I was assistant shipping and port manager, at weymouth, when john Lucking, was a customs officer. When i started at weymouth the train travelled from the town to the quay, behind a man walking with a flag. That was subsequently changed to a police car, as most days, they were called out anyway, to move parked cars. The boat train was a booked connection, with the departing Channel island ferry, at 13.30. then waited for the incoming ferry at 15.00. I was the guy who sailed the ferry, before the boat train arrived, one day, as, by this time it was a car ferry also, and only had space for 50 people due to unprecedented passenger numbers in boarding cars. Remember the bad tempers well. john
