  1. thank you Jeff now I had found that on another forum but in a different way, BUT had forgotten Amnesia? alzheimers? Annoying!!
  2. Thank you Don so simple, told you I was not an IT person
  3. I do not know if its been mentioned on here But as I am back tracking this railway Tome I have noticed that when contributors have supplied a live link to the webcams when you click on them now they show the webcam updated to TODAYS picture NOT the one when loaded, so in effect pointless EDIT note;- NOT being critical here, just feed back to help increase the informative value of this thread I am not an IT person, but I do know that if you do a SCREENSHOT of the webcam it stays static & the viewer gets to see what you intended examples of this are on pages 43 44 &45 at least page 45 is as far as I have got!"! While being tecknical is there any way of navigating to a specific page in the 90 odd ones other than skipping 2 at a time
  4. Down main still in use by RRV at main breach site at 15.04 only just visible bottom left Possibly working on the seawall
  5. Yes remember that one, it used to blow a warning signal as it approached Exmouth, scrapped about 15-20 years ago?? PS memory is not what it was
  6. Of course Teignbridge DC have also been occupied at Dawlish warren sea wall exposed down to steel piling Groyne 1 got undermined by sand levels lowering and doing a severe lean Photos taken 1st March 2014 Diggers on the slipway at Dawlish Warren 5th March after they had been uprighted After playing sandcastles & adding 2 butressing supports still 5th march and by 10th March 2 more supports added making 4 in all the diggers must have been too wide to go through the gap at the top end of the groynes, so must have had to go round the bottom ends at low tide, do their work & get back again while they still could Compound in Warren car park More heavily galvanised steelwork yet to be placed
  7. from Sun afternoon Track machine at Dawlish Warren, Down Main, Colas? seen behind the Warren Leisure park kiddies rides and from the south DR73097? bit indistinct
  8. Overlooked these pics from Saturday morning 29th March Cramped conditions at Teignmouth Dawlish Station bridge, beach access unloading concrete for repairs to sea walkway towards Kennaway TunnelI I had parked in Marine Parade & the footpath was, rightly so, blocked with cones, so I had to do 3 road crossings to get back to this position, after watching & talking photos & chatting to the security guy he moved the cones so I could get back to Marine Parade Very thoughtful of him In fact all the operatives I have spoken to have been very helpful & polite of course wisdom requires not to be intrusive when they are in the middle of something ( thats when you take pics of course ) Off under the bridge
  9. Just heard Radio Devon reporting that Dawlish Station will be open on Friday MORNING and that a Dawlish gardeners group (sorry, didnt get exactly who) are involved in "sprucing up the Station"
  10. One assumes that Dawlish station will be fully accessible by Friday? at the moment the ramp access for prams, buggys, Granma's stroller, not to forget wheelchairs, is inside the NWR compound Just wondering as I am biased being in a wheelchair! On Dawlish Warren Beach yesterday ( with the detatchable tandem seat behind)
  11. Hi Rivercider, must have missed those pics when I started to read through ( havent read all 90 pages yet) I am in Dawlish frequently, but for some reason did not get to the seafront in January, or I would have seen that for myself, great photos of course theTown sea front is still closed off But Dawlish Warren was buzzing with people this afternoon NOTE Warren car park is still FREE on sundays till 17th April according to Teigbridge DC notices BUT do read the signs before you park!!!!!!!!!
  12. Hi Rob, living in the area for the last 40 years the beach level changes quite a lot, quite often the covered walk way on the town beach under Dawlish Station ( under the bridge & turn left) I have seen the sand/shingle almost level with that and at other times 8-10 feet lower & then generally returns to about 3-4 ft below the top No idea why
  13. Yes & infact I had expected this one to be off up the line BUT at 6.30 - 7pm it was on the Up line alongside the Bam Nuttall yard at Dawlish Warren having the track panels being unloaded so with the length of it, it must have gone halfway to Starcross & set back over the crossing at the Warren to come back down & start unloading from the front Headed by 66555 with 10 flats plus 22 ballast wagons
  14. Thanks Dagworth,, there are two of the Orange army & a digger at work in that pic!!
  15. Speaking to a long time local this morning he reckons it could be the old sewage pipe from the town, running parralel to the shore line to the sewage works at Dawlish Warren, superceding the older sewers going straight out to sea with no treatment, two of them, the one seen on the Dawlish Beach cam & one running under the north side of the main stone breakwater in the centre of Dawlish Town beach It in turn was made redundant when the modern system of pipes was run under the main A379 Dawlish Exeter road & out to the warren treatment facility BUT i still wonder whak IKB did to keep the sea at bay while the foundations were done, couldnt have had more than a few hours either side of low tide before they got swamped How far is it from Red Rock to Teignmouth Station? 6 or 7 miles at a guess
  16. Yes I saw that too, but wouldn't the utilities have had to disconnect the sewers, & especially the gas for safety and would the utility companies then have provided aternative supply? Gas & water could have come in from the back Sewers I cant quite see an alternative except using Chemical toilets perhaps those still living there ( some cannot return yet) are in effect 'camping out'
  17. Just got back from Teignmouth Station 66555 in the down platform road train of ballast wagons, forgot to count how many a train of flats, I think he said new track, (or was it new rail?) came down on this & when they cut up the old track it will be loaded on these A load of sleepers behind the ballast wagons And if you are concerned about sharp curves on a model layout the real railway is too, but THEY label their wagons!!!
  18. Thanks to all for the feed back to my questions the outer 'sea wall' I refered too can be discerned in this shot from Google Maps There is what looks like a large sewage outfall pipe bisecting it in a view from the Dawlish Beach Cam you can see what appears to be steel piling underpining this pipe when the sand level is low, so that has to be fairly modern there are also various 'stone' groines at right angles along its length but if you look carefully at google maps there is a definate structure most of the way from the old lifeboat house all the way to Red rock as we know it or Rockstone as it is on the maps but this is what it looks like from the Dawlish Beach cam http://www.dawlishbeach.com/live/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=18 Edit Sewage outfall in the middle there I would just love to get down there & photograph it myself but in a wheelchair I am limited as to access AND although I have a Shoprider wheelchair that I have equipped with twin rear wheels that will negotiate flat wet sand very well, groins & stone are beyond its capabilities
  19. Pictures of 20 wagon ballast train at Dawlish Warren on 25 th March Question ( I am NOT a rail expert, just a keen observer) there was just one ballast wagon with this auxilliary power unit on it, Purpose?
  20. According to the security guys I talked to last week, they reckoned that the beach will be closed for 12 months, "Building Site" they said There is of course a lot of work to do on the outside of sea walls & there is talk of possible outer sea defence works Now theres an interesting question for those that know. The old seawall remains visible on the Dawlish beach web cam for instance, about 40- 60 ft or maybe more out from the present railway seawall, was that part of Brunel's protective works while building the original railway infrastructure from a distance they appear to be 3-4 foot thick so were they originally much higher just for the building stage & then lowered because of pressure from local council afraid of the view being spoilt for tourists? Are there any existing archive documents of the original works?
  21. I obviously didnt hear correctly, blame my hearing aids
  22. Hi, New to this forum been following the events through various media since the first storm Feb 4th saw a Youtube upload from someones phone from the first train stopped by the waves just after lunch that day Today I just got back from Teignmouth, observing two RRVs loading gear for renewal of track tonight the guy I spoke to said ( If I remember correctly ) that they would be renewing 80 chains of one track & 60 chains of the other CW rail in Down track outside of Newton end of Teignmouth Station
