THEORY it shouldn't get blocked as soon as last concrete gets into pipeline at the roadside pumper, a foam ball is inserted into the pipe & forced under pressure to clear the pipe of any concrete But, but if there is an engine or pump failure then unless there is emergency rescue plan concrete will set in the pipe when I was a lorry driver in the 60s a mate was self employed under Ready Mix SW in a isolated rural location, engine failure, resulted in his mixer barrel setting before a rescue could be affected ( no mobile phones in those days) had to have a new barrel, which even then wern't cheap

So maybe 2 concrete delivery pipes will enable one to deliver concrete to the newly placed 'L' units at the north end & the other to deliver concrete to whatever they are going to be adding on top of those already in place at the south end must have a see if they have brought a 2nd pump into place up on the main road

Mon 2nd Feb 2015 since 16.40 yesterday JUB1, Seariser 4 has been moved further north From Dawlish Beach Cam with their permission EDIT;- and from NWR webcam at http://www.networkrail.co.uk/timetables-and-travel/storm-damage/dawlish/ JUB 1 with a load of 'L' units arrived overnight So it just might be that they are now going to continue placing 'L' units from the north end been snowing a bit in Devon
  4. Yes, there is definately 2 pipes under the track but still only one up the wall

Whatever turns out to be the final wall surface finish there is, or rather was, last time I looked, loads of white dumpy bags full of natural stone at Dawlish Warren lined up on the ramp that leads to the road/rail access point just by the footbridge. Mind you I have not been down the Warren compound for several weeks

Fri 30th Jan 2015 no "L" units visible on either JUBs but then high tide is 2.56 pm, & its only 2.9 mtrs so probably not a lot of room for the pontoons & tugs to operate Concrete being pumped this morning and they have placed short pieces of 6" soil pipe vertically on top of the already placed concrete Top right Checking out the anchors for next lot of "L" units when they arrive? that bit of black sticking out of the "L" units appears to be a 19 mm plastic foam sheet to form a break every 30 mtrs, in the concrete, I think the guy said but that seems a long space to me somehow
  8. Did see earlier, on Dawlish Beach webcam, at least 10 spare concrete pumping pipes being moved from by the blue Genny, along the wall & down the slope. Now, obviously as they started pumping concrete to the far end first, as they were the first placed, as they laid more, the pipe line had to be shortened, So I would venture to think that by adding pipes back on, they are going to 1 start placing "L" units at the other end or 2 put another layer of concrete over that, as that only appears to have been laid upto the top of the internal webs which are 15-18?? inches lower than the front face time will tell

View today from CoastGuard bridge Like ants on an anthill Soil pipe awaiting transport down to site And larger storm water? pipe Several drain pipes exit into the sea along this stretch of wall it was quite calm when I took these pics mid morning but now its gusty winds & sleet & hailstones BUT the sea via Dawlish Beach webcam appears to be reasonably calm

Only managed a couple of shots today as I was just passing through small barge this side larger one behind small barge with Hydraulic crane on deck + 3 portaloos with previously mentioned blue box/tank along side the larger barge behind has several "L" units on deck & you can see the gangway joining the two decks & it looks like part of the drilling gear on deck aswell
  11. So checking with Dawlish Beach Facebook page it looks like the first "L" unit was placed on the 16th Jan 2015 So thats 37 in 11 days well done boys but it looks like some nasty weather coming in to slow it up a bit cold, snowy & windy

At 14.42 today, right light conditions, on a big screen, you can just make out that there are now 37 "L" units in place on the wall EDIT;- thats 18 in 6 days if they are about 6ft span thats 222 feet or roughly 70 yds placed. Impressive! Crane lifting some gear, possibly the drilling rig. and from the Old lifeboat House The adapted container used to house/locate the drilling gear?? men at work in the first pic you can see a pile of spare concrete pumping pipes

Mon 26th JAN. 2015 3.28pm Southbound 125 photos taken from Rockstone foot bridge ( wheelchair parked at top of steps!! ) EDIT;- if you look under the crane hook, down on the slope you can see the concrete pumping pipe 6 'L units' visible on deck probably up to 9 at least with those out of sight with the marvels of zoom, that is the Dawlish Station in the background with the green TRAFFIC light on the crossing by the Viaduct in Dawlish town centre!! Shuttering visible on this end of infilled 'L units' Very difficult to judge with the zoom, but probably 20- 30 units in place??? in this shot at least one section of 5 has been filled to the top, possibly 2 sections and a scaffolding person bridge has been formed, sitting on top of the new surface the top of the 'L' units is that brown, almost furry looking "snake" to the left of the pic and completely off topic from the palette of the Great Artist took this at 5.03 in Exeter this pm
  14. The question is, was it post holes or where the coping/edging slabs had been pinned down between the joints. I noticed a similar thing in the summer when going along the walkway from the viaduct to the tunnels At first I thought Railings?, then I noticed the 'filled in holes' were not at uniform distances apart as regular fencing requires, but ONLY at the joints between each coping, which are of varying lengths by putting a pin down a hole it interlocks them, giving greater strength

Got a 7 day free trial on Dawlish Beach cam Saw much activity 9.45 - 10.20 pm going on lines not under possession as yet, as train passes barges & Tugs moving from mooring to JUBs But did not see the crane on JUB 1 moving so must have been loading gear onto JUB 2 cant see anything clearly just a load of lights, stationary, & moving two separate lights at sea one moves inshore followed by the other then both disappear in the direction of Teignmouth I guess that while the tide is right ( high tide is 22.21) and the weather favorable, they have to crack on Dont blame some of the people living along there for being irritable, with noise & light disturbing their sleep I once lived 100 yards from a plant hire maintenance depot right out in the country, lorries & plant would arrive off day jobs late evening & generators & welders etc would be working till the early morning in summer you could not open the windows!!
  16. I think it must have moved late yesterday someone on Dawlish Beach Cam said they heard a noise like whales in pain!!
  17. Looks like Seajack 3 ( JUB 2 ) has been moved further north towards Dawlish Warren direction view from NWR Cam disappeared out of view completely EDIT & from Dawlish Beach Cam looks like its gone a fair way, 80- 100 yds/mtrs
  18. Observation 21st Jan 2015 The small stone breakwater by Coastguard footbridge/Old Lifeboat House, continues to deteriorate has had repairs to the outer end sometime previously, reinforced with old rail but bits continue to go missing working shorewards

  20. Roger , No, I am sorry rereading my post, I realise it could be taken differently to what I intended When I headed it "CONJECTURE" I meant My conjecture, not yours, I have edited it accordingly Sorry again, no intention of ever putting anyone in their place

MY CONJECTURE Judging by past experience, just temporary for the workmens benefit & the residents ( less floodlights pouring into bedrooms for week/months on end) when the Dawlish Station footbridge roof was damaged early summer, the contractor installed custom bent stainless steel handrail around the curve of the walkway where they were working BUT when they finished they removed it While it would have been a good safety feature on that corner permanently, it has been heard, everything other than approved major works have to returned to "as it was" Also the mounting boards would not comply with regs and safety rails would have to be put in front to avoid pushchairs, wheel chairs, etc., causing damage to them, or ripping them off the wall leaving bare wire exposed EDIT;- photo of short lived railings from May 2014
  23. No that is to the south of Dawlish town station this is to the north before Redrock & Dawlish Warren

A regular visitor was spotted observing the latest activity probably glad that he/she was upwind of the drilling crew that was hard at work in the compound at Dawlish Warren was seen a stack of 8 or 12 steel reinforcing cages fabricated ready to be used inside the 'L' units down 150 awaiting signal to clear

The railway has also to contend with weather factors causing cliff erosion not serious, but ongoing is the soft sandstone getting saturated, then a frost like we have recently had causes spalling, expansion of the wet rock, causing lumps to 'detatch' from the cliff faces as seen here near the signal gantry between Rockstone & Redrock this slope was all green when I was last along here
