  1. Hornby 08 with Howes sound chip and 23mm speaker fitted into the cab, sounds much better than the original Hornby speaker fitted to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcLgQEWwhmk
  2. I used a bass reflex speaker with it and it still sounded dreadful, muffled almost as though it was recorded with too much volume, as the sound on all functions was distorted - Having said that, I suppose if I was not use to the quality of Howes and SWD sound files I may have thought it was good! Mine is now back from Howes and the difference is remarkable!
  3. I had a SWD class 31 chip re programmed by Keytes, to hear what the quality was like. Similiar to Mr Soundguy sound files - quality wise! Its now at Howes for their sound files................ You have been warned!
  4. I would have to agree with you regarding the class 20 and 47, Howes way better. SWD rule the roost though with their class 37's and 25's. Here's my link to vids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOlhann1T30 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zSSNoO-q0M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7FmbhBZWCo
  5. No, I have already tried Olivias DS chips and barge pole and touch spring to mind. Already have 08 20 24 25 26 31 33 37 40 45 47 50 and 55 DS chips and can whole heartly recommend Howes and SWD sound chips!
  6. Are all Olivias sound chip dodgy then? I purchased a class 33, it was dreadful, I had to have it re programmed with the Howes version.. much better. It seems Olivias sound files are supplied by different people? Perhaps this is why there are always problems with the DS chips they sell! The 26 in that video differently sounds like the Howes 25?
  7. Yes, the 24 and 26 should sound similiar and the 25 and 27 should sound similiar.
  8. Here's a few of my videos only taken using a vivitar digital camera though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7FmbhBZWCo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSyyw5avDDc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50NTPP9Afic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSsF_pbX1O0
  9. This is one of the reasons of being on these forums,we can debate the merits of whatever,- I totally agree regarding sound being subjective. I like most on here like to alter things, perhaps try changing speaker set ups, CV values etc etc. After all we are all trying to get the best from our layouts and long may it continue! Nothing wrong in a good debate it gets people challangeing what the norm might be.
  10. Pieman, A large quality speaker will always output more, low frequencies than a small quality one - its not science but fact. Now whether you appreciate the sound thats another matter.
  11. The laws of physics dictates that a larger coned speaker will always sound better than a small cone speaker, a long as it is wired correctly. This is why modellers are finding that fitting of a refex bass speaker makes an improvement over the standard 23 mm round that comes fitted to ESU chips.
  12. No its too tinny! You need the 37's to Growl!
  13. I have a SWD mk 4 with that set up as well, and i still prefer the reflex in the tanks it just sounds more natural, like the real thing, although my layout room only has a 6' 3'' ceiling -maybe that has something to do with it. Large rooms and sound does get lost, unless your stood over the loco.
  14. Or even better a DCC Supplies bass reflex in the tanks, the notes just go a little lower. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSsF_pbX1O0 And another video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7FmbhBZWCo
