@reddragon There was a video a few pages back showing a passing Deltic hauled train on a layout and there was a great sense of doppler effect as the Deltic passed by and kept going on the long layout.

I would also be very interested in that comparison. The ESU chip seems to have all the software needed to simulate coasting and active braking, but I've never yet seen it implemented. The Zimo's I have tried with my Irish locos are so much more prototypical to drive than various ESU projects including IRM/Accurascale's Irish A class ESU decoder which was disappointing from a drivability point of view due to the apparent lack of coasting and manual braking.  There is nothing quite like cutting the loco back down to notch 1 and idle as the train continues on coasting using only brakes (F4 on Zimo) to bring the train to a gradual halt at the correct platform position in a station, just like the prototype. Zimo decoder projects may also need suitable function mapping to handle the various light configurations on Accurascale locos.  The ESU sounds great, its just a bit 'toyish' to drive compared to Zimo's more prototypical method. LokSound V5 with its latest 'full throttle' software should be able to do all the Zimo does and more.

Reading all these glowing reports, I'm really looking forward to ACC-267** D9013 'Black Watch' arriving probably next week at this stage. Have a rake of Maroon BR exLMS Coaches out of storage ready for her to haul. No notifications from DHL yet, but as Fran Burke said yesterday they are halfway through shipments so hopefully she'll leave on Friday. Ordered the sound version so that will be really interesting to drive prototypically.

Eminently re-creatable with Murphy Models for loco and mk2d aircon coaches, and Silver Fox or IFM for the Dutch GSV. The AS coaches 2b were not aircon. Don't think AS plan to release mk2d coaches. MM  have announced re-runs of mk2d and new runs of mk3, when only the clouds know. IRM/AS produced the fertiliser wagons featured on the train in the passing loop and the superb A class that hauled them.

F5 on ESU is normally throttle hold function, when engaged loco will continue moving or not moving at whatever speed step was selected when F5 was pressed allowing throttle to control engine notching instead of loco speed. Useful to simulate starting off with heavy loads, or simulate coasting on idle, progressively releasing F5 iteratively to decelerate or accelerate if departing. Independent control of notching enables prototypical simulation of thrashing as a heavy train starts to depart a station.

Ah apologies, Servos can be used to push/pull the surface mounted tie bar. Also with Cobalt if there is a base board cross member under the point requiring the point motor to be mounted other than under the points tie bar centre.

The bogies were fitted with 10mm diameter wheels, which looked odd, so I replaced them with 12mm diameters.

 

I replaced the handrails on the TPO coach with thinner brass wire examples and re-touched the paintwork on both coaches.  The brake coach interior was painted and pax added. A light weathering of the chassis and bogies completed the operation.

 

There is an “IFM” logo on each chassis - Irish Freight Models perchance?

Yes IFM alright. I assembled  and decorated one of their resin kits a few years ago. (below) Before the hand rails were added.

Recommend Cobalt stall point motors for reliable slow operation and frog polarity switching.

Pleased with the latest tree (centre of photo). Mix of Seafoam structure augmenting plastic tree armature, sprinkled with scatter to look like leaves. A little finer and less clumpy than clump foliage. This is addictive.

1. Start by shaping and painting plastic tree armatures (woodland scenics) Trees aren't brown.

2. Add on fine branch clumps using SeaFoam and tacky glue.

3. Spray outer small branches with sleeper grime or dull brown (ie to remove bright bits)

4. Apply hairspray style glue to stick leaves on which is scatter material gently scattered onto the tacky branches.

5. Result of using two shades of scatter material as simulated leaves. Content with that for a first stab.

Started trying various different tree construction methods. Lots to learn, lots to experiment with, lots to try. Having fun learning new stuff. 

Seafoam seems more realistic looking 

Woodlands scenics armatures are a bit bulky but with deflating and painting they can blend in.

Tomorrow going to try some seafoam on plastic armatures and then apply scatter for leaves

00 Works have done it again. Beyer, Peacock & Co J24 class 475 arrived today from 00 Works. 00 Works seem to have more scale features in terms of detail on these gorgeous Irish steam locos. Delighted to have one as I was with their J15's, but this little 0-6-0 is so cute.

Easter Sunday & Monday 2022

WMRC 12th Annual Easter Exhibition takes place on Easter Sunday 17th April (12:00-18:00) and Easter Monday 18th April (11:00 - 17:00) at St Joseph's Community Centre, Newline Road, Wexford Town, Y35 A66C. Enjoy the biggest layout exhibition hall in Ireland.

The exhibition will host a variety of model railway layouts, other model genres and trade stands. Refreshments will be available to all at the 'Station Café' which features home baking, sandwiches, soup, tea and coffee.

Here's a few pics of Accurascale A class locos running on the layout. Chassis with more smooth precision that a Swiss watch 

Original Metrovic with the Crossley power plant as delivered to CIE. This livery didn't last long, and got very grubby within weeks of entering service. The silver was just a dirty magnet. This model is of class leader A1 which comes in a presentation box.

A46 in late 50s, early 60s CIE flying snail green livery.

A55 in CIE black livery used in the mid 1960s

A12 Black CIE A class with yellow flash. 

A3r A class rebuilt with more reliable GM/EMD power plants with the stepped black'n'tan Livery that was employed from mid 1960s to mid 1970s. These locos proved reliable once the Crossley power was replaced with GM/EMD units and ran until the mid 1990s when they were withdrawn and scrapped.

A23r Rebuilt CIE with GM/EMD power plant in CIE Black'n'Tan livery which was used until the mid 1970s.

The body detailing and in particular the bogies are out of this world. Great runners could haul 30+ coaches.

Kieran you are the king of UTA and NIR, and what's so impressive is you made most of your own stock.
