’s pitstop time, followed by Killer Hill No. 2 then the long uphill back to Bear Towers, whereupon I’ll have a coat & strides to wash….🤬🤬

Did I mention the word T0sser by any chance?

    BG

Obviously not a very Bear-Friendly day....

    Hope things improve!

On the other hand, we also got subjected to complete sh!t like "Mind Your Language", "Love Thy Neighbour", "Some Mothers Do Ave em" and "Are You Being Served?"

All depending on very crude stereotypes for alleged humour.  Another teethachingly awful "sitcom" from the following decade was "Keeping Up Appearances".

Luckily none of the above seem to be on the repeats bandwagon, even on the furthest reaches of Freeview!

"Porridge" now seems an overidealised representation of life behind bars...

    I'm scared/worried...

I bought something and after paying ice realised it's coming from gostude... It's all going to go terribly wrong...

I've bought stuff off gostude and its been fine, as described and quick delivery.

Naturally, I've not bought the finely chiselled stuff he sometimes offers...

    Good morning afternoon everyone

We got up a little bit later than planned, so it was a bit of a rush first thing. Then when I opened the iPad, there had been another bl00dy update!

    Warning rant coming.

Whenever there is an update, for some reason all the apps etc I’ve got on my home page move about or get deleted, even ones I use regularly. If I wanted them moved or re-arranged, I can do it myself, I don’t need bl00dy Apple to do it for me. So this took up about 20 minutes to sort out, pah.

Anyway, once done, I headed off to the butchers and got the weekly meat rations and a pork pie for my dinner. After that, I headed off to the Trafford Centre for a few more bits and pieces. Now sat at the table in the dining room with a well earned muggertea.

    Back later.

    Brian

Not just Apple, my Android tablets occasionally play musical chairs when there's been an update, and this Samsung Galaxy Tab 9A+ I'm currently using insists on shutting down apps that it doesn't think I'm using enough...

    Automated replies.

First reply would be the acknowledgement they got the application.

Second one means they have got enough people to interview or the vacancy is filled.

And there's no indication of how close to the deadline the application was made.  With computerised application processes, assessment of applications is an ongoing activity, rather than waiting until the deadline has passed.

Joseph Conrad incorporated many Asian seamen in his works.

Because, depending on the trading route, they were a familiar component of a large ships crew.  Its like finding a colony of scotsmen in the engine room*.

    * Hence Scotty in the original Startrek...

I was toying with posting a general question: 'Has anyone ever actually built a model railway?' Then thought better of it!

    Some people do, I believe...

I wish someone would find that tape (or whatever) they have on the Mersey Ferries and drop the damn thing over the side!

Just in case anyone didn't realise the awfulness of the dirge.

Nearly 60 years?  Ye GODS, ENOUGH!!!
