  1. That's what I thought, I was surprised I got it at that price. I was looking to see if anyone made a 2ft x 8ft baseboard kit so I could join two together, but this will work just as well. Most importantly is that they are a good solid base for me to build the upper level onto, which makes my life a lot easier.
  2. So I wasn't planning on starting this layout yet, but a lucky bid on Ebay has won me this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Model-Railway-Solutions-Premium-Birch-Ply-Baseboard-/133469343058?ul_noapp=true&nma=true&si=QGPRpaKywhnJl8BpsAV1UWI6hNA%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 That's the baseboards off to a good start then, and with the track I already have that should be enough. Watch this space....
  3. It was another member he sent the empty box to, I think he did resolve it with customer services but the feedback wasn't removed. I just mentioned it to him as he hadn't noticed it was there.
  4. I just had a short email conversation with another member who this guy did a similar thing to: Claimed the item was broken, and sent back an empty box! I have pointed him in the direction of customer services to get the bad feedback removed from his account. But it shows that my experience with him wasn't a one off.
  5. Never ever pay compensation or a partial refund to anyone who try's that sort of thing, If they have a problem get them to return the item for a full refund. Bad or unfair feedback can always be challenged and removed so dont be held to ransom over it.
  6. So I have now closed the ebay case for no payment from this guy and had my fee's refunded. It seems he has no intention of paying for anything as I now count 10 different feedback claims of this on his profile. https://www.ebay.co.uk/fdbk/feedback_profile/sobe4612?filter=feedback_page:All
  7. Thanks for the warning, I've banned him as well.
  8. I found this excellent page about the W&C 1940 stock, which includes the above pic. Interesting reading. https://www.bloodandcustard.com/SR-WC.html
  9. Many thanks for that, answers alot of questions. I could see double yellow no parking lines in some of the pics so guessed there was road access somehow. Till you said about them I hadn't even noticed the capstans!
  10. A video showing the hoist in action: https://videos.files.wordpress.com/5VK6zzBu/1940-stock-southern-films.mp4 And I found this pic showing things from the office block. Now there is a unusual compact shunting layout if ever I want one...
  11. That's the problem Ebay dont follow it up. They will issue him a non payment strike, but that is all. they no longer ban people for it either.
  12. Looking at the concept pics for the AT400, it is certainly a sleek looking design. For some reason the front of the Velaro sets in use on eurostar still looks odd to me.
  13. Does that mean we are finally going to see 140mph running on the ECML?
  14. Obviously there will be new trains for the line, but if money is an issue they could be built at a later date. My thinking was that the 91's are surplus and could be put to use if needed. The 390 or 801 has no advantage over them as the design speed is the same, there was talk about using a 390 to try for the record but it never happened.
  15. So I thought I would raise the question with Ebay as to why nothing is being done about this guy, i posted a question in Ebays own community and got the result I was expecting. They were more concerned that I had left "false positive feedback" than the fact the guy keeps spam buying items. Those of you that remember my thread about "trainbay" will know that I called him a thief in the feedback section, one of the replies even tried to say that was lible. What a joke! So the answer seems to be that Ebay will do nothing about people like this, but get really upset about feedback.
  16. If I were you I'd relist the item now, and block him from bidding. It takes a minimum of 5 days to go through the process of reporting him.
  17. Oops, 300kph is what I should of said. I dont think it's too greater stretch to see a mk4 at 200mph. A short set managed 161mph back in the late 80's on normal track without too much bother, with the advance in tech since then it should be possible. The BT41 bogies as used under the mk4 has now been upgraded as the sig300, which is meant for 300kph running. When the 91's were running with a hst power car at the other end of the train acceleration was quite rapid with over 8000hp, I can only imagine what it would be with 12000+hp on tap. It would be nice to beat our own record again.
  18. You would think that after winning a case for non payment you could leave negative feedback, but Ebay would rather the buyer stay free to do it again.
  19. Did some more digging on the web and found this pic from 1986 showing the larger walkway heading thru the office block.
  20. I'd love to know how deep it was, I've seen pics of an m7 and some coal wagons which had fallen down it!
  21. It's been a while since I was there, but I think the walkway across the road is still there. Looks like I've got some digging to do!
  22. Same person with multiple accounts?
  23. 21 bids on it to! That cant be right surley?
  24. I suppose it depends how much time is saved vs the extra cost.
  25. Thanks for that, exactly what I need. I've heard the sidings referred to as both north and west, North makes more sense to me but I wonder if it's a hang over from the other sidings that used to exist slightly further out. Anyone know or have pics of what was behind the hoist? looks like some covered walkways to something?
