  1. it was said by local observers that they were appearing to batten down the hatches, & remove all at risk plant to Teignmouth docks before the tidal swell/storm arrival the larger container might have been the one with the drilling equipment in it
  2. HEARSAY just heard someone say on Dawlish Beach cam that one of the JUBs will; be leaving shortly but still a few 'Ls' left to place Dawlish sunrise this Sun am Courtesy of Dawlish Beach cam
  3. Between the slope at the coast guard end of the low walkway & the first 'L' unit there is an old major drain outlet, seen here with its cast iron cover flap below which are some recent holes with inserted reinforcing protruding horizontally Parallell train windows & scaffolding uprights the remaining space for 'L' units at the north end piles of what appear to be wood shuttering at the south end maybe next lift up is contemplated?? & theodolite in view The crane then lifted a compressor, to a great height, & reached out a fair way may be, possibly testing bells & whistles on his overload warning systems
  4. Managed to get out before the worst of the rain this am, From Rockstone bridge, drainage construction works close up, noticeably there is no tongue on this end of the 'L' unit for some reason groove on 'L' unit at other end of run Aerial activity Looks a bundle of steel channels loads of steel & scaffolding shorts on deck of JUB 1 no 'L' units visible on deck, and traffic lights removed from Exeter road, but all pumps are there at road side, so looks like this is a bit of complicated drainage & reinforcing being weaved around it before pumping can start again with bad weather forecast at weekend with high tides due someone has also thought of the local motorists!!! well done that guy or gal
  5. Tuesday 17th Feb 2015 beautiful day in Dawlish, for most of the morning not a cloud in the sky. 12.02 south bound 125 ( no No. on the yellow cab end??? facing forward?) the crew are cracking on with the job At 1 pm this container, assumed to contain the drilling rig was craned off one of the JUBs and down onto the seawall 5 mins later some procedure was followed and quickly the container was removed back to the JUB
  6. 40 years ago I used to clean windows down Sealawn Terrace, Nobody wanted windows doing in winter .but the B&Bs wanted then clean for Easter hols. Some then had to be scraped with a paint scraper to get rid of salt crystals Some were so sand blasted, they resembled lightly frosted glass that's mainly the ground floor windows
  7. Friday 13 Feb 2015, taken just after high tide for those concerned for my safety, my viewpoint was where the waves did not come so high as in the photos. one thing for sure, the drains in that new wall are working! at least 6 can be seen in this pic Some minor damage was observed, access stairs, temporary scaffolding ones? displaced from the bottom Which is not surprising as the waves at that point were quite high! Standing at the top end of the approach steps two Rockstone bridge, when a wave hit the sea wall you could feel the path shake
  8. Mon 2.30 pm this photo shows that the foundation has been poured where the last containers had stood possibly drilling & pins to be inserted next
  9. Oh yes, sorry later this afternoon was seen at work on the beach sorry this was shot into the sun and later still was parked up at Redrock the beach generally looked soft as seen by these tracks
  10. There is a video on dawlish webcam page, you could get a screen grab from that , on the 5th I think it was https://www.facebook.com/dawlishbeach
  11. Later the tug Taska returned with a blue bunker of diesel for the Jack up barges Info was from a passing orange clad guy saw an 'L' unit being lowered into place the path that goes across the top of Rockstone Bridge is also a Bridle path EDIT;- there was also shuttering in place, with one section having been poured, where the last remaining containers had been moved from
  12. Swing arm shovel in trouble, he had left Redrock, & was nearly at Rockstone bridge when he lurched sideways in a spot of soft sand, he swung his bucket arm out to stop further tipping then he swung back the other way & put his bucket on the bottom step to possibly pull him self out but now he's not moving. Boss? do you want the good news first or the bad??
  13. Found a photo of mine from 2012 taken Jan 1st showing at least two wood groynes completely INTACT by Dawlish station. they are in a very sorry state now
  14. Didn't recognise you till I downloaded my pics onto the big screen, I had been out for over 2 hours by then & although well wrapped up, 2 coats with hood, leg muff on, decided it was time to move on before the cold got to me. But I did have a field day with photos!!
  15. My apologies for that omission at a guess, you have swopped your hard hat for a wooly one
  16. How wrong can you be! digger at work loading big white dumper, seen under the far JUB1 Probably clearing what is left out of the containers that were removed yesterday probably after the rough seas only the larger rocks & concrete bits!
  17. Looks like very little on site work will get done today Jacking barges well up, no gangways down little sign of activity on the Dawlish beach webcam, it looks like NWR have replaced the webcam pic with a video instead dont know when that got moved but there was an orange water tank trailer on the wall to the right of the blue genny/compressor hope the sea didn't get it EDIT;- just checked my pics from yesterday at 3pm ish , the tank was not there then, perhaps back on the JUB? but there were 2 blue gennys/ comps one behind the other maybe the other is out of sight of the webcam?
  18. Shallow reinforcing cages, to be used perhaps on the top finish layer of the walkway?? closeup of the two lines of 'L' units the nearer holding up the railway (laid in March last year) the farther with the joining reinforcing exposed laid in Jan-Feb this year closeup of Red 7 Marine Seariser 4 or JUB 1 with its own lifeboat ready on the hoist closeup of the crane & one of the jack up legs locking gear Storage containers the hook that has lifted every one of the new 'L' units into place the landing area for the 'L' units when incoming off the pontoons with dunnage & protective wood decking & check stop girders yellow working cage to be let down on crane hook for access to outside of wall and also a stack of reinforcing cages on deck the shipping container with the small digger with the drilling rig mounted on it obviously craned on deck before each high tide for protection
  19. The last of the shipping containers was moved today leaving a hole the last few bits being scraped up the dumper departing for Redrock compound The concrete pipe line & spare pipes up on the right top with drain? pipes vertical on the left Pipes beside the footpath leading down from the Rockstone flats layby a load of stuff is carried down by hand because of the steps drainage junction point being dragged down the lights are not yet connected up Loads of camera men about today, that maybe the BBC camera man work men, foremen, administrators, politicians, & cameramen & women At the small stone breakwater at the Old lifeboat House men were at work on the pointing finished ( for now ) up in Exeter road in the traffic light there was an orange concrete pumper and a black concrete pumper but only one supply pipe connected, there not being two
  20. Observation its a good job those on the ground, listen to weather forecasts, but also use local knowledge, by Dawlish Beach webcam 'L'units were delivered this am (7 ish?) and are now being placed on the wall sea looks quite placid ( but dont turn your back on it!!) From NWR cam and from Dawlish Beach Cam
  21. There looks to be still only ONE concrete delivery pipe down the back wall even though there are 2 pipes UNDER the railway Passing through the traffic light up on the main road it looked as if there are now 2 concrete pumps behind the padded screens sat the side of the road with both receiving hoppers facing each other so any mixer lorry can unload into either from one spot
  22. After looking at this afternoons photos, I would estimate that there are now 65-70 units in place on the wall About 37 from far end to that black marker at top & then about 30 from there to this end that was at 3.30 this afternoon was briefly on Rockstone bridge, seen here in the back ground of this shot taken from Dawlish Viaduct when some gear was being carried down the steps & along the wall these are the fixings for the 'L' units the fixing nuts are about 2.5 - 3 inches across the flats the square plates are about 1 inch ( 25mm ) thick & about 9 x 9 ins square looks like a very coarse thread these 2 were carrying a double load
  23. 11.22 all 'L' units gone of deck of Seariser 4 / JUB 1 and now in place at north end of new barricade
  24. Loads of activity already this morning, or should that be, ongoing activity 'L' units being craned onto wall at far end Plant/skip/etc being craned onto wall by hydraulic crane in foreground Tug, Boojum Bay? departing for Teignmouth with empty pontoon From DB webcam
  25. Looks like at least 8 'L' units put in place today at north end of operations I have no pics as I was in Exeter, but there are two short vids on DB facebook page https://www.facebook.com/dawlishbeach posted by Mick Taylor
