  1. I have a book by MJT Lewis on the Pentewan published by DB Barton Truro in 1960. There is no mention of livery in the loco details, but the one coach was 'brown'. The one photo of coach and loco in the book (source L&GRP), in B&W, seems to indicate a similar shade.

You could always drop an email to Twelveheads Press (later publisher of the Lewis book) to ask.

  2. To add to Phil's comments in #76 about Naval Dockyards.  Devonport Dockyard has rail tracks set into the main road through the site, which are in active use in connection with submarine refits. The two Clayton industrial diesels haul various specialist wagons across the system.  Admittedly not public, but quite heavily trafficed roads.

  3. Some suggestions...

The High Moorland Visitor Centre (I think thats its name) in Princetown might have something. I appreciate you are not well placed to visit!

Also have a look at the old OS on NLS or Oldmaps where layouts can be seen.

Twelveheads Press have published some books on life on the moor with images, but I don't know if the quarries feature.

    Cheers

  4. At noon today I observed a trailer with the upper part of the footbridge parked up in the A38 westbound layby on the Devon side of the Tamar Bridge.. Anyone know where it's headed? Seemed odd that it was on this side of the road!

  6. Great British Railway Journeys TV Programme

Royal Albert Bridge is to appear in the current series on Friday 15th January screening at 1830 on BBC2.  Any positive feedback about the "expert" interviewed can be posted here;  anything negative can go to the programme makers telling them to chose better in future!

    Enjoy (I Hope!)

  7. Well, yesterday actually.

Michael Portillo is out & about in Cornwall filming for a new Great British Railway Journeys.  Yesterday at Saltash, where some know-it-all was pontificating about the bridge.  Transmission is said to be end of January, I was told (woops, given away the ID of the smart a***e!), so there is plenty of time for you to have forgotten and I can slink away unseen.
