Thanks for the reply, I'll have a look at that rebuild thread! I think my box file overall is slightly longer but I've just measured the rail length and to my surprise my sidings are actually shorter than yours by 1.5cm! They're only 320mm long. I do like the higher than wide look of this type of model to just make it very imposing and claustrophobic, I think they are very effective a recreating the feel of this type of place.

I think this will have an even more 'cramped' feeling than mine, but it just works for these industrial settings! Have you modified that 04? It's a neat job.

Hi Craig, There was a H1 in LBSC umber in the first release as 'La France', item 31-910. This still seems to be available on the web at a few shops, I have one and it's stunning so would recommend it! Karl

I'm going to have a think over the next few days, I was planning a colliery but I measured it up and can't make it work with a pit head gear so that might have to wait until I have some more room. Maybe a shed scene or a country Branchline terminus but the latter may be better for a really useful box layout. At least there's plenty of time and this weekends Virtual exhibition might provide some inspiration, I do think box files lend themselves to industrial and cramped scenes though so it may be something along those lines again!

At risk of boring people a few more photos. Working at home allowed me to exploit the sunshine this morning for a quick photo call and then this lunchtime the post brought the chains I've been waiting for for under the hoods.

They'll be good to see! It certainly does look like it's going to be a long winter ahead and with no ability to go anywhere I think there's going to be lots of modelling done. At least it allows you some escapism! I was fortunate to make two trips to photograph the Jacobite when we could get around! Please let us see how you're model develops! I've nowhere for a large layout currently so already thinking of the next box file...

Good evening Chris! Thankyou very much! The larger dock layout (larger only because the wharf is a box file and the dock is 80x40cm) is sadly not very accessible at the moment. But I've a few other photos here from earlier in the year. It'd be great to see photos of yours when you're done with it! It's strange that I take photos of steam around the country and try to maximise the landscape but in modelling I seem to focus on cramped industrial! Kind regards Karl

Thankyou very much Kevin that is very kind. I must confess though that the crane is straight out of a Bachmann scene craft box! I had one to build but I decided it wouldn't look right so I bought that instead. One from today with the Canal boat out of the way so that the 'water' can dry with two Scottish engines. I thought I'd follow Graham Muz and Canute Road Quay in making it more or less regionless so that I could run engines from any region on it.

Good evening everyone, Inspired by the models in the micros and box file thread and with a week off work I decided to have a go at a small wharf side box file layout and thought I'd share my efforts here. So this is 'Lockdown Wharf'. The warehouse are from the excellent JSM models, the boat is a very good Langley kit with a scencraft crane and wills sheets used for the canal banking and the walls. The bridge parapets are from the 'Greenwood laser' range and whilst a fine kit I think may be a bit big on this. The big Bagnall in the background is one of my 6 or 7 models from the Hardy range. I don't often comment on the forum but have read this thread with great interest. On the Terriers I had three from the first release and all three were sent back with curved running plates and one had other build issues such as detached brake shoes, these were replaced by Rails and sadly the three replacements were all returned with bent running plates. These models covered BR, LBSC and KESR guises. This week I received my 'Boxhill' but this model had a very loose buffer and a bent running plate. So that is 7 models that I have returned. The reason I wanted to comment really is to just say that in all of this Rails have been courteous, understanding and nothing but helpful and I thought in all of the comments on the models it was worth just praising the retailer in what must be a frustrating period for them with what appears to be a number of models being returned for refunds.

Good evening all, I just thought I'd comment on these kits having just built 3 of the low relief warehouse ends. If anyone is thinking of having a go then I encourage anyone to! I've never used laser cut wood before and I have to say I was very impressed with the quality and detail of these. Also after cutting out these really just clipped together, they were a pleasure to build. In fact the highest compliment I can give is I originally bought just two and was so impressed I changed my plans to include the third! I've attached a photo of my current lockdown project which they are being used on but they really warrant using on a larger layout. They are excellent! (Photo only to show how they look after assembly and painting without any guttering etc. and the painting is all down to me so don't judge the kits on that).

Thanks Nick, it is a you suspect IOW that is my thinking. I feared the lack of named tanks might make transfers unlikely, particularly as there won't be a standard size for them either,

Good afternoon everyone, I'm hoping that someone may be able to help me out. I'm planning to rename some of the Hornby Terriers in SR olive green livery but I am struggling to find anywhere I can get transfer for the white nameplate surrounds as I intend changing to longer names so the printed one won't be log enough. I've checked all the usual suspects for transfers but can't find any. Has anyone found any anywhere else? Thanks Karl

Gauging for the archway and first lighting test. In the gauging a J94 did fit through the arch, just, but the track moved about 1mm when tacking down and now anything larger than the Pecketts (or one of the many Hardy's Hobbies engines I now have) clip the back door in the archway and don't fit through.

I can add a few others up. The plan originally came from wanting to build a Clyde Puffer and having somewhere to display it along with a lot of small pecketts/sentinels etc. So I fancied having a go at something which featured a few things I wanted which were... - The puffer - Rails under an overhead crane - a run round loop - Rails through cobbles. So from that rough 'wish list' it just grew organically.

Thankyou very much. I didn't really document the build but have a few phone photos taken that show some stages. Below are three showing the original board getting marked up with the original idea which was changed a few times during the phase shown in the second photo. The 3rd one shows the revised plan with an added track running over a sheet of paper cut to the size of the Bachmann gatehouse as I just fancied having a model running through that like you see in lots of industrial settings.

Hi Sean, whilst it doesn't directly answer your question as it's either side of your period this photo here shows the one at Helmsdale as White and blue in 1972 https://andrewstransport.smugmug.com/LesTindalls1970sBritishtrains/Orcadian-railtour-1972/i-KPTPfGR and in David Price's 'Kyle of Lochalsh and the Far North Lines' book there is a photo of a large logo blue 37 passing the same box in 1988 and it's white and blue in that too.

Good afternoon, I have been looking on the forum for many years but not much of a contributor but have over the last year built a small quayside layout using largely ready to plant buildings with a few kits thrown in as well. Just thought I'd share a few photos of it, it's not perfect by far but has been an interesting build and even though it measures less than 1m by 50cm. And thank you to all those people on here who unknowingly inspired me to have a go at this. I hope everyone is well!
