  1. Here are a couple more in B&W Just B&W And after changing the contrast and exposure
  2. Been doing a bit of photoshop in Media at school. While everyone else was doing other stuff, I taught myself how to insert a background into a photo. Here is the original photo, L1 67777 with an LMS porthole SK coach - And here is my rubbish attempt at photoshopping a grey background - "EDIT" - Ignore the two white vehicles in the background, they are Victorian Railways kits I was working on at the time.
  3. Thanks Andy If I was able to build layouts anywhere near as fast as you I'd be up to Mk15 at least I hope to get down to Brunel Hobbies, which is the only shop in Melbourne AFAIK that sell P4 and EM, and I'm planning to buy at least a length of P4 flex-track, and hopefully a replacement underframe for one or two things.
  4. Hi Quentin. In short, I have built 2 turnouts before, however both were using a template and some spare rail, I merely glued the rails on to wooden sleepers and made the frog and point blades myself, so they were not very good. I am currently building a P4 inspection-pit, and I have converted some rolling stock to EM as a half-way point. I am going to make a section of P4 and a section of EM track as soon as I have finished clearing up and finishing my Victorian Railways layout which is currently in my room. I also have diagrams for P4 turnouts, and I will have a go at one of those using Peco Code 75 rail and some spare sleepers from my previous 2 turnouts. I have seen the Scalefour Society, and I will definitely become a member, however I am a bit tight on cash at the moment having just purchased the last components for a small VR layout which I will finish tomorrow (hopefully). I will post some photos of the track I make when it's done, and hopefully that will be a better way to show everyone what stage I am at. I am in no way, shape or form a professional, however I have built a few bits of track by hand. Thanks for the suggestions and interest! Peter
  5. EDIT: Starting fresh (again). See Post 195. Track plan finally decided on, and construction started, after over a year of planning and procrastinating. Some of you may have followed the progress on my old thread, on the OO version of Dunoon. Dunoon Mk6, the new P4 version, is going to be a replacement. The original OO boards for Dunoon have been put in the shed, and will either be torn up or get majorly revitalised at a far later date. I have taken a number of considerations into the design of the new Dunoon. 1 - Minimum radius of 110cm. I have managed this on the track plan. 2 - Minimum point size of B6. I have a mix of B6 and B7 turnouts, a B6 double-slip, 2 B7 double-slips, and the 3-way turnouts are L6R8, so the left-hand line is #6 and the right-hand line is #8. 3 - A minimum of 6 coaches in the main platforms. Platforms 2 and 4 fit 6 coaches, and Platform 3 fits 7. These are coaches and a loco by the way, so I can fit 2 6-coach trains and a 7 coach train. The dock platform will fit a 2 car DMU, or 2 Mk1 coaches. The line extending out from the dock platform fits 4 coaches. 4 - At least 5 goods sidings. One issue with the original Dunoon is I only had 3 goods-sidings, and 1 of these was only long enough to fit a couple of wagons. In the new one, I have storage capacity for 48 wagons and 4 50' parcel vans, over 6 goods sidings. 5 - A more realistic turntable. I have put in a 60' turntable. There is a 70' turntable just up the line at Dunoon Shed (65L), however Dunoon MPD and Dunoon North are not currently going to be modelled. I will put the track plans in for Dunoon North and Dunoon MPD in the next post. I have dismantled my A4, which will become 60012 Commonwealth of Australia, in preperation for conversion to P4. I have also temporarily converted my Hawksworth BSK, Stanier 50' parcels van, and a Dapol gunpowder wagon to EM, while I save up for more suitable P4 underframes/bogies. I am also on the lookout for new parts for my L1, which needs desperate attention (New screws, and the old linkage has been broken so I need new linkage) however for now the A4 and rolling stock takes priority. I have started construction of an inspection pit in P4, from the free kit available from scalescenes.com I plan to build the buildings, convert my existing rolling stock, and then start on track, baseboards etc. This way I will have all available space to work, instead of the layout room being cluttered with loco and wagon parts and building components. One problem with Dunoon Mk1-5 was that I did all the buildings at once, and lost numerous components. A lot of buildings also got damaged as I was constantly editing the trackplan. My next post will include the main Dunoon track plans, as well as my written history of the line. It will be a heavily edited version of the original Dunoon Origin Story as written on the Dunoon Mk1-5 thread. For now, here is a basic track-plan of Dunoon Mk6. All track is C&L Finescale P4 trackwork. Let me know what you think!
  6. Just finished reading post #1000... Still got 9554 to go So far (And I'm just past 20 December 2011 when you got the station installed) it looks absolutely bloody marvelous!! It's hard to tell it's OO, I keep thinking I've accidentally switched tabs to a P4 layout Keep up the good work! Now... Time to get back to Page 41 and continue reading! All the best, Peter
  7. And I have once again gone through this thread. It was about November last year that I last went through it. It's looking great! This is tempting me to do my own EM or P4 layout however I only have 7x5m to work with so I doubt I can fit as much in as you. I also have very limited (understatement) skills with TEMPLOT and it's turning out to be a pain in the arse! Keep up the good work and I look forward to an update.
  8. Is there anywhere I could get a full trackplan? The Ordnance Survey isn't very good, I'm going to take it and try and fix it up to make it a trackplan. Thanks for the info though
  9. Any progress updates? I'm looking to build Aviemore in 3mm/ft (14.2mm gauge) and seeing photos off this and the OO scale version look very good. Also does anyone have photos of Aviemore from the 1950s to the 1960s? I'm going off the trackplan posted on the previous page.
  10. Incredible! I turn my back for a couple of weeks, and come back to this!!! Gives me the inspiration to do work on Dunoon! Love the track weathering and the flocking looks great. Keep up the good work!
  11. LSD??? I had no idea this was set in WWII!! Landing Ship Dock for people who have no idea what im talking about They are also called Dock Landing Ships Peter
  12. Peter - I think the phrase here is 'I plead guilty as charged' Tell you what though, the look on the teachers face was HILARIOUS!!!
  13. yes I also need a Sound 08 - but in BR Green not blue! I am also saving up to get DCC Sound for my Hornby L1 and the Bachmann 128
  14. Hello again Bodge! Well well well. Finish reading WS, and come to find another layout thread WITH 17 PAGES Ah well, it is a much better use of Maths and PE class How do the Bachmann 43's run? I am thinking about getting a couple in Maroon and maybe one in Green for Dunoon - It has now been dated between August 15 1958 and August 15 1962! Yes, I know. Very specific And the 21 is good too - I know Glasgow Eastleigh was allocated one in the late 50's, I think mid 58, so will be able to pass a couple off! Also HAVE to get a Heljian 16 and 23 Looks amazing and keep up the FLOCKING! The Doctor (peter) *hat* *coat* *runs for door* 'Right fellas im outta here!'
  15. Also, RE the crane In around 2000? or so, Hornby did a red version of their current crane. Looking at the photo on page 32, it looks very similar to the Hornby model. The Hornby model, modified and superdetailed (of course) would quite possibly do the trick, and would certainly be an interesting piece of rolling stock to do! The Doctor (peter)
  16. Thanks for that picture Polly! Now to figure out where to put the Daleks on Dunoon. I am going to have a TARDIS, probably on the station platform or thereabouts, but the Daleks boarding a bus would be hilarious! Probably have the 6th Doctor, got to stand out!
  17. Looks amazing! Surprise surprise. A month of RMWEB and Bodgit has already got 2 new layouts! Now, if only I was able to move that quickly with Dunoon..... Keep up the good work! And George - The buildings look amazing great work! The Doctor (peter)
  18. Just had another catch up, it looks better every time you post more pics! Sadly Dunoon isnt coming along as quickly as your layout, and I am yet to post more photos on the thread, and methinks that I have been spending too much time modifying rolling stock - i have done the following - Removed the valancing from a Hornby A4 Repainted a Hornby A4 Made a static Dapol 4MT Built 5 Victorian Railways wagons for a friend Modified and detailed (mostly) an old Bachmann LMS coach which is becoming a BR Maroon coach Putting a lay-by on the Hornby twin-tender Bittern etc Work on the layout - Relaying some track You are getting way more actual work done than me! Good job and keep it up Peter
  19. Hi Neil Just gone through the thread. Great job, it looks amazing. Keep up the good work! Peter
  20. I have had the same problem with PVA on Dunoon. I am leaving it in place however, as it will be covered by weathering when i get around to ballasting. An alternative is just to keep it as is, as I find it actually dulls the look of the rails and makes it look a lot better than the shiny rails. Undoubtedly you will at some stage be/need to weather the rails, as would be appropriate for a mid 60s siding, so that will cover it up later. Hope this helps Peter EDIT - For the top of the rails, I just used 240 grit sandpaper, which cleaned it off in a couple of passes, leaving the rail tops as shiny as brand new track.
  21. Hi Quentin, Looks great! I may even end up doing one of these (inglenook's) when Dunoon is finished, so I can practice hand-laying track - while it is nice and easy to use Peco code 75 Finescale track, it isn't quite as good as the handlaid stuff! Do you have a specific period for the layout, or is there no specific period. Also, I must ask, what is a large Pacific such as Mallard doing on what is seemingly a small branchline? As always Rule 1 applies - it is your layout and you can run whatever the heck you want to - but I do think it looks slightly out of place. Keep up the good work! Peter
  22. Hi Andy, Looking good! Would the Buckingham Branch be the same one that is spoken about in The Encyclopedia of Model Railways? I have got the book from my late grandfather, and the image of the branch in this thread looks very similar, however in my book it is a lot more crude in terms of scenery, there is no ballast and the track is very bulky from the photos in TEMR. Also, IIRC you asked about Kadee couplers. I use them, with all my stock, and as each new item gets purchased for Dunoon, a new set of KD couplers is purchased as well. I fit my loco's with number 19's, and other stock with number 18's. Also, have you had a look at the Hornby Hawksworth coaches? They look great and would go nicely on this GWR line. The layout looks great, but hang on a minute... WOT!!! NO BR STUFF? Haha Seriously though, it looks AMAZING!!! and I can't wait to see more of it in the future. Peter 'If it ain't in BR Blue, early green or black, it ain't a loco'
  23. I have absolutely no idea what plasticard is, but here down under we have A4 textured sheets of styrene (plastic) for $2 or 1 pound a sheet.very flexible and easy to work with, and just requires weathering Peter
  24. Hi Duncan, Looking great! Just an idea for the military area, maybe an Airfix ME109 or a Junkers 88 that has been shot down and is being dissasembled, with various damaged parts, and maybe a shot down Spitfire that is being repaired. While the Airfix kits are 1:72, I have found they are good matches for OO. Even though it isnt my era/region, I can't wait to see some baseboards constructed and some track down. Personally I think that handlaid track looks a lot better than Peco, with over 18 metres of track to lay on Dunoon, 2 3 way turnouts, 2 double slips and a whole ton more of standard points I just do not have the time, especially as modeling time per week comes to half saturday half sunday and an hour each evening. Therefore I am using Peco code 75 all the way through the layout. So far in 3 weeks I have gone from a soft copy track plan to track down and wiring started. I think that it is great that you are scratchbuilding the buildings, however I would reccomend not trying to go to far, start with smaller items such as lineside huts or coal staithes, as it is very easy to get carried away. Look forward to seeing more progress. Peter
  25. Congratulations on getting it into the magazine! Will have to try and get one if it makes its way down to the bottom of Down Under!!! Seriously though, looking great, and its good to know that I am not one of the only 2 teen modelers using this site!!! I think that given it is an Inglenook, considering Kadee's and delayed uncoupling would be something to consider - I am going to use it for my layout Dunoon and it also enables a lot closer coupling - KD #18's couple my Hornby Mk1's so close to each other that it is hard to see the gap between the gangways when it is on a straight! Peter
