  1. Thanks fellas, it seems putting the railway station name into ebay.co.uk brings up a few B&W photos too thanks for the signal box diagram Mike. Ahh, removed in early 20s explains why there are no photos of the goods yard! Thanks Phil! Case closed! =)
  2. Thanks Hal, I will track down these books before I put any $ into BR coaches (The 1951-55 is going to be dual-era on my 1930-35 layout) -cheers =)
  3. Thanks everyone, good to know. So to sum it all up: Mostly Collett stuff Some Churchwood Some ex-LMS coaches in BR guise (would this be painted into Crimson&Cream as opposed to Choc?) Some Hawksworth on Express/Named Little if any MK1 Mixture of Crimson & Cream and Choc & Cream liveries. Cheers!
  4. Hi Folks, Sorry for yet another question! But after studying some ordnance maps of GWR double-track stations I see this siding pop up a fair bit, is it a headshunt or parcels dock perhaps? Here is a photo I found of the siding at Aldermaston in use(will remove if I have to for copyright) it looks to be just general wagons here which is confusing: Any help would be appreciated. I am using these stations as inspiration for my layout =)
  5. Hi All, I am looking for pictures of the station and/or goods yard at Winterbourne to draw inspriration from (which has an interesting track plan!), all I have is an ordnance map and a pretty average wikipedia article:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winterbourne_railway_station All it says is "Winterbourne railway station served the South Gloucestershire village of Winterbourne, England, from 1903 to 1963." NOT very helpful! Hopefully someone has some more info! Cheers
  6. Hi All, I am not sure if this is the right place to put his but here goes: I've had a good look at this page(awesome site btw!): http://www.gwr.org.uk/liveriescoach1948.html I am wanting to know what would commonly be seen in 1951-55 on the Bristol-Taunton line(roughly) in terms of coaches(express & local). I understand that the BR mk 1(64ft?) was released in 1951 and I believe these would be in carmine&cream for corridor and crimson allover for non-corridor. I also take it from reading up about the Hawksworth 63ft that they were in the minority and the majority of stock would be Collett 57' and Toplight (57'?) So basically what would the average spotter see on that route (the make-up). Hopefully it's clear enough, please let me know if further clarification is needed...
  7. Oops! I moved my track slightly in anyrail and the goods shed didn't move with it! Thanks again Stationmaster! Adjusted slightly incorporating suggestions: The only things in this that are pretty much set in stone now is the main line track plan and the signalling. There is still more work required to Adjust the town/goods yard and the station buildings. More detailed research is required on my part in order to make all of those things flow nicely! Thanks again guys, the track plan is the most important part and I feel that is mostly complete... @The Stationmaster would the one signal box(to the right of the bridge) be alright? Also if I were to add a level crossing(just a what-if at this stage!) at the left end of the platform, would that change the signalling at all? Regarding the goods yard curve, it will look like this beyond the bridge(I think): Unless you were referring to actual curve/headshunt that leads to the fiddle yard.... it's not too bad it's no less than R4 (572mm) I don't intend to run any 2-8-0s on it most likely, Hall, Mogul & Pannier Thanks all!
  8. OK! Here is my 'nother go at it. I've tried to straighten the whole thing out so the only curves that are seen are on the left (and are a gentle radius) heading into the tunnel. Shown excluding fiddle/staging yard boards, all track in green will be backscene, Halt has been promoted, imagine trailing crossover is off-scene to the right as it was in the old one(there is a little point setup going on in the staging yard that allow the goods train to back into the yard from the UP main line) Detailing incl. exact positioning of buildings, bridge etc not complete just in roughly the correct place give or take an inch or three. Signalling may well need re-doing as I have only copied from the previous version. I expect @The Stationmaster will be along soon to correct as necessary! Signal box is assumed to be where it was originally(off-scene next to the trailing crossover to the yard) unless another would be needed due to the bridge blocking sighting? @The Stationmaster if you could clarify? (The thing next the the "UP" is a plate layers hut not a signal box) No trap points added, there is one on the yard entrance though unsure if more are needed. As this is a re-draw it may not be as refined as it needs to be, specifically the layout of the goods yard & town. Special thanks to @Harlequin for making me re-assess my plan as I'm much happier with how this flows more naturally and isn't so cramped/squashed!
  9. Late reply to this, I'm in Auckland. Currently rebuilding a small first layout(Inglenook)
  10. I forgot to mention this: All my goods wagons and locos have kadee’s and there will be Neo magnets embedded strategically in the yard
  11. Sorry! I forgot to answer your question! They are just over 6 ft -long enough to fit a King, x6 57’ collet coaches and a Siphon. The idea was not to have it stop(express) but just to pass through(hence the halt/platforms). I would have something like a diesel railcar stop at the platform. Or perhaps a prairie with 2-3 coaches.
  12. I’ll have another go at it. I need to have an excuse to run a King with 6-7 coaches as I already have them! the goods yard was to accommodate my Skaledale goods shed. I may be able to cut the yard size down, and have a full station, maybe something inspired by Nailsea and Backwell… let me mull over it in the coming days! Cheers, Kegan
  13. I believe the B&ER was broad gauge the track spacing in 30s appears to be aswell (to my eye) https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nailsea-Backwell-Railway-Station-Photo-Yatton-Flax-Bourton-6-/262965662771?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
  14. Thanks both of you, I've removed the footbridge(I think a subway between the platforms will do nicely.), adjusted the siding length and moved the bridge to hopefully improve access to the sidings, I've also changed the signal placement (Please forgive me if I've done it wrong!) (There is a tunnel on the Right scene -block) How's this:
  15. **Sorry Mods if this is counted as reviving a dead thread.** @The Stationmaster How does this look as far as signalling and overall aesthetics/flow goes (it's been through some changes since I last posted it) Notes: Headshunt removed as suspect Main could be used instead (not sure if this is correct) The Halt has enough space for x3 57' coaches There is space in front of the Goods shed to have turning vehicles/carts, I'm not sure if the bridge would be that long or where it should taper off. Era is still 1930-35 just edging into GWR Roundel but majority of stock still "Great (COA) Western" Location is now somewhere between Bristol & Weston SM where it was two-track. Layout is now a U-shape as opposed to oval to provide more space in the room.
  16. Thanks guys, not worried about pre-grouping workings just 1950s
  17. This might be a bit of a far reach but I will try to explain my situation below: I have a GWR layout in progress that I aim to be dual era (Mid 1930s & Roughly 1950-56) I have a King pulling an express for the 1930s Era and I was aiming to avoid having another King(Although a blue one could be an option). I was wanting to have the 50s era different to the 30s in terms of loco's, the location fictional and near Bristol/WSM but this is able to be changed for the 1950s. What I am looking for is a shred of evidence for running foreign(ex LNER/LMS/SR) loco's on my layout without having to invoke Rule 1 (My Layout blah blah) I know of the x2 Princess and x2 Coronation's filling in for the Kings in early 1956, were there any others maybe SR Pacifics? Any evidence would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  18. I was thinking exactly the same thing, I’m modelling pre-roundel 1930s and I was pretty disappointed with the last 2 years Hornby announcements! I’ve got a Hornby King(splendid, if a little large) and after months of scouting ebay I managed to get my hands on a used Bachmann Pannier which of course has inaccuracies such as the topfeed etc. I’ve had a Dapol sound prairie on order for what seems like a decade and have heard nothing from them.(The non-sound ones arrived just before Christmas) I sure picked the wrong time to start building up my fleet! I’m doing a early 50s layout aswell and have pre-ordered one of these splendid Accurascale Sound Manor’s as I couldn’t resist!
  19. Wow guys, thanks so much for all the help! So much potential here, I’ll delve deeper in the coming days. Thanks alot!
  20. Bit of a stab in the dark with this but what I'll start by explaining what I am "trying" to do!: I am planning a future small OO layout roughly 10x2 1/2'(excluding fiddle yard) The purpose of this is to showcase an upcoming split headcode 1970s Class 37 from Accurascale: https://accurascale.co.uk/collections/class-37/products/37001 Scope to add other locos such as Class08 etc (maybe) From what I can gather 37001-009 at least were (to my untrained eye) the same build in the period I'm modelling so renumbering is an option(What else could I get away with?) In the 1970s these were based at Thornaby according to Class37.co.uk and they were given the TOPS number in 1974 I really like the look of a grubby class 37 in blue so a small yard/factory with equally weathered rolling stock is preferred. If anyone has any examples of areas that could be modelled in the limited space (10x 2 1/2' ) or perhaps scaled down/part of a larger yard and also examples of rolling stock used it would be much appreciated! Of course books and photos are also helpful.
  21. Hi Mike, I’ve changed my location now to be more “Western” now it’s between Bristol(where it goes 2 line) and the spur going to Weston-Super-Mare! I’m sure I’ll find questions to ask about traffic, at least it seems like there is more published than the other line!
  22. Thanks everyone this is interesting, it seems that I will need to move my location to a GWR line and it’s always good to hear from people who have experience as it’s difficult to discern from photos! Thank you all very much! :)
  23. I'm modelling the line between High Wycombe and West Ruislip in the early 1930's and I'm struggling to find out running numbers for locos or pictures that can convey what these were. If anyone has got any information about where the locos that served/could be seen in this area let me know, as far as I can tell the closest Sheds would be either Old Oak Common or maybe Slough as a starting point? Perhaps there was no yard locomotive there and it was just served by whatever "local" was serving the area. I believe were Goods Shed's at Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross and Denham. The little evidence I have that there was a goods shed at each of those locations is Ornance maps and a "Diagram of station and pickup truck itineraries -Reading District" Are there any books that cover this area in some detail? In choosing this area it seems that there is not much written on as it is just outside London but not really far enough "West" Perhaps I am setting myself up to fail and I should change areas!
  24. Looks like that line pretty much stopped passenger services in 1972, easy time period to cutoff, I wonder if they ever had concrete sleepers by then….
  25. Ahh! I’ve been having a search and found your reply in this thread which pretty well answers my questions! thanks!!
