  1. From the two I have received, see my pervious post, and the two my colleague picked up at the same time they have be very well produced. Comparing them to my Kernow version there seems to be no tooling changes, just livery changes, but what nice changes they are. Unlike the Gate stock, that is packaged exactly like Kernow’s, the Well Tanks are completely different. Much larger box and very well protected. Very nice to get a new model with everything attached, everything aligned, not bent and no marks. Of course this is subjective and probably biased, but if you are thinking about one of these or the Gate Stock I wouldn’t leave it too long, the retailer who we purchased these from said Bachmann were already sold out to retailers orders.
  2. Managed a click and collect today. What a pair, cant see these hanging around long. To answer my earlier question about the axle length of the Gate Stock, although the Olive Green set wasn't in today, measuring a BR red set showed them at approx. 24.5mm,
  3. Does anyone (Graham) know if the new Gate Stock will still have 24.5 mm axles as per the earlier Kernow sets. I have an outstanding order for Gibson Maunsell wheels and wounding if I need to increase the order to cover the set I have just ordered.
  4. I picked up a bag of white metal loco figures at a local swap meet last year which I have just got around to painting and I’m very impressed with the detail on them and would like to purchase more. If anyone knows of the source for them could they let us know. I’ve spent a lot of time looking online to no avail.
  5. Hi Mike Sorry should have made it clear that statement referred to this model, not all wagons in general. They went to the trouble of including the underframe vac pipe crossing over from one side to the other, but then didn’t match it on one end with the upright hose.
  6. Whilst building a Parkside kit to represent one of the five ply sided Air Control Vans used with the PP sets, https://urlzr.mp/Kqb I referred to my Bachmann S1101S to confirm vac pipe layout and noticed an error. Although the underframe pipe work has been represented correctly and crosses over left to right from one end to the other the upright vac pipes at each end have not been crossed over. Looking end on the Vac pipe should always be to the left of centre.
  7. I am attempting to replicate one of the five ply sided PMV’s that were converted to Air Control Vans, nick name Pram Vans, used on the Bournemouth West to Brockenhurst Pull Push sets between 1962-64. As a basis I have used the Parkside PC47 Ply sided CCT and the ends from the PC37 PMV with the panel lines filled in. I have use Mike King's "Southern Pull Push Stock" book as a reference and by using photos from several other books I’ve managed to correct some details, such as the lack of roof vents, but I still have a couple of unanswered queries, can anyone one help. Mike King’s book shows upright type vacuum pipes, however although I have found no end pictures of these actual vans, S1621S - S1625S, several close numbered PMV’s on Paul Bartett’s web pages and this close number one at Washford https://urlzr.mp/Fqb show them fitted with straight hoses out of the buffer beams. Some vans may have been converted over time, anyone know the status in 1962. Other query, again for same time period, were the ends painted black or green, most black and white pictures show vans in such a state it’s hard to tell, even though they were in service for only a couple of years. That’s assuming they were repainted at conversion time 1962. Thanks Ian
  8. Thanks to David Townend who put together a fine Zoom presentation of Pine Road for his Mc Kinley group I have managed to use some extracts from that presentation to create a more detailed video of the layout. These are my first attempts at Youtube so any comments towards improving presentation welcome.
  9. May I invite you to view Pine Road, “Evoking the slow, idyllic life synonymous with the Dorset countryside” Pine Road is a layout started in 2007, named after and inspired by the very road the builder of the layout was born in. However, despite the portrayal of several childhood memories, Pine Road remains a largely imaginary vision of a place somewhere in Southwest Dorset around the mid-1930’s. More detailed pictures and videos to follow.
  10. If changing the number is all you require, no problem as others have said. If you want a more accurate 30093 a few other things might need changing. Unlike 30096, 93 never carried a late BR crest. It didn't have the large add on cover on the cab back plate to accommodate the brake handle and the cab front plate was never cut away and later in filled plated as per 96. Ian
  11. Drummond Boiler 30084 B4 arrived today on Pine Road. To keep prototypical the RH tool box has been removed as per all pictures I have found of 30084, one being https://rcts.zenfolio.com/steam-sr/sr/b4/hA8920143#ha8920143 A little disappointed as the boxes on both my earlier released 30096 just pulled off, this one was well stuck on and one pin snapped off on removal. No problem as surface blemish will be weathered over with coal dust from the coal stack on top of the firebox.
  12. According to the D.L Bradley book on Adams looks like it might have to be either 147 which kept the Drummond boiler all it’s life or 82 which lost it in 1951. The other three lost theirs between 1936 and 1941.
  13. Haven’t heard anyone report this before. A club member purchased this sound fitted radial new just before Xmas. Reported to me that it run very slow and then stopped completely. I found there was no continuity between the wheels back to the chip socket. The wiring from the main driving wheels and rear wheels pick ups are routed via plunger contacts on to the bridging PCB. There was no continuity from either sets of wheels on to the PCB board. Unscrewed the board and found the PCB tracking underneath was completely burnt away. There was considerable signs of overheating in the vicinity.
  14. Yes the pickups on my 2662 are very thin with very little tension. It ran fine on DC, but initially on DCC it was a very poor runner. The pickups seem to go out of adjustment after some 30 mins of running. Finally after careful adjustment I managed to get sufficient tension in them to stay firmly against all the wheels at full travel. DCC running was still not good. However after a day’s running at the Wimborne open day and all weekend at Frome on Pine Road it’s running better than ever. Only thought at the moment is that due to prolonged running any thin film on either the pickups or backs of the wheels has broken down. Time will tell if they stay in adjustment, I have my doubts, Sheffield sound fitted one ordered as insurance. Long term I feel these pickups are going to prove the Achilles heel for these New Terriers.
  15. After its relaunch showing at the Wimborne Open Day last weekend Pine Road is all loaded and looking forward to the Frome show this weekend. Will the hares finish their boxing match by then ?
  16. A very successful open day yesterday. Pine Road’s relaunch was well received with many favourable comments from the public in recognition of the builders Colin Lockyer’s modelling skill. Looking forward now to taking Pine Road, along with the club’s Wimborne layout, to Frome next weekend for the WAMRC’s exhibition. https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/148443-wamrc-frome-4-5-january-2020-layout-list-added/ See you there.
  17. One year to the day from Andy York's announcement my SR, 24T Diag. 1543 Goods Brake Van, 55062 - Era 3 was delivered to my door within 2 minutes of the stated delivery time. I'm no expert, but yes it does look a very light brown, especially when compared to the Bachmann Pill Box. Would be interesting to hear how Hornby came to decide on that shade of brown. Won't stop it being run on Pine Road this Sat. though. Not sure if it has been mentioned before, but it comes with a set of metal Route restriction metal overlays.
  18. I've never ordered anything from the Hornby site before, but seeing these were available and a promise of delivery before Xmas, I relented and ordered a R6913 SR, 24T Diag. 1543 Goods Brake Van, 55062 - Era 3.so I could run it on Pine Road for the Wimborne RS Open Day on Sat 28th. DPD delivery due this afternoon so will be running it on Sat. to probably replace the Pill Box on the daily Pine Road Pick up freight.
  19. Looking forward to seeing you all this Sat. Free Parking will be available in the Allenbourn Middle School, BH21 1PL, East Borough almost opposite Chapel Lane. Hornby's new R6913 SR, 24T Diag. 1543 Goods Brake Van, 55062 - Era 3 will be delivered this afternoon and be should be on Pine Road this weekend. Show Plan below. and just another Pine Road taster. 2019 28 Dec Open Day Plan Issue _2.pdf
  20. The SWMRC guys would like to thank Steve and his team for a very enjoyable weekend at Wincanton and look forward to exhibiting again with one of our other layouts in the future. Picture below shows all Poppy trains coming to standstill during the 11 o-clock two minute silence for remembrance on Sunday.
  21. Just a Taster After many years out of the limelight, don’t miss this first opportunity to see Colin Lockyer’s "Pine Road" again, now under the custodianship of a Wimborne club member. .
  22. The SouthWestern Model Railway Club looks forward to entertaining you all with its Tavis Yn Bogh dual gauge OO/009 Cornish Layout, with dual gauge crossover and running line.
  23. Here’s my take on SDJR 2P 40564, weathered, based on a picture in S&D in Colour on shed at Templecombe. Started life as a Hornby R3459TTS sound fitted 2P. Lamp Irons and LMS ModelU lamps waiting to fit ready for appearance on the Bournemouth West layout Templecombe service.
  24. Hi Jack I was lucky because on the TTS version none of the wires use the slotted appendage to route the wires between loco and tender so the loco body could be removed without having to cut the wires or remove the odd slotted appendage. If doing a none TTS model I think I would cut the wires and drill a hole in the keeper plate to reroute the loco wires and fit a micro plug between loco and tender. The tender already has an access hole just to the left of the draw bar that can be used to reroute the wires there if necessary. If doing that you could reduce the wiring from 6 to 4 wires by teeing together the loco front bogie and main wheel pickup wires within the loco body. I had planned to do that before realising the TTS model was different. I did it fact find I had to cut the wires going to the loco keeper plate wipers because I couldn’t get enough slack in them to pull the keeper plate away far enough from the chassis to remove the main wheels. I looked into a none traction tyre option and thought by buying a X6472 spare set of wheels it could be accomplished, but no. Hornby seem only to make the none traction tyre wheel with the balance weight, so you would end up with weights on both sets of wheels. Even then you would have to remove the wheels on one axle to re-quarter them. The pictures below shows the difference between the geared wheel on the model as supplied and the one from the X6472 Hornby spare set.
