  1. I've been pondering the fact that I've not doen any modelling for at least three months! Been chewing over the idea of a larger version of this layout either a new build or an extended version of it. The question is can I face the building of that many arches x 2 again! Not sure I can as yet. To be honest not sure I have the space anyway really, as the other side of the shed is taken up with Summerhill and I still really enjoy that layout so I'm far from ready to replace it. Good job the shed out on our allotment has got no 'lecie otherwise that might become a duel purpose shed!!!! Space - the constant limiting factor of our model railway dreams.
  2. Not the clc but local interest all the same! 2P on a one coach train? http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/image/epw050524
  3. 'Borrowed' Just like Bath MPD 'borrowed' a Bank Hall black 5 for a run over the S&D once!
  4. The sort of chord I wanted it to hit, Frank. Cheers

    Mayshill - GWR

    Nice layout, nice pics
  6. It is 5' 3" by 1 foot! As you will see there is a kind of temporary extension to the fiddle line (not yard!) which adds another few inches to this. The thing I like most about it is the weight as being constructed out of foamboard with a hardboard scenic top it is remarkable light.
  7. That's great to hear. I look forward to seeing your Akenfield layout emerge. What have you planned for it?
  8. Brian, Hoover, Ranger, thanks. The two buildings for the backscene are old pics , one is copied from a black and white postcard I came across - i think the building was in Leeds, and the other a pic from the web that the owner allowed me to use. Since building this I have become a big advocate of small layouts - They can be LOTS of fun! Most importantly the end of the build is quickly in sight and so keeps momentum high.

  10. Cheers Armin, so glad you like it.Yes it is nearly finished! I've enjoyed bringing a project to fruition a lot faster than larger layouts would allow.
  11. Just a single track. I'll post a pic of that area tomorrow
  12. Thanks, yes intend to keep it simple.I'm pleased too with that backscene. Quite agree that it could be 1977 as much as 1963. I've always been fascinated by semi-neglected end of life yards like this.Wish I'd had the sense to seek them out in my late teens but too busy drinking beer and chasing unsuitable women!
  13. I need to seal the printing ink on those arches . Has anyone had any experience of sealing in print outs from a HP printer (ink jet) - What did you use successfully?
  14. The gate will be weathered and finished off tomorrow
  15. Did a bit of work on it today
  16. Certainly considering buying a diesel or two!
  17. Yes they are Scalescene arches. Alex the layout is 1' by 5'3"
  18. These are some first pics of SOUTHPORT ROAD GOODS. It is a Liverpool set micro layout in which I’m attempting to capture the feel of some of the North Liverpool yards that once existed. The layout structure is mainly foamboad construction It is early days and not much scenic work has been undertaken except for the arches. The bridge you see spanning the entrance to the yard is a temporary one placed just for the pics and will be replaced with a proper structure soon. The arches supposedly carry some sidings on an Ex LYR line. The Preston Station Pilot Jinty you see in the pics ended up in Liverpool after helping an an ailing Black 5 on a Preston – Exchange service (It’s reputed to have been doing 65 plus through Maghull) and never went home again, the staff at Aintree Shed taking a fancy to it! These days, it rarely gets above 15mph shunting around Southport Road Goods yard except if it’s a Saturday and regular driver on the shunt, Jack, wants to get off early to catch the electric service up to Crosby to watch Marine FC play.
  19. Ever used to shunt around various Liverpool yards I wonder?
  20. Fantastic work here! Thanks for posting.
  21. Good effort this. Well done. I like the view with the milk van
  22. I remember RM featuring a layout called Denthead. Mid 70's ? I think it was 00. It was built by a young guy who had a great deal of skill for his tender years. I think I was about the same age but he was light years ahead of me! Lots of kitbuilt locos etc. Always wondered what else he might have gone on to build. Anyone remember this layout based on the S&C? Jenkinson's big adventure in his shed in 00 (again S&C) a layout I think that was never finished , also made a big impression on me. And whatever happened to that wonderful female modeller of around the same time who built wonderful buildings galore for a LBSCR line? Her name escapes me.
  23. I think you'll find there was no coalition box to tick.
