  1. Sir, I'll have you know you are looking at 23 HP of raw diesel power transmitted to all four wheels! (The dice usually hang from the anti-roll bar, but I have to take them off periodically so I can harvest the lichen. There seems to be a bit of demand for lichen from model railway punters in the UK. You'd think they would be able to grow their own,)
  2. Hope you at least enjoyed a bit of a giggle Tex. For some reason your post reminded me of the time Mickey Mouse divorced Minnie Mouse. Unfortunately, the court transcript is entirely unsuitable for publication on a family oriented site like RM. (Self-addressed stamped post cards only)
  3. You feel old! That was the year I married Mrs ID. (Mrs ID and I enjoy watching "Call the Midwife" because Mrs ID actually was a domiciliary midwife when we were married, except she didn't have to ride a bicyle. She went tootling off in the middle of the night (nitrous-oxide cylinder in hand) in our '68 VW.)
  4. More delightful Spring weather rolling in from the Pugwash Sound. The blue stuff is snow! I was hoping I might get a chance to push some of it around with the tractor before I take the snow blade off for the season, but no such luck. It's falling as sleet and rain at this level.
  5. Possibly, but I was really wondering if you were the author of "Advanced Math for Students", by Ed U Cayton
  6. Ed, please don't take this the wrong way, but I keep wondering if your middle name is Unger or something similar.
  7. Obviously, Tex was in the Diplomatic Service.
  8. Tried that, but it came back with 82.4
  9. So much for the warm weather! It was 28F here last night. Now, let me see, multiply by 9, divide by 5 and add 32..........(keys clicking)...........Sheesh! That can't be right. (Best work it out for yourselves.)
  10. They're asking for trouble. I'd be so busy Googling "PERYGL YMYL CHWAREL" that I'd probably walk right over the edge.
  11. TVs! Sacrilege! The Bull was one of the only original establishments in the town (I suppose they have to find ways to justify the outrageous price of the drink.) Gosh, I haven't been in the Bull for years. Not since the time I asked the manager if he knew how he could sell more beer. "How's that?" he said. "Fill the expletive glasses!"
  12. "Did you get off at Bridge Street?" was a Glasgow euphemism for something that would be highly inappropriate to discuss on this forum.
  13. It's quite possible. My mum was born a few days after the Titanic went down.
  14. I saw three eagles having a big fight yesterday. One was a mature bald eagle and the others were probably immature bald eagles. It's possible they were goldens, but that's unlikely. They were spiraling around and crossed the highway right in front of me, probably only 100 feet off the ground. It was too dangerous for me to stop suddenly, so I don't know how things concluded.
  15. While the dogs were walking me, I remembered another one about the G&SWR, although by this time it would be the early days of the LMS. My mother went to Glasgow Uni. She took the train up to Glasgow from Irvine every day. Coming back one evening, she managed to get on the wrong train. I can't remember if it was an Ardrossan train that went "the wrong way" at Kilwinning, or an Ayr train that failed to stop at Irvine, but when she realized what was going on, she panicked and yanked the cord! She was probably 18 or 19 at the time and grandpa was on pretty good terms with the station master at Irvine, so the whole thing was duly hushed up.
  16. Too much information! I'm not listening. La la la la la la la.
  17. FOA Jock My granny lived near the end of Waterside in Irvine. One of my childhood memories is going to bed in the back upstairs bedroom in the summer and watching the trains silhouetted by the setting sun as they rolled along the embankment after crossing the river. The image of the light being shuttered by the holes in disc wagon wheels behind a Jumbo (sorry!) is still quite vivid.
  18. There used to be a branch off the Largs line to Fairlie Pier. I was impressed that the trains could be supported on a lot of timber! You hopped off the train, and straight on to the pier to await the steamer for exotic destinations like Campbeltown (palm trees do grow there.)
  19. True, but only after the bright minds in the City Chambers decided there was no future in electric traction and replaced all the trams with internal combustion buses.
  20. Not quite in the same league, but Largs wasn't that bad either, until they had the wee accident.
  21. I have some old-fangled pictures of Wemyss Bay somewhere. If they turn up I can send you them (although relatives may be included in the shot.)
  22. Brilliant! Great shot of the "Heilanmon's Umbrella". They did a really nice job cleaning it up. It used to look like.... Shame about Wemyss Bay. It always struck me as an incredibly beautiful station.
  23. No no no! You were merely being economical with the truth. It's just another way of being ecologically correct. Your earthquake story reminded me of the time we actually did have an earthquake in the middle of the night, in Prestwick of all places. I remember thinking "who the heck is shaking the footboard of the bed like that?" My wife thought it was me! We've never actually gone into details about what she thought I was doing. Best to let sleeping dogs lie.
  24. RANT LOCK ENGAGED What's the !@#$%s the matter with these !@#$%^&g pillocks? http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/97918-frog-switch-for-copperclad-construction/ RANT LOCK DISENGAGED
