  1. Part of the fun is experimenting on what sounds good for you, its the same as choosing speakers for the job............ I use to use some years back a large 28mm speaker fitted under the fan [blu tak sealed] with all my Zimo 37's - what is now called the tortured path method [is this a Paul Chetter term... ] Those type 3 sure did growl! Finally moved on to Alan Butcher bass reflex in the tanks - a lot more work to fit - but wow do those 37's do sound deeper.........
  2. You can use the fuel tanks as a sound chamber, it would work as long as it is a sealed unit and nothing escapes up into the motor area.
  3. If it is a V3.5 RTR model - forget the blu tak enclosure on the chassis, fit a bass reflex 100 ohm speaker into the fuel tanks. It will go alot louder and will add bass your 37 will growl! - This is the only way to improve the RTR V3.5 model for increase loudness If its a V4 chip get youself the Alan Butcher speaker fitted into the fuel tanks - this is a serious growl on a 37!
  4. The only answer to this is fitting a 100 ohm bass reflex speaker into the fuel tanks - if its a v3.5 chip. Or a Alan Butcher bass speaker into the tanks if its a V4.0 chip - either way a complete strip down is required, it is easy but certainly well worth it. Sealing the speaker will give you a slight improvement in sound - but nowhere near to fitting either of the above speakers - especially the AB speaker!
  5. This video has shown how this latest 'Paul Chetter Zimo' has taken sound chips to another level......... As this is a Rail Exclusive special DS fitted loco, why don't they do a BR Blue version? Now that would be something.
  6. Oh Yes we thrash! So you can toggle F6 to rev the 37 from coasting as long as the loco is moving above the threshold value for the thrash sound. Works a treat!
  7. This is the lastest enhanced Class 37 multi drive on a Zimo sound chip. It shows the 37 coasting, then a bit of instant full thrash, the thrash starts automatically and is switched back to coasting via pressing F6 - at any speed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9ycYJLIQDU&feature=youtu.be

  11. Hi,

I have 37254 [the last one released] - its the same set up as the latest model.

I have tweaked all my CV's so it runs and coast very well.

PM me if you wish to have these settings / I will be able to pm you tonight with them.

Also please remember if you press F5 notching a couple of times - you have to press F6 [notching off the same amount of times.

  13. Rich,

I can recommend DCC supplies for your Lenz upgrade, but it depends how close you are to them.

Any problems or further info required, let me know and I will try to help.

  15. Paul,

Is this the Class 26 that Digitrains are offering onto Zimo chips.

As I have a spare 26, could do with a Zimo chip for it plus decent speaker.

    Are you willing to sell?

    Phil

  16. Paul,

I could do with picking your brains regarding a couple of things with my Zimo Digitrainns 37 and 25.I know there will be further info in my April edtion of Hornby - but not sure I can wait that long!

You seem a hard fellow to get hold of.

  17. Hi Paul,

My layout is a tail chaser, the 37'7 have got capacitors fitted for better slow moving, but just need to see if I can have them thrash earlier.

The sound on the Digitrians is extremely good as are the functions.Just need more practice/advice on the Zimo. If you are Paul Chetter I have been reading your articles on the Vitrains 37 - I could do with a heads up before Aprils ...

  18. Hi Paul, - class 37

    Are you Paul [Hornby Paul],

If so can you throw some light onto tweaking CV3,CV5 and CV6 to get more thrash earlier, Iam trying all sorts of numbers from CV5 225 downwards and CV6 from 125 downwards. As Iuse a Lenz st100 it takes forever to try ajustments.

Using speedstep 128 on my Lenz.

I did try to leave CV5 and CV6 set to 1 [default setting].

  19. Either the 23mm or 40x20 both enclosed with blu'tak for an enclosure sat on the chassis and then the bass reflex in the tanks but leave your tanks without a base cover so the sound flows unhinded. Hear the 37 growl!
  20. http://www.dccsupplies.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=673 You need to cut away the middle section of the Tanks so you only have the two outside walls of the tanks left in place. I glue my reflex in place uncovered, just make sure your track is clean, no track pins laid about, otherwise you will have to lift the loco and remove the pins. Let your ears decide. [ don't forget you need to tweak your CV's to get the best of the loco on your own layout, everybodies layout is different.]
  21. You can change a couple of CV's and have notching on your 37, but before you go down that route, try this.... CV5 to 20 and CV6 to 10,and have a play , sorry test and either increase or decrease CV5 further, - what ever you change CV5 to - change CV6 to half of CV5's value
  22. Just buy yourself a Bass reflex speaker from DCC supplies - http://www.dccsupplies.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=673 fit it in the tanks and listen to the 37 growl. Totally agree with the above regarding x2 23mm in the tanks, just makes increases in the volume, once had all my 37's this way, until a tried the reflex on the tanks and leave either the original 23mm speaker on the chassis or a 40 x 20 retangle speaker on the chassis. Let your ears be the test!
  23. Hi Paul,

I have just purchased a class 20 from Digitrains fitted with a Zimo sound chip.

What CV's will I might need to look at tweaking?

As you know I only have experience of Loksound chips, so I have no idea what CV controls what on the Zimo chip?

    Many Thanks

    C.J

  24. Hi Paul,

    RE. A video of a 37.

Will it be a Digitrains 370 unrefurbished loco?

Can you drive it and go through the functions - I noticed Digitrains lists 12 functions on their web site.

I have made enquires regarding the 37 and class 20 with Digitrains.

    many thanks

    Regards

    Cassey Jones
