      Hi Bob,

The shop is give or take 10 miles from my front door, despite being in a different town with a nice country drive on the way!

I very much approve of a long weekend in Eastbourne, lived there for the first 18 years of my life and never really appreciated the advantages of living in a holiday town (although I suppose working as a porter in a hotel will do that to you!)

The shop is currently not open at the weekend, though we are working on a solution to that, and the website is not great, again this will be addressed in due course.

If you do come down this way, you'll have to pop round to Oak Hill Towers to have a play with the many layouts contained within, I'll even setup the exhibition layout!!

      Gary

PS. Many years ago I used to get all nice and smart in my Air Cadets uniform and sell programs at that airshow, it was always good fun!!

It's going really well thanks Jeff, so far I have managed to bring something home from the shop every day, that is what working in a model shop is about isn't it? Now if only I could have all these supplies and just as much free time as I had before starting!!

  3. The two high arc roof LBSCR vehicles seen here on this E. J. Bedford photo of the up Newhaven Boat train at Lewes post 1889 remain unidentified. I have found a photo of what is described as a Midland horsebox kit (photos below), but there seems to be some doubt about who the kit's maker is, or was. There seems to be a similarity (compare photos), given that the Bedford photo is taken at an acute angle and the arc of the Midland vehicle is not a smooth continuous arc and its planking is vertical, not horizontal as on the Brighton vans. I've never found a drawing or Diag. number or a more detailed photo of the Brighton van, but it looks about the same length as the vehicle in front which is either a Stroudley PLV or a Bullion van. Its function also remains mysterious, but they always seem to have gone around in pairs. Anyone know the Midland horsebox kit's maker, availability or ceased trading?

Linny Laser cutting is unfortunately shut down, with no idea on if it will ever return, if it does though, that is a very nice kit, I built one at the weekend!

Although even if you could get the kit, it wouldn't get you any closer to an LBSC Grande Vitesse van

Stroudley had a few different GV vans, some rated for passenger, and some goods, again in this LBSC Carriages Vol 2 is your friend, it's all in there, it was also discussed in the Brighton Circle email group last April.

Those are Stroudley 10T Grande Vitesse vans, I don't know of any drawings for them, I attach a photo showing one in better detail that the photos you have, there is detail about them including photos in LBSCR Carriages Vol 2 page 140 - 142

  7. An unidentified Billinton B4 heading the Brighton Pullman Ltd train in what is probably Bronze green/ red oxide roof and ornate gilded livery with open verandah Pullman cars. It has 7 full length cars and a Pup at the front. The head code on the buffer beam indicates its route is via the Quarry Line, opened in 1900.  I thought at first it was the Southern Belle, having 7 cars, but the Southern Belle didn't begin until November 1908  and its livery was Cream and Umber with white roofs, vestibules instead of open verandahs and ran on 6 wheel bogies, not 4.  A B4 was unlikely to still be in Stroudley IEG that late.  My Inspector Clouseau side came to the conclusion that the photo must have been taken sometime between summer 1900 and late summer 1908 somewhere between Norbury and Haywards Heath.  Can anyone hazard a guess at the name of this service and whether it ran from Victoria or London Bridge.

I would expect it's the "Pullman Limited" which originally started in 1881, and by 1898 ran 7 days a week with 6 or more carriages conveying all 3 classes. It was a Victoria - Brighton service, and a direct precursor of the Southern Belle

  13. Getting rid of my sons old chest of drawers today. Is it bad that I'm looking at them and wondering about turning them into baseboards??

That is a great idea! 4 drawers so that's not far off 8ft length!

I definitely dom't have room for that. Any potential layout would need to be able to be put away

You all make very good points! (including Boris!!) the extra storage space would be good if I could find somewhere for it. THe problem with a layout on top of that is it is only 24" x 18" which in 4mm is not a lot!
