  1. Having recently carried out a simple detailing job on one of these, hopefully for use on the Bournemouth West layout, has anyone else noticed that the counter balance weight on the loco drive models are on the wrong wheel. When purchasing a spare set from Peter Spares or elsewhere you will get the weight on the correct wheel, but the traction tire will be on the none driven rear wheel. Mine is based on 40564 on Templecombe shed from a photo in the “The S&D in Colour” page 114. Reducing the tender to engine gap was an easy fix, see draw bar picture. This is a TTS sound fitted 2P and notice how the engine to tender wiring does not use the draw bar cut outs to route the wiring
  2. New releases due soon say all wheel pickup and drive, hopefully this might overcome some of the drive problems.
  3. Having bumped into Colin at the Wimborne Society Open day in Dec. I was somewhat taken aback to find no one had contacted him about the sale of Pine Road. A few days later I contacted him and arranged to view the layout and a deal was done and I’m now the new custodian of Pine Road, can’t say owner as no one can take this layout away from Colin’s creative ownership. My original thinking was to bring the era up to the BR 50’s early 60’s to fit in with my existing Wimborne stock, but the I more soaked up the atmosphere of the layout the more it cried out to be kept in the 1930’s, who can resist those Adams Radials in Southern Maunsell Green. Never say never, but at least for the time being mid 1930’s it stays. There was I telling the wife at least I won’t have to buy any more stock to run on the new layout, damn more brownie points to be earned. Aim now is to get it back on the exhibition circuit and with that in mind the fiddle yard board is being returned to its original layout and the ends of the two main boards modified so they can be joined back to back for easier transportation. Other tasks in the planning stage are, pelmet with lighting gantry and replacement back board scene. So hopefully the future is bright for Pine Road and it has reached the type of person Colin was looking for and by keeping it local he can still keep an eye on it. Ian

  5. Rather than start a new topic I’ll add my question to this thread. Been asked to supply a loco drive 2P to the stock of the local club layout and having one of the bargain R3315’s that were on offer until recently, I thought it would make a good contender. Prior to the usual weathering and renumbering I looked into replacing the driven tyre wheel with a normal wheel from the X6472 wheel set. I thought I would just have to move the gear wheel from the axle of the tyre wheel, but was surprised when the X6472 arrived to find the gear is on the none tyre wheel. That hopefully will make the modification much easy than first thought, but wouldn’t help anyone else who wanted a wheel set as per the model. Has anyone else come across this abnormally?
  6. Considering the likely high price increase, if one of the first batch fails and is returned to the retailer under warrantee, can the customer insist on a replacement from the new batch next year or can retailer insists on only refunding what customer paid. So far mine’s holding up after tweaking the pony trucks to reduce point derailing, lowering coupling yet to do.
  7. Update on the crooked step. Post 721 I found that by very gently levering the step there was movement of the forward visible lug that was holding the step to the bogie. Picture 1 I got it to the point where that lug was almost out but there was another lug holding it in that finally broke off which can be seen as the white spot in picture 2. If I had noticed the second lug earlier I may have been able to prize it out also, but think it might have been glued in better and not come out without breaking. I think I was lucky at least one lug was not glued in too well. Picture 3 shows the removed step with one good lug and one broken. I drilled out the hole in the bogie very slightly oversize so the lug slipped in without force and glued it in horizontally level picture 4. However being held in with two lugs means there is only one position that the step can be installed in and to reposition the step one lug has to be broken off. If the step is crooked means either the holes were drilled incorrectly or the lugs on the step not positioned correctly.
  8. Funny I was going to mention your picture in post 645 along with another in post 466 as both looking crooked. However many others show them straight as well as on mine, the step on the other side on the same bogie and both at the other end. No big issue, but just look odd.
  9. Couldn’t resist the temptation at the weekend and bought an early whiskers 122 at a local exibition. A little sad when getting it home to find both battery boxes in the bottom of the retaining case, but hey ho. Turning it over to see where they had come out from I noticed the rear steps on the bogie at the guards end looked a little close to the underframe fixtures. Putting it on the test track confirmed that on one side the step did clip part of the underframe going round the curve. Also noticed that the rear step on the other side on the same bogie seemed to be at a crooked angle. Putting the boxes back on and trimming the step were easy options, removing and repositioning the step not quite so without possible damage to the step. Putting all three problems together and knowing the trader should still have another I returned it on Sunday for a replacement. No problems with the second accept the step in the same position as the first still looks a little crooked, but not as bad. It got many positive comments from members when shown on the club layout last night.
  10. Not being able to pre-order one from my local shop, I was wondering yesterday if they had arrived in the shops and found this thread. At first ordered the MSC one online from Hereford, but then had second thoughts, rang them and changed it to Dodo no problem. Ordered it with Royal Mail second class signed for expecting delivery sometime after Xmas. Image my surprise when it arrived this morning. Excellent service from Hereford and Royal Mail, thank you, you made my Christmas. Looking forward to running it at the Wimborne open day on the 30th if they let me http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/events/13896-Event running through Wimborne Station light engine as pseudo “George Jennings” , on its way from South West Potteries at Parkstone to St Mary’s Southampton for maintenance. What a beauty
