  1. Very best wishes, @Northroader. Take it easy and hopefully you'll be back on mainline duties soon. Jim
  2. I understand it was standard practice for the shafts to be removed and placed under the pantechnicon on the floor of the wagon for transport. Jim
  3. I've been pointed to this thread after sending the following to @AY Mod :- Once again I am finding it increasingly frustrating to use the 'Pre-grouping - Modelling and Prototype' forum on an Android phone, running Android v9. Attempts to access it via either the bookmark I have created or the RMWeb home page result in a 'This page is not working' message. I can access it by going via a response to a post I have made in one of the topics, but it is very, very slow to load and I get repeated 'Chrome is not responding' and 'System UI is not responding' messages. I do not have this issue with either of the other two fora which I routinely access, 2MM finescale and Railways of Scotland, so I cannot see that it can be an issue with my phone. I have no such issues on my Desktop using Windows 10 and Chrome. Is there something that needs to be looked at in the Android version of this forum? Having read through this, I swapped over to expanded view (wasn't aware of these options) and it now works fine. Odd thing is that it was only on the one forum that I was having the problem and only on my phone! Jim
  4. Been away for the weekend, so a bit late in posting this, but here's some of what you missed in the Blue Mountains. Katoomba Station The Three Sisters (on the left) From our trip to Sydney & Melbourne in 2015. Jim
  5. There's a simple two word answer to that - 'prove it'! 😁 Jim
  6. I thought it was the lefty lawyers that were stopping government policies working, not the wokerati? 🤔 Jim
  7. When fitting memory wire actuators to some of the turnouts on Kirkallanmuir I tried using just one for a crossover, but I found that getting everything adjusted so that both sets of switches went fully over and the microswitch also changed was such a faff that it was easier to fit one per turnout and wire them in series. Jim
  8. Thanks to the patience and perseverance of a fellow member of our area group successful prints of the brake 3rd roofs have been produced and so the set is now complete. Brake third No.107 Brake 3rd No. 571 The completed set I suppose I'll now have to think about building a 766 class (Dunalaster II) to haul them! 🤔 Jim
  9. I shall check that out when we are down there this weekend for a short break! Jim
  10. Bright, Sunny and snow free here! 😄 Jim
  11. Normal loading gauge height is 13'6", 27mm, above rail (p10 of the handbook), however some RTR stuff may be taller than that so need extra clearance. I had to raise the height of the Dunblane footbridge for Dunallander as a Farish(?) Duchess wouldn't pass under it at scale height. Jim
  12. Which I why I offered these vehicles with their low floor. Trolley No 1 (CR Dia 34) would therefore seem to suffice. Jim
  13. As an aside Gladstone's grandfather, Thomas, was a native of Biggar. Jim
  14. If one is found you'll need this to transport it (providing it's under 20T.). 20T trolley No.1 If it turns out to be heavier than that a 40T one may be needed. Jim
  15. 'OK, which smart a**e put a goldfish in here?' 😄 Jim
  16. I've not experienced any such problem. How old is your skew gear? I understand there was a batch produced some time ago that had the skew the wrong way. Jim
  17. My concern with 3D printed bodies is one of weight. How much adhesion does the loco have to haul a decent train? It can be difficult enough with a metal body to get sufficient adhesion in a small loco. Jim
  18. An Eire modeller friend of mine once said that the Southern Irish are living for the future, the Northern Irish are living in the past! Jim
  19. Forgot to add this photo for all you Harry Potter fans.
  20. Some video from Model Rail Scotland yesterday. More Copper Wort Breweries seem to be popular. This is North Cornwall Brewery. Some more Burntisland The roundhouse Jim
  21. On Kirkallanmuir I put a couple of brass screws under each of the brass sleepers and soldered the sleepers securely to them. Jim
  22. I'd recommend you keep the two adjacent boards fixed together and lay the track right across the joint. Then cut through the rails with a razor saw before separating the boards. That way you will get a smooth alignment over the board joint. Jim
  23. wagons can be shunted on and off the train ferry and the ramp can be raised and lowered. It started as an entry (the winning one BTW) to the S4 Societies challenge a number of years ago to build a layout in 18.84 sq. ft. and since then, like Topsy, it has growed! Jim
  24. A couple of the pre-group layouts at Model Rail today. Copper Wort The star, for me anyway, and not just because i know several of those involved in it, Burntisland 1884 I will try to get some more tomorrow. Jim
