  1. Hi Michael, Thanks, that is actually a Single slip it's just not very clear with the low-res screenshot I took of Anyrail :) Yes need to do tidyup re Signal box, catch points and signals. The catch point is actually the start of the incline up to the (I had it hidden as it is on a separate layer)
  2. Thank you all for the helpful ideas and responses. I spent a day yesterday going through some ideas and came across Kidlington which had what seems like a token branch to woodstock. I have made some alterations to suit my needs and have a rough plan that I am happy enough with to publish up here it has some compression of course(Still needs a little minor works and I will probably move the Gasworks to the right hand side to make the cutting more of a feature, also needs signalling): Gasworks on 2% incline from fiddle yard: My Friend did actually build a branch line! This is his (very nice) layout: Happy New Years (It's New Years Eve tonight in NZ)
  3. Ahh I see, that makes sense! Have updated it. Castle Class, BTK/TK/CK/RU/CK/TK/BTK This is particularly for the Castle-hauled portion from Paddington to Wolverhampton on a normal weekday (not Summer Saturdays!) If anyone can shed some light on the CCE formation prewar (perhaps @The Stationmaster) then that would be appreciated otherwise I’ll run it as above 👆:)
  4. Thanks for the input I'll keep it in mind but again, this isn't what I was posting about also those are BR and I am specifically modelling pre ww2 (1930-1935 to be precise). Are you able to provide relevant information regarding GWR Junctions? (Which is what I am actually posting about!) If not then kindly refrain from reponding.
  5. Crikey, being a bit blunt aren't you Keith? The above 3 questions are not really relevant to topic of "GWR Junction pointwork", but I shall respond nevertheless... Number 1: It's OO Scale Number 2: 20 x 7 ft To fit in a "Single Garage" Number 3: We shouldn't assume that Castles and Kings directly mean 12-13 coach trains. Cases in point and I'm sure there are others: https://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrsrh1600.htm When I stated "Double track main line to run Castle+King hauled Express trains" I am not meaning I will exclusively be running only Castles and Kings. Also seeing as no one was willing to put their neck on the line regarding the Cambrian Coast Express length or formation and I couldn't find anything on it for my era then I think 8 coaches will probably suffice assuming it isn't a Summer Saturday:
  6. Hi all, Has been a while since I posted, hopefully you all got some Model Railway supplies from Santa! In the past year or so I have been plugging away and finally finished my track plan for the forthcoming layout(Scenery, roads etc NOT final) There will be trap points where appropriate however these will be hand built. As usual it's a fictional station set in 1930-35 GWR somewhere between Banbury and Hatton on the Paddinton - Birmingham Main Line. It draws heavily on Lavington and Edington for alot of the track plan: I was feeling satisfied for several months until a friend of mine asked the simple question "Why not add a bay platform for a branchline" Which has opened a whole can of worms and I have been trying to locate suitable prototypes in which to copy. Must-haves: -Double track main line to run Castle+King hauled Express trains -Small goods yard with Shed -At least 1 refuge siding -Pub and a couple of shops - Small representation of the town -Gasworks complete with moving Gasometer to add visual interest -Branch line to interchange with suburban service -Cutting as scene block and as a key feature of the area It's also entirely possible that I have got too many "Must-haves" and the layout is trying to do too much! I have come up with a couple of options however to quote Blackadder "I'm not very happy with my definition of either of them" (One I copied somewhat from Bearley) and am hoping that the wonderful geniuses here on RMWeb might be able to provide either improvements to the below plans(maybe even extensive improvements!) or add any other prototypes for a GWR Junction as to draw inspiration from as the others I have found (for example Hatton Junction) are all double track branch lines. It is mostly the Junction pointwork that I am unsure about. (Does the branch need to be accessible from both the Up AND Down main lines?) Junction with single turnout (Gasworks is top RH on both versions) This one takes some influence from Bearley East Jct. but it has two Refuge sidings: P.S. SB may also be placed incorrectly. Sorry if this post is a bit rambly. If anything isn't clear please ask and I shall attempt to explain!
  7. I live in New Zealand and also didn't receive this email, rather worrying as I also couldn't find anything on hattons website about the forthcoming change. So I sent an email to hattons who promptly responded with this: Hello , Thanks for getting in touch. I've checked your account and found you're unsubscribed to our newsletter, which is why we did not send you the email advising of the changes to GST. I'm sorry, but we do not have an exact date for this change. We are still working on the implementation of collecting GST, but we will update our website as soon as we launch the update. To clarify, this change will affect both Australia and New Zealand. I hope this information helps, but please let me know if you have any additional questions. It's certainly not helpful having no set date and I'm wondering how much notice they will give before they implement it. I have created an account with TMC and moved my loco preorders across because they (as far as I can tell) are under the threshold as they are much smaller than Hattons. This has the added advantage of ordering models with their excellent weathering service and assuming there is no gst it works out roughly the same as Hattons will cost me in the future. I will still use hattons for the indivdual wagon releases and their pre-owned stuff as the Trunk is very handy for saving on shipping costs -even with the additional 15% gst! New Zealand model shops generally have shocking prices (at least double for most items) and they offer very little outside the Red boxed stuff.
  8. I’ve emailed Rapido but thought I would post here for all those eagle-eyed such as myself, it looks like they missed the “FYFFES“ logo off 93405 in the preorder photo for it however it was included in the rake of 3 on the website so it looks like the finished model might have it hopefully just a small discrepancy -correct render attached for assurance! :) either that or it may be due to licensing?
  9. Hi All, Apologies for reviving my old dead thread but wondering if anyone else has any further comments? Otherwise I will just run the following formation from the Hornby Collett collection which I think is similar to the formation used in the 50s: Castle Class, BSK/SK/CK/RU/CK/SK/BSK I believe my coaches have "Third" printed on them but to fall in line with the BR coach type codes I am supposing that it would be BSK or SK being "Second/Standard Corridor" dunno, I don't have experience in this particular aspect of railways..... Thanks, Kegan
  10. Drat, just as I was looking for ways to postpone my wallet getting lighter! I have got one of the very nice Dapol sound Prairies for the purpose of providing a local service on my forthcoming layout! So the formation would likely be BT-C-C-BT? Thanks!
  11. I wonder if Rapido is going to tool these so an E141 variant would be possible…
  12. Update: I’m blind and I missed the description on the earlier photo right at the bottom: The coach behind the locomotive is a fifty-eight foot, two inch long, non-corridor toplight brake, with six third class compartments, a guard’s compartment and luggage area. The diagram is D86 (or possibly D91). The difference between these two diagrams was that the diagram D86 coach was fitted with a close couple arrangement at the compartment end, which was also bow ended with the end compartment’s seats curved to fit this bow. For more details see 'gwrms1787'. Coach sets comprising; two composite coaches (E124 / E125), topped and tailed by a pair of these brake third coaches (D86 / D91) were allocated to suburban services in; London, Birmingham, Plymouth and Exeter Divisions. Seven of these four coach sets were allocated to Birmingham Division where they were termed ‘B’ sets. Robert Ferris
  13. Hi folks, I'm hoping someone who knows alot more about this sort of thing than me can assist with identifying what type of coaching stock and likely the formation(Also weather it is available in OO RTR) Says it's a local so would that indicate non-corridor similar to the Hornby Collett stuff that came out a few years ago(stab in the dark)? Original Photo: https://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrsrh288.htm Zoomed in: https://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrsrh288a.htm This looks to be definitely non-corridor: https://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrhc3916.htm Any help appreciated! P.S. I've looked for WTT's from this route1920s/30s and can't find anything for a decent price on ebay, same goes for any books that contain the WTT.... Thanks. Kegan
  14. Well, I can see the appeal of a fantasy loco not that it's for me but above all else what really gets my goat is that the official photo on the proposed box (Which I really hope they fix) and the main photo on the SVR website show a badly photoshopped "Taw Valley" with inconsistent lining(Red lining on the official website and Blue lining in this photo from Hornby). It should be white as far as I can see from this photo. Also the lazy person who they got to photoshop it didn't even bother to change the smokebox number, name plate or the tender logo -what a mess! 🤔🤣
  15. I got a similar response from them. The thing that annoys me the most is not that it's delayed, it's the constant radio silence from PECO. Dapol is not much better in the area of "Customer Communication." It should not be up to the customer to chase the manufacturer for updated ETAs People will understand and be more forgiving if you let them know there are issues and they are working on it and the release dates have been pushed out for whatever reason, it doesn't even matter if it's as vague as "The 2nd half of the year" it helps to set the expectations. ------End Rant------ 😛
  16. Well, it seems Rmweb has deleted my previous picture(which is odd seeing as it was posted AFTER the snap!) Anyway, hopefully I've interpreted your Signalling correctly Mike, if not I'm sure you will let me know! 😁 It should be mentioned that this layout will be semi-permanent and not portable. I have a small "Inglenook" for that... Cheers!
  17. Thanks Michael, I Understand how the Cattle dock and Goods Shed were in the real thing, but as you mentioned it was all quite compressed. I am not modelling the station exactly but merely using it's track plan as inspiration. The buildings will be of a different design and the yard will have more operational value. I raised the cattle dock question in this post, the angle needed is in the aforementioned book which I took a photo of I don't know if that is allowed but felt it integral to the question. Given this information I altered the layout of the goods yard to fit more wagons in a small space(3 wagons in the cattle dock as opposed to 2 and I will use a goods shed of the Brick variety), extra storage siding added etc, I did put a Diamond Crossing in by mistake (It should be a single slip) There are x3 Trap points on the image although I see now that it's not that clear. They are the Peco ones which I think is incorrect for GWR but are mainly there as a reminder for myself. I was copying the ones from the prototype photos on the Righthand/Station side of the layout however found no photos of the further signals(on the left of the layout) The Signals I will take a better look and re-do them tonight (7:48AM here!) Cheers!
  18. Awesome! Thanks so much, I thought I was right about the cattle dock, even allowing for photo compression It didn't look quite right, and the photo in the book all but confirmed it! Cheers
  19. Hi All, I am creating a layout based very loosely on Southam Road and Harbury on the Paddington to Birmingham route and I have filled in alot of the gaps from the excellent Warwickshire railways website and the book "Paddington to the Mersey" However there are a few things I am still puzzled by: What happened to the Oil/gas lamps I can see them clearly in this early 1900s photo(before the footbridge was erected) but after that all the lighting seems to have disappeared in this photo. Would this have been electric by the 30s? Surely not at a rural station? What is the long pole to the left of the signal for? Is it lighting? Last but not least the question that has been bugging me the most. The cattle dock in this photo and the caption: "propelled through the goods shed to the cattle dock" from all the research I can find it looks to me like the spur siding serves the cattle dock and possibly parcels as well via the platform and the track through the goods shed DOES NOT serve the cattle dock.(The photo I’ve added from the aforementioned book seems to indicate the spur siding serves the cattle dock -Mods please remove if not allowed.) Any assistance with any of these questions would be appreciated!
  20. Not sure if I should be reviving an old thread or should have created a new one, but this is what I've been busy with over the past month. It is a fictional station perhaps called West Harwick "inspired by" Southam road and Harbury on the often overlooked London-Birmingham line, however it will be positioned between Leamington and Lapworth(Before it turns to quad track) As is often necessary in our hobby some compression has occurred, I have tried to limit this to the removal of the Down refuge siding and compression of that side of the station(Which will be added in when I buy a house as I'm currently renting a 2 bed flat). I am unsure about the operation of the cattle dock or if it is in the right space but I will make a separate post for that. I have chosen to go with Large radius points for the main line and medium for the yard, I know this has been controversial but Peco have advised that their medium radius Bullhead points are now delayed till the end of the year and I was rather hoping that I can start this by August. The signalling I think is at least partly right going off pictures Here and in my book "Paddington to the Mersey" Here goes: Large squares 1ft small squares 2", It is a roundy with x5 staging yard roads, the longest able to fit up to an eleven coach express with a King however I haven't been able to find reliable information about the prewar formation of the Cambrian Coast Express(Hauled by a Castle) so I may end up just making it generic. As always constructive feedback is welcome! Cheers, Kegan
  21. @Alex TM Not sure If still of interest but I've found some other wagons at the station at Leamington that appear to be 7 or more planks they also state "TUBES" on the bottom RH side, no date though sorry(Appears to be Prewar due to GWR changing to White Lamp bodies in the 30s): https://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrls166a.htm
  22. Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has the formation for early-mid 1930s for the CCE as I can’t seem to find it! I would guess this would be made up of a mixture of Clerestory and 57’ Collett bow-ended stock and hauled by a Castle as far as allowed per route restrictions? I see some were King-hauled in the 50s… thanks in advance!
  23. Sorry for reviving a dead thread but I’m trying to reproduce “The Bristolian” in 1935-6. Would the formation here for 1937-38 be the same as earlier, and if so what is the Diagram of the “First (7 compartments)” ? Thanks, Kegan
  24. @sjrixon I had exactly the same issue with mine, sorry @rembrowI just saw your post, looks like either lengthening the slots would work too, didn't see that one but the procedure I used was this one (Start at the 4 minute mark.): After his fix it runs like a dream.... Hopefully it works for you too.
