  1. Another one taken some time in 1986 at Carlisle: 47526 Northumbria departs south from Carlisle passing 86428 Aldaniti in the centre road. If I remember correctly the 47 had taken over from the 86 which had brought the train in from the north and this was a loco changeover. It was only when sorting out this scan that I realised the 47 has a missing light on the headcode replacement panel! Trevor
  2. 87020 North Briton waits to head south from Carlisle on an unrecorded date in 1986. Anyone know if this loco's livery changed at some point in 1986 to tie the date down a bit better, please? Cheers Trevor
  3. Here's a shot with a D400 in it from 1968, so it was fairly new out of the box. D402 at the head of a northbound freightliner train waits at signals just south of Carnforth station as D1739 crosses its path with a train from Barrow, on 19th July 1968 Trevor
  4. 50008 arrives at Liskeard from the west on 7th June 1977 Trevor
  5. BR leaflet from 1978. Who would have thought most of these would still be going strong 40 or so years later? (OK, with several refurbishments and engine changes later!) Most of us probably hated them at the time as it meant the end of the 'Deltics', but I think of them now as old friends and worth a photograph. Trevor
  6. 87034 William Shakespeare northbound at Carlisle on 19th April 1987 Trevor
  7. A couple of shots of 'Deltics' on named trains at Peterborough seen from the road bridge north of the station: 55012 has just passed Peterborough station with the down 'Flying Scotsman' on 31st July 1975 55005 passes Eastfield signal box on the northern approach to Peterborough with the up 'Tees-Tyne Pullman' on 31st July 1975 Trevor
  8. Sounds interesting, Dave/Crispy! Why not take a photo and upload it to the 'Souvenirs from the Good Old Days' currently running on this site? Cheers Trevor
  9. A couple of shots on the ECML south of Peterborough: 55021 heads north through Sandy on 31st July 1975 under clear semaphores. The disused trackbed on the left was the route of the old L&NWR line from Oxford to Cambridge which crossed over the main line behind me The same day saw me a few miles further north: 55001 southbound approaching Huntingdon station, passing Huntingdon North 'box on 31st July 1975 Next up will be Peterborough. Trevor
  10. Sounds good to me. 'The good old days' is whatever is nostalgic to you. Any chance of a photo of this destination board, then? Sounds interesting. Cheers Trevor
  11. Here's 50026 near Teignmouth with the up 'Cornish Riviera Ltd' on 27th May 1975. Looks like I wasn't the only one taking a photo. Trevor
  12. Last two of mine from the London area: 55021 with the 'Flying Scotsman' climbing between Gasworks and Copenhagen Tunnels, soon after leaving Kings Cross on 1st August 1975 Five miles out and 55017 is getting into its stride at Wood green later that same day, passing the rather nice wooden signal box which looks a bit out of place under the wires. Next ones will be more 'out in the sticks' Trevor
  13. Well, Paul, I've never noticed that before. Thanks for pointing it out! This site is probably a good place to see if anyone can fill us in on the details. Cheers Trevor
  14. Thanks for checking on that, Neil. So our paths didn't cross after all. I was in Devon all that day but I did see D1070 at Exeter that afternoon heading for London. As you can see from this picture I didn't include enough of the loco to check for rust marks on the front! (Actually it would have been on the other end.) D1070 at Exter SD on 29th May 1975 Cheers Trevor
  15. Very kind of you to say so. I travelled on the ECML with 'rover' tickets of one sort or another in the mid 70s and took photos at places which took my fancy e.g. with semaphore signals or old signal boxes etc. I'll be putting these up in due course, from London to Berwick. Regards Trevor
  16. I was on the final steam-hauled Preston to Blackpool South train with 45212 on 3rd August 1968. On arrival in Blackpool the crew were giving away pieces of coal from the tender as souvenirs. Does anyone still have a piece from this, or any similar, occasion? (And how would you prove the provenance of a bit of coal?!) Something more tangible from that last frantic week of the end of 'normal' steam working is this shed permit for the last three sheds (Carnforth, Rose Grove and Lostock Hall). I had been staying during the final week at the Youth Hostel at Arnside (handily near Carnforth.) During a break in activity at Preston I went to what was then, I suppose, the BR Divisional HQ to see if I could get permission to visit the sheds (having already unofficially 'done' Carnforth!) As a mere schoolboy I was half expecting to be thrown out of the building, but my luck was in and I came away with this! Trevor
  17. Two more pictures of mine at Kings Cross: With the redundant station signal box prominent in the centre, 55017 and 55014 wait to move out to the stabling/refuelling point away to the left on 3rd August 1975 Photographed from the road over Gasworks Tunnel, 55017 sets off for the north on 1st August 1975 Trevor
  18. 50030 Crosses the Royal Albert Bridge into Devon on 28th May 1975 Trevor
  19. My earliest 'Deltic' photo dates back to 'Brownie 127' camera days: D9000 at Newcastle in 1964 Three years later I was able to photograph moving trains with a 35mm camera: D9021 near Low Fell with the up 'Flying Scotsman' on 29th April 1967 They had all turned blue by the time I started shooting in colour. Let's start in London and work our way north: 55005 arriving at Kings Cross on 1st August 1975 Trevor
  20. 50034 arriving at Liskeard with a Penzance to Paddington train on 8th June 1977 Trevor
  21. 50038 waits for the 'off' at Penzance on 6th June 1977 Trevor
  22. Here's the first photo I took of a 'D400' - D422 with a southbound express at Carlisle on 1st June 1968. I've also got a few colour shots of them on the WR in the 1970s: 50018+50002 at Plymouth on 7th June 1977 on the up 'Cornish Riviera Ltd' (or should that be 'Cornish Riviera Express'?) Cheers Trevor
  23. @ The Border Reiver That's great - it's a small world! I'm not on your picture - are you on mine? Can you please confirm the location is Stalbridge. Cheers Trevor
  24. These are great - love The Royal Scot in particular. Wish I had thought of doing that! Cheers Trevor
  25. A couple more from me: Souvenirs from what was supposed to be the 'last public run of an A4 Pacific Class Loco' on 3rd September 1966, except that sister loco 60024 covered a failed diesel a few days later. Can anyone decipher the driver's signature? A faded newspaper cutting from the Daily Mirror of 3rd February 1967 - 70013 is the last steam loco to be overhauled at Crewe. What a great shot! - even though (or perhaps because) it looks staged. Trevor
