  1. So looking at the DE2 and other EE export loco's, why is it that the majority seem to have a pair of large cab windows whilst the domestic machines had 3 smaller ones? Something to do with the BR design panel?
  2. Looking at that pic, I think we've all overlooked the obvious answer.
  3. Looks like a class 23 body with different cab windows.
  4. I experimented with a similar idea based on Holborn viaduct earlier on in this thread, the only thing I would mention is the tight radius of the single slip if working with Peco 00 track. It is a great basis for a minories style layout especially if you can represent Ludgate hill as a scenic break. A vertical "train stacker" would be a great space saver, Iirc there is one made by a US company.
  5. This pic put's things into perspective, Merehead's SW1001 shunter. There is also one at Whatley.
  6. I think I've posted this one before, English Electric built the L class electrics for Australia but what if they had found use over here?
  7. When I was in my late teens I had a 218 sld turbo as a cheap runaround, white with grey plastic everywhere it looked the blandest thing on the road. However on discovering the engine was actually a Peugeot lump I spent a weekend playing about with the fuel pump and a bodging a turbo from an old 605 on to it. It still looked terrible, but the way it used fly past the local boy racers was priceless.
  8. Looks much better, I love the way the overpass frames the view of the layout.
  9. I think the SD90's have all been rebuilt now. The loco's in that vid look like GE units.
  10. The size of the locomotives is one thing, but the trains they pull can be difficult to grasp till you see one in full...
  11. Might not be to everyone's tastes this one, but here's a quick pic of my modified Benz.
  12. The engine in a 56 which is an evolution of the 16cvst, can be seen lifted out at around the 10 min mark in this vid complete with the alternator. I'll bet that combo is past 30t.
  13. Was this because of older wagon design strength? It seems to have been dropped by the late 70's.
  14. If you want to run an F unit together with newer units look no further than the Penn Central, F7's would regularly be part of multi unit lashups with other locos. Here's a couple good pics: https://www.railpictures.net/photo/714568/ https://donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/dr0400/pc1482.jpg http://www.canadasouthern.com/caso/images/pc-2383.jpg https://i.pinimg.com/originals/0e/79/0d/0e790d47cfe3e9ad69f5236a325b0031.jpg
  15. If you can wait till the lockdown is lifted take the body shell down to a games workshop store, Citadel paints have a big range of acrylic colors and washes you will find a match from. They are mostly small pots, but the popular colors are also available in rattle cans.
  16. Are you looking for rattle cans or brush paint?
  17. A good idea in a crisis. We've not driven Loco's down the road like that over here, but we have used them as generators at power stations a few times.
  18. Thanks for the link, that website is quite a rabbit hole.
  19. Have a look around Here on google street view.
  20. Hi all, I've recently taken an interest in the LIRR commuter trains of a few years ago. Seems like a great subject for a small layout with their short push pull trains, a gp38 and an old FA unit sandwiching a few coaches. Has anyone here modelled these services? Cheers.
  21. Yep, that's the pic I tried to link to.
  22. There were also wagon turntables in the sheds nearest the running lines. Here is a link to one of the trains passing Stamford brook, a nice manageable size.
  23. Another station worth mentioning is High street Kensington. It had 2 through platforms, 2 terminating platforms, and a substantial coal/goods yard accessed via a double kick back from platform 4. Depending on the period it also had a overall roof, later just platform canopy's. There was also what appears to be a loco siding behind platform 1 for a time. Passenger stock was a little limited, but there were regular short coal trains from the midland region. It has quite a few things in common with minories, though just not the track plan.
