  1. I think those hoping for more die cast special might be in luck. The new Engine Shed blog includes the line

"The reintroduction of the Hornby Dublo brand led by the supreme diecast bodied ‘Duchess of Atholl’ raised the bar in terms of model locomotive quality."

Reintroduction of a brand and the use of 'led by' that seems to suggest more to come.

Ah - the Scenecraft stuff is prebuilt rather than kit isn't it? Probably why I didn't spot it when I was looking for something I could kit bash for Loch Tay/Killin.

As you say the scenecraft items are prebuilt. I actually think that building though is the nearest I've seen to loch Tay in model form and even it would need some quite major surgery. I'm planning to make this a fictional Scottish branch line so I thought it would be a reasonable building to use with a few touches.

Shunter looks good from the distant view :). What's the station building,? I struggled to find simple, small sloped roof station kits.

I'm very impressed with the shunter, it's a lovely runner and looks really good.

The station building is actually just the Bachmann Scenecraft Wooden Waiting Room 44-136. I've just repainted it from Red timber detail to a very dark brown and added a cut down Wills chimney.

  4. Here we go again, following the two dioramas this time a micro layout to fit the scenic section in a 22l box file.

So a simple station and siding is now planned, baseboards measure and cut yesterday, track work sorted and wired today and tested using the newly arrived Silver Fox No. 11150, a lovely little diesel shunter. To fit it in the 70ish cm scenic section (I need about 5cm some space for the point levers and lighting switches) it'll be a run in, set back, and run round completed using a traveser/fiddle yard. The station will be for 1 coach + van + Std tank/Ivatt 2 2-6-0.

    Since my wallet is still waiting to be battered by 2020's announcements, I only hope for five things in the 2021 catalogue;

    LNER Mk.4's

    91110

    91101

    6233

    46203

    Cheers,

      60800

I'm surprised we haven't yet seen the new Princess Coronation as 6233 in full LMS with deflectors as it currently is so I expect this at some point.

Dare I hope for one of the following LNER K4, LNER K2/2 or LNER D40! I do think it'll be the LMS year with LNER Pacifics still to come from 2020, the GWR prairie not long out and Southern having done well from Hornby in recent years. The LMS feels like the one Hornby have touched less and might visit this time around.

A couple of folorn hopes from me...both classes of only 10 locos and relatively unloved by many?

Steam: Hawksworth GW 15xx Class pannier tank.

Electro-Diesel: BR Class 74, possibly utilizing the recent class 71 tooling as a start...surely it has more use than merely helping kill DJM off?

Not forlorn with regards to the 15xx, Rapidotrains UK announced those on Tuesday for release in 2022.

  7. Thinking what may be produced we've had new 0-6-0 tender locos from Hornby from the SR and LNER regions in the last few years I don't recall an LMS one. Could this be the LMS's year for one and we might see an ex L&Y Class 25 or 27. There's preserved of each to measure and ornate lined L&Y for an impact 'wow' livery along side LMS and BR liveries.

I must say that there's a lot of requests from the USATC S160. I always saw it in polls but I don't recall it being such a highly requested item (I may be wrong here). But yes this year every other post on rmweb, YouTube, Facebook and so on is about a USATC S160.

I wonder if Hornby will actually do one. Seems more like a Bachmann thing.

Assuming a gestation period of 3 years for a model and Hornby seem to announce about 1 year from release I've just looked at the 2018 Wishlist poll result and in the top 50 the top 3 were...

Number 1 - Manor (announced by Dapol)

Number 2 - BR Standard 2 (announced by Hornby)

    Number 3 - USATC S160...

So it has been quite high in the polls and maybe it might find it's way in or we could have a duplication on Manors or neither!

And having just looked at the 2019 poll results it was the same top 3 with the S160 at number 1 and in the 2016 survey it was 6th (no survey in 2017). So it has been there or thereabouts

    Amazing, inspirational stuff!!

Can I ask, did you scratch build the hopper, or is it available as a kit?

    thanks!

    Thankyou very much.

The hopper is the Peco Coaling tower kit built straight from the box except for using a different ladder as the one in the kit didn't fit in the space available. Then just painted and weathered.

  10. Nice prototype location to use this, will be nice to watch this develop.

I have lots of Scottish railway books but only recently came across this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Killin-Branch-Personal-Recollection/dp/1899246231, there's none from the period you're interested in but there are a small number from the 1930s which may offer some help.

You've probably already come across this but incase not this link might have one or two images of use https://www.crassoc.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=291

Very nice Karl, the locos look great in the daylight. You can’t beat a natural back scene.:good:

Thanks! I do my own renumbering but the weathering on the engines themselves is GrimyTimes. I have done the buildings but haven't got the confidence that I won't ruin an engine in attempting weathering myself and Grimytimes do a great job, which I think is shown in real daylight.
