  1. Dave, not sure if you have done this or covered it elsewhere and my apologies if you have, Would it be worth sending an email to those who WILL NOT be receiving refunds ? (Where funds were used to pay current costs) and then post in here to say those who haven't received this email or a refund yet, are still being processed. . . Yeah I Know more work for you lol but it might help clarify for those still waiting
  2. Confused.com aren't the newspapers and magazines in the supermarkets actually on a NEWSTAND ? Just one that happens to be positioned IN a supermarket ? Wether its Whs Tescos Sainsburys or your local newsagent they are displayed the same way. As to digital Vs printed, If you look back at the first quite crude ebook readers (I still have one of the first Sony editions which surprisingly still works) compared to today's tablets they are worlds apart and still evolving. I'm no youngster but I've embraced the new tec and at this moment I'm reading and replying to this topic on RMweb, checking whats happening on another forum I help out on, catching up on today's news, tracking some parcels and sorting an array of digital music, books, magazines and films that we want for a trip we are taking, all on a 7" tablet. And for those who say " but what if you run out of power ?" I use a power bank that can keep me topped up for days without access to a power socket. For me digital is definately the future and I can fully understand the Team investing time and effort in developing this platform. As to the future ? I wonder if a way forward will be using cloud storage with online access. A lot of software is now available online rather than sent out on disc, Some instead of being installed on your machine you log in and use it via the web. Maybe in the future we will simply buy a subscription that allows us to view this months BRM via cloud storage, or this years editions of BRM or even the full digital Archive of BRM depending how much you pay . I imagine the sofware is already out there to allow the user to view the chosen content on his device via an app that regularly checks that the user has an active subscription for that content. Really interesting topic !
  3. Not attacking the magazine Phil just being a realist. When I said generating revenue I meant enough to help cover costs rather than operating at a loss. As long as it can be run almost cost neutral it is a good way of promoting BRM and warners. Certainly not trying to bite the hand that feeds !
  4. Yup Andy completely missed that offer !
  5. A few points. Although RMWeb is free at the point of use I'm not sure that Warner provide it to us out of the goodness of their hearts, A little thing called Advertising is also involved. If it wasn't generating revenue I'm sure it would soon be dropped ! As for the price of the BRM magazine, unfortunately in this digital age I think the cost of this and most other printed versions is only going to continue climbing, As more people go digital the cost of the printed version will be spread over a dwindling number of regular subscribers and casual shop browsers, In the beginning printed subsidised digital, but at some point if not already, this will reverse and digital will be subsidising a dwindling number of printed sales. We are seeing this in both printed and digital books and even hard copy vs digital software packages. Also anyone wanting to can easily purchase digital back issues of BRM at the click of a button to read virtually immediately, although paying the full £3.99 cover price which is a bit disappointing. . What guys no half price offer on previous issues to boost sales of them ? Or buy a whole year at a discounted price ? Your missing a trick there guys. Must admit though, £5.50 for printed vs £3.99 digital (drops to only £2.31 with annual subscription) I'll be going digital
  6. Update - Parcels delivered to neighbour who apologised and said he will update his 'safe place' info to ask that parcels be launched from the van window on to HIS drive rather than just any drive within a 2 mile radius
  7. We live at 18 C***********ts (bins at entrance to drive clearly marked in white paint to aid struggling delivery drivers) across a field is 18 M*****************on, another country lane. Quite often we get parcels for each other , almost always delivered by hermies. This morning took dog out to find 2 parcels dumped at the entrance to our drive, on the side of the lane, addressed to No 4 M*************on. Later when I re deliver them I must ask just where their specified safe place is !. Wonderful hermies
  8. One other thing worth mentioning with the Z21 system is if you are operating with younger members, you can load JUST the locos on to their device that you want them to control, so that is the ONLY ones they can move, and by having the same loco open in a throttle on your device you can instantly take control of it or cut power to the whole layout etc if they get in trouble, also being able to subtly 'help' younger members to control their loco via your throttle. And if more friends visit ? Find an old apple or android device, load the app load on loco info and away they go as well. A very versatile system.
  9. +1 for the black Z21. Does all I want, will work with either apple or Android AND jmri/ Decoder pro. Easy to set up and operate. The good thing for me is that its App based so as they develop new features the Apps get auto updated when you connect your phone / tablet or whu to the internet and then when you connect to the Z2 1 box you can update it with any new software that has been released for it as well. Been meaning to ask how you guys running NCE keep its software up to date ? Anyway can definately recommend the Z21
  10. Thought I had clicked on the wrong link ! I thought I was reading a thread where Dave had simply asked for Web site help but yet again see posts wondering when the car crash is going to happen ? Those who say they wish Dave all the best 'but I'm not ordering' could maybe leave it alone now ? The negativity is getting boring. I can see why Dave would need to be 'Juggling so many balls' at once, He has to put out an idea, wait to see if there is enough interest, start and run through a long and involved design process, get tooling done, get manufacturing slots booked and product made, all the time running a marketing campaign, dealing with any problems that crop up and trying to keep multiple project customer streams happy . In that type of business there will always be delays, changes and unforseen problems as you run through a very long and convoluted process so yes you need to be thinking well ahead and be progressing multiple streams if you want to have any sort of a business. Its a world away from super detailing/ weathering and selling one unit (super job by the way !) Where if you have a problem you can set it aside and carry on with the dozens of other projects you have on the work bench to ensure a steady income stream. And yes, we have all now read about every single event, problem, job that Dave hasn't done, across just about every single topic that he posts in. I'm surprised he has't thrown his hands in the air, said s@% it and walked away. Can we PLEASE give it a rest now ?
  11. You know guys I've been reading a lot of NEGATIVE posting on this forum lately (APT anyone ?) And thought this topic was going the same way. . But that last half a dozen posts have given me a POSITIVE jolt thanks guys
  12. The Ipad knows which way up you held it when you took the photo and will display the photo right side up regardless, but this information isnt included in the picture info when you upload it so the forum will display it the way up the lenz was when the picture was ACTUALLY taken. So if the Camera lenz is upside down, thats the way it will display. To cure it, take a picture on the tablet ( note where the lenz is) upload and see if it is upside down, If so rotate Ipad through 180 degrees and take another, upload and check it is right side up and in future ALWAYS hold the tablet this way up when taking photos. Note if you try portrate, the photos will be on thier side ! Unfortunately Apple dont make it easy to identify which way up the photo was taken and not easy find how to rotate them either Sorry Chubber back over to your problem mate and on that one. . No idea
  13. Can I suggest making yourself a simple lamp tester ? A bulb and holder two crocodile clips, wire and a battery (I actually adapted an old bycicle lamp) Disconnect any power to the track and clip your lamp tester to the track with the crocodile clips. If it lights up you have a short. Now you can do as suggested, Isolate a section of track then clip on your lamp tester and if it lights up start disconnecting wires till it goes out (you may have more than one fault in a section so keep going till the light goes out) once the light goes out find out what was wrong with the last wire you disconnected, sort it and carry on 're connecting wires till you get a light again, rince and repeat You may then find a common cause of the fault, pointing you where to look for more old school I know but it saves you connecting and disconnecting power supplies and constantly trying to make contact with multimeter probes to find your fault. It also comes in handy as you add in more sections of track wiring, lighting up straight away if you cross a wire, rather than you trying to find multiple faults later on Hope this helps Cheers Matt
  14. As kids we hated it for its proper use but wrap it round a comb and it made a great kazoo!
  15. Well you have started a discussion and then asked two questions, in the help and questions so must admit I totally agree with you ! As this will probably turn into a full blown discussion on the pros and cons of merging, I think merging would be sensible don't you ? Class discuss (oh and as you didn't ask a specific question about DCC should't this be under discussions ? Ok my brain hurts
  16. Great to catch up with Granby in all it's Grimy glory John. It's always been one of those 'Inspiration' layouts with so much detail and so much going on, every time you look you see something new and spot another little cameo you have missed before. Keep up the good work ! cheers Matt C
