  1. So round the corner we go.. The signal box is a Lcut kit, the road bridge is scratch built as is the platform. The camera is in the goods yard.
  2. I agree, just isn't right, which is why it is just plonked there at the moment. I will have a search for insperation.
  3. Water poured, not sure about my scratch built humpback bridge.. Happy with the two scratch built railway bridges.
  4. Static grass applied and a bit of vegitation, trying to blend into the backscene. The riverbed is ready for the water..
  5. Moving along the scene a bit I continued building a base layer scenery.
  6. A tunnel portal has been embedded into the hillside and backscene added. My attempt at making some pine trees doesn't look so great!
  7. A base layer of scatter was added in various shades blended together. The road has been sprayed with a base coat. My first two locos, both are approx. 1978 models, the class 25 is identical to my first ever loco that I got when I was 8/9. I picked it up for a tenner. The class 29 I bought a month or so later for £25. They both run well on code 75 track. Both have been converted to DCC and had the lighting stripped out.
  8. So here is a rough plan, the baseboards are the correct shape however I have never measured the exact size!!! The track plan evolved as I went along. The engine shed area was added as I like the idea of having them on display rather than hidden in the fiddle yard.
  9. It's in a 11x12 foot room (half a detached garage). I really should draw a track plan..
  10. I also wanted a bit of countryside where the baseboards are 3ft wide. Plaster bandage over polystyrene packaging and screwed up newspaper. The road surface is foamboard. The plaster bandage was then topped with an experimental mix of paper animal bedding and plaster, then painted a mix of green and brown acrylic paint. The bridge is scratch built and weathered.
  11. I returned to the hobby in 2020 just before the first lockdown happened and decided I would commit to build a 00 gauge layout in a converted garage at our new house (When we finnally moved). I wanted a loosely based Scottish feel through station, I decided against the typical west highland type Island platform and instead came up with a single platform with a bay and through line. I also wanted a goods yard supporting many different goods. Building started in October 2020, I was so keen to get going I hadn't painted the walls yet!
  12. So I have been away from the hobby for several years after dabbiling in N gauge. My eyesight and craving for more detail this time means retuning to 00 gauge. I considered 0 gauge but decided I prefer to try 00 gauge for now. I started back in 2020 just before the first lockdown when I purchased a Prodigy express DCC and a Hornby Black 5. The first lockdown project was a Wills 2 road engine shed, I like the idea of gentle easing into scratch building...
  13. Thanks for the replies. Looking around I couldn't see any examples of private companies using the "Off-side" of the bay platform. I had suspected H&S would have been a concern during loading/unloading. I think I have now discounted this idea.
  14. Hi, I was wondering if a adjacent industrial building would ever share the bay platform line for loading wagons? ie. Milk, parcels, boxed goods, etc... The platform is an island with local DMU's and local steam trains using the terminus side, the opposite side from the platform I intend to place a large industrial type building and had the thought, would they be allowed to use the line for loading/unloading.
  15. Thanks so far guys. I have drawn a trackplan with a better idea of distance between signals. Distance between signals 12/13 & 3/4/5 is 3 foot.
  16. Thanks for your take on it. My signalled diagram is just for trains from the left heading right so far.
  17. I have knocked up this picture from what you have described..
  18. Thank you for the reply and pictures. That helps a lot.
  19. I'm afraid i'm a signalling numpty...
  20. Thanks for the reply Clagmeister. I may need to get my translation book out
  21. My layout is Scottish in nature. Period 1960-early 70's. Branch line is passenger only with trains using the bay platform as a lay-over between timetabled trips down the branch. I would have branch trains arrive at the main platform (When steam or Diesel hauled) with the loco running round and repositioning the train into the bay for the return trip after a lay-over. I would also have parcels traffic using the bay platform. Trap points I will keep in mind thanks.
  22. Looking for some tips on signals and positions on my layout. This is something I have never been able to get my head around. Here is my track plan- The Red block is the station. Black line is the main line. Green is the Bay platform. Blue is goods avoidance line and goods reception/dispatch. Yellow is the branch line. Purple is the goods yard. Distance between the yellow branch & blue avoidance line is about 2 foot. I would expect a Token system would be used. I plan to use LMS style semiphore signals. Any help appreciated?
  23. Great show, plenty of trade support and veriety of layouts on show. Wanted to vote for best in show but couldn't see anything regarding voting. Signage from car park and between halls was a bit lacking. (Sorry) I almost missed hall 2. P.S. I would have voted for either Much Murkle or Cranmore.
