Excellent progress, Martin. Useful to know about the channel from B&Q, I might meddle with servos myself. What's the circuit board on the left of photo 2 of post 79? Trev
Hi Martin. Pleased to see you getting on with the wiring with your usual care and logic. Even more pleased to hear that you've got heating again!! Trev
I seem to remember that Gem track had a fibre base which cockled in humid conditions causing wavy track. I may, of course, be confusing it with something else. I tried something like this in the early 70's and went back to Peco. Prototypical track is all well and good, but it needs to be reliable. Good running comes first in my opinion. Great if you can have both, though.
Hi Martin, It's looking really good, but if you don't resist the temptation to keep lengthening it you'll have to grant the shed an extension! Looking forward to seeing more. Even managed to get Gismo in the picture I notice. Trevor
Hi M, good to see you've started layout building again. It looks an interesting project with an intriguing track plan which I will follow with interest. Love the idea of the "T" extrusion. Trevor
I've just had my Atlas silver GP40-2 converted to Loksound by Kevin at Coastal DCC as recommended on this forum earlier this year, thanks Kevin, and I'm blown away by the full throttle and by the quality of the sound compared to MTH, QSI and Soundtraxx. There is NO comparison. I hope Kevin can convert the others as funds allow!
The Austerity is one of my favourite locos. I was brought up near Walkden Yard, west of Manchester, and my earliest memories of steam are the NCB Austerities and North Staffs New L's blasting up Walkden Bank with a rake of mineral wagons full of coal. There was a footbridge over the line just across the road from my grandmother's house where I spent many happy days in the school holidays. In later life this has led me to an appreciation of industrial locos.
Michael Delamar's photo of 50721 at Liverpool Exchange in posts 54 and 430 above show the only example I can find of this type of loco with the later BR emblem. Was it unique or were there others? Trevor
The decoder reference is X9659 and can be obtained from Hornby service agents. Type the reference into Google. I got mine from Peters Spares, but they're showing out of stock now, as are Hattons. Some shops are showing stock. Hope this helps, Trevor
Bought one on Saturday from DC Kits. The only one I could find in the entire show. Fortunately it was the one I wanted - the NCB one. Runs like a dream! I'd bought the Hornby 4pin chip in advance from Peters Spares and fitted it on Sunday and it still rund beautifully. Looking forward now to the article in the next Hornby magazine. I understand it will show how to fit sound. Trevor
Hi Paul. Will this project be avilable via Digitrains, please? I assume you used an MX648, hard wired. Can you confirm this, please, and say which speaker you used. I'd like to try this. Thanks, Trevor
