  1. Done some scenic work this morning on the higher level line. Moving structures and backgrounds around at the moment to see what looks best. Backgrounds not glued down to backscene as yet.
  2. I like this a great deal!
  3. WIgan Wallgate eh? Now I like that idea! Lots of freight to and from Liverpool I expect. Where are you with it? Len
  4. So the shed goes in and we get a better idea of how the old layout fits into the new... Looking towards the turntable and the road above. The old goods layout line (at top) is extended at this point and will take a right hand turn beyond the scenic break to emerge at a right angle in some other other yard of some sort The pits outside the shed are PECO and those inside the shed are scratchbuilt Ooh we've not even finished and there's a loco on shed! That shed wall leans a bit!
  5. The bottom section , like the top half , will be code 75,re-spaced and with points re-wired so that juice is not reliant on the blades (the best improvement anyone can make to otherwise good Peco points) It will be a four road shed, with the coaling stage back down the other end near to the turntable road.
  6. . Decided to incorporate the old Southport Goods Layout into a larger layout. Basically there will now be a new Steam MPD on the lower level The superquick shed you see sticking out in the top pic will not be used.Something much more 'Northern' is required!
  7. Nice pics. Goodness though, they are truly ugly locos those 66's aren't they ?
  8. Are we talking about the same working here I wonder because the web site showed it as cancelled today. Is it that its only running as far as Wigan Wallgate? if so, why only Wallgate and not the whole route? Len
  9. Rea Really? That's really annoying 'cos the web site showed this mornings working as cancelled.
  10. Has sthis started r Has this started running? I'm confused because I found the service on REALTIME TRAINS (fab site by the way!) went down to Rainford to photograph it a couple of weeks back and was told by the signalman on duty there that it does not start running until June! (was planned for March) Can anyone clarify? Is it running already occasional;y then as driver training? What's an MPV?
  11. This layout is for sale (not stock of course) if anyone is remotely interested! Need to make some space for a new project.
  12. Anyone else out there using foamboard?
  13. What a beauty of a layout
  14. The foamboard has stood up well to a lot of handling as the layout has been moved around the shed a few times - very pleased with its qualities - Strength and lightness
  15. Trainz is great because it is vey easy to construct new routes and the list of buildings bridges, track types etc is HUGE! I think it is a very underused tool for railway modelers as you could for example knock up a very presentable sim of your proposed layout in a short period of time and change it about until you are happy with how it looks. Has anybody on here actually done this before building their layout 'proper'?
  16. I was wondering what the last ever steam loco to work over this line might have been. If it was a special, then what perhaps was the last ordinary service train worked by a steam loco over the line? Can anyone help?
  17. For years there was a MR (not LMS) box van in the yard in st Helens Shaw st. Still there as late as perhaps 88 when it was cut up. Also seem to remember 2 oe 3 very old wagons stationary for years in the BICC siding at Prescot too. I remember seeing in Belgium a line of vans which had been there so long in a siding that trees with trunks 3 or 4 inches wide had grown right through them!
  18. I dare you to produce Birkdale Palace Hotel!!! http://www.spookyisles.com/2013/04/murder-suicide-faded-seaside-glamour-in-southports-haunted-hotel/
