  1. Thanks that makes sense, is there any additional signals required for the factory? (It just has the one trailing point off the UP line now.)
  2. @The Stationmaster I have been looking in the last couple of days and I’m wondering about the likelihood of modelling dual eras on one layout -the one we’ve been working on. It would be based on the same place, would 1930-35 and 1955-60 work? Or would I need to go earlier? Or could I go later? I would of course be changing the locos, stock, vehicles and maybe some of the buildings etc to “modernise” it( the latter two being on removable “pegs” I guess what I’m asking is of course I could do invoking rule no. 1 but would there be any major track changes that would make it unbelievable? I’m aware of Dr Beeching but need to probably read up on it a bit more, all I know is he cut alot of branch lines (ignorance showing) not sure when exactly…. Thanks again for all your help!
  3. This is what I was going off... When you say single slip is this what you are referring to? That's what I thought you meant and it's what I have put in the top two plans. edit: I think that is not what you meant! I’ll fix and post it later.
  4. I started using the large radius as they are all that is available in bullhead at present although I saw the update that we might get the medium radius and slips by Christmas, I thought it best to see how far I could go with large and shift down to medium in the yard if I had to! You read my mind regarding the fiddle yard, I changed to curved points (after reading a few posts on here stating that they are ok as long as gently eased into!) and can now fit x7 57’ coaches + 4-6-0 on the outside loop!
  5. I realise I've un-flipped them... Let me change that
  6. OK I think I'm on the right track (Pun intended!) now, complete with (single) slips and catch points! Wherever I put the trailing connection in I realise that it is facing for the other line... and there is now a loop created in the factory plan due to both the trailing connections... Two versions, one with a halt on each side and one with a factory. Hopefully nothing too seriously wrong with either! Side note: the town is representative, detail to come later. I'm thinking of "Wycombe Green" as a name, would that be pronounced "wickim"? I may drop one of the sidings in the factory version (There will be fence + gate on the factory too.). Mike, what is it that dictates placement of a signal box, I realise it should be close to the majority of point work for shortest rodding etc but I am curious! =) If all looks ok can someone signal it for me? In paint or similar preferably.... EDIT: Added signalling as suggested by Miss Prism.
  7. There is a double and a single slip in this version the single is at the top, I'll fix up the plan now anyways
  8. Thanks guys, yes it makes sense the connections should be trailing! I'll probably remove the loop seeing as it's not really long enough. RE Harlequin, I know they are a bit tight, unfortunately I've only got 10x9ft and really only 10x 5.5ft usable due to doorway+ storage (It's the 2nd bedroom of a 2 door flat!) It has r4 on the outside line and R3 on the inside + easements. As for the fiddle yard: It's 4 lane (2 each track) The outer oval can accommodate a 4-6-0 + x5 57' coaches and the inner the same but 4 coaches, I want to setup block detection to semi-automate the main line. I'll come back with some improvements! =)
  9. Thanks again Miss Prism! Will get them when my Dapol Prairie comes (hopefully before Christmas!) EDIT 1: I note that the non-corridor stock have the 1934-5+ roundel and the "Third" labeling as opposed to the Coat of Arms(suggesting it is 1938+ when the "Third" label was reinstated), would these have been outshopped in the COA? if so I can re-decal them and remove the "Third" label. Otherwise I can just get the corridor stock with the COA... EDIT 2: I've just made more room so I can run x7 57' coaches + a 4-6-0 now, what are my options? I'm willing to compress from an 8 coach set down if I have to. .
  10. Hi Mike, I've added the loop as Miss Prism suggested, as this allows an up goods to run around. I've vanquished the halt and the siding due to it looking too busy, I can always add one of these in at a later date when I have more space by inserting another board in between the existing two! Moved signalbox due to loop, is it still in the right place? Hopefully some of the signalling I have added is correct! Thanks everyone for you thoughts and assistance, it's difficult trying to model something from the other side of the world that you haven't seen in person!
  11. Thankyou! Bit of ignorance here but what would a 4-coach suburban set consist of? I really love that site, I always go back to it for reference -especially for the liveries!
  12. Hi Folks, I'm trying a different location now, between West Ruislip and High Wycombe. I see there is a coach diagrams book however it's not currently in stock at Abebooks Does anyone have example formations (as a guide) that would be 5 coaches or less OR could reasonably be compressed to a 5 coach train(perhaps 7?) Still 1930-35 Thanks in advance! Kegan
  13. Hi folks, I have what I hope is a layout plan that is semi-decent! Fictional layout based in 1930-35 GWR somewhere between High Wycombe and West Ruislip on the Paddington to Birmingham route. Double track main line leading to four lane fiddle yard in a loop, I envison eventually setting this up for block detection to take care of the main line. The 2 main boards pictured are 2 1/2 x 5ft(due to size constraints.). A couple things I'm not sure about: The placement of Signal Box If the factory siding or the halt are necessary Should/can there be a passing loop on the main line or in the goods yard ie does it need one? (I left it off due to being unsure about having a facing point on a main line) Should there be a separate siding for the guards vans? I haven't been able to find any pictures of this stretch (maybe I'm looking in the wrong places?) of track apart from present day but I am speculating it would have been semaphone? If it passes as a "Model Railway" as opposed to a model of a railway would there be someone who could be so kind as to assist me with signalling it? Thanks, Kegan
  14. Thanks for that Harlequin, that seems like a good idea! Unfortunately the room in my flat is small, when I eventually buy a house I intend to extend the layout from an "L" shape to a full oval but that would be at least 5 years away, so 4-5 coach trains will suffice for now. The main focus of the layout is the goods yard.
  15. I have had a look and am wondering if these areas were double track main line in the 1930s(they look to be in present-day): The line between Denham and High Wycombe on the Paddington to Birmingham line(is this the correct name for it?) and the line between Reading and Newbury. Otherwise I’ll have to rethink the location of my layout and perhaps make it a branch line. Also were there any small-medium goods yards in those areas? I’m sorry I’m a bit green on the geography and terminology, I live in New Zealand which is quite far away!
  16. Hi Jim, I must admit I am looking for an excuse to run a named loco like a Hall/Castle or maybe a King on the back of my goods layout, however I would prefer it to be semi-realistic, if possible! I added the main line to do this and also to hopefully give some allusion as to where the goods trains come and go from, along with Signals etc. maybe I'm expecting too much... =/
  17. Thanks guys, I think deep down I knew that I couldn't really do it justice, I'll rethink my area and move it further away from London where the line goes down to a single track main line each way. I guess my biggest thing is avoiding the cliche of "GWR Branch line" which has really been done to death at this point! Once I've settled on a new area should I post it here or create a new thread? Thanks again!
  18. Let me first start by saying that my knowledge is limited, I've recently got back into this after a long break. I live in New Zealand so I have not been able to study UK railways up close. I'm looking at modelling a GWR Layout in Southall (the double track main line) between 1930-1935. I realise that most express trains may have had up to 7-9 coaches I'm wanting to know if there are many train formations that had 4 or less coaches, as this is the train length limit I have. This could possibly be stretched to 5 if this would be more realistic. The yard is fictitious but would branch off either before or after Southall Station. There are no stations in my proposed layout, it is primarily a goods yard in a U shape with the Main line running in the background. If there are books available that have these formations for a reasonable cost then I would be happy to know what their titles are. I also am unsure as to what Locos would have been pulling these trains but I would hazard a guess at Kings,Castles and Halls(PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong here!) I've tried to give as much info as possible but please be kind and point out if there is something I have missed!
