    If you mean on the sides, I can’t imagine the handles will be an issue, but if they are I could shuffle the boxes over a fraction on the chassis.

    If you mean on the ends, there’s only handles on the container where you can see the doors, but that’s a secret so don’t tell anyone. :wink_mini:
    (There is a slight gap between the boxes, but you can’t see that the handles are missing.)

    sorry Phil, was referring to the normal end doors, didn’t know if they projected too far making the 3 containers too long but don’t worry your secret is safe!

  2. Well I’m still off work and terrible at updating this! 
     

    Got the up and down lines (front two), double slip and 2 medium points off this and siding laid.

     

    After some umms and ahh’s I’ve been progressing slowly. Decided to swap the dept side over. Don’t know why but really wanted to use a 3-way point. Been playing with spacing of the main two dept roads. Top left and next road down will be inspection pits.

    After a recommendation from my uncle cut up a cereal box to template what the dept building would be like size way. The lines with the 66 & 68 will be inspection pit lines. The 57/3 is going to be a semi-covered area - wanted to use the Crewe Gresty bridge kit available but don’t think I’ve got space for it.

    base board joints with C&L copper clad sleepers. Will trim them to suit later.

    Tiny little fiddly bits but seem to have worked out well by soldering it with the rails fitted in the points already. One on the angle will be fun!

    Think I’ve got the plans now, just need to crack on with it which hopefully I can now the weather has cooled off slightly.

    I put them in a plastic box after applying the top coat of varnish, then promptly dropped it on the garage floor. :angry:

    The (luckily!!) slightly damaged paintwork on some corners has been touched in.

    Hopefully get the locking bars on tomorrow, if I don't try juggling with them again !

     Looking really good Phil. Suspect I’ll be buying a triplet soon after seeing your handy work.
     

    Are the side doors on one side only or both? Decals look really good, are they the ones from Precision?

  4. Been having bit of a planning session this afternoon- my head hurts now! 
     

    First idea was OK. It felt like everything was pushed to one side.

    Second go went a bit better and gave me more of a head shunt for working my way across but felt the siding opposite would be the alternative headshunt the other end. Ignore the one section of inspection pit, forgot to remove it before taking the photo.

    The idea of a double main line is appealing to me now especially if I ever wanted to take it to an exhibition (when every they are likely to happen again - Warely:fool_mini2:?) - a big if and years down the line. 
     

    Or if I wanted more TMD space go back to single line for the TMD and have a separate bolt on front of non- connected twin main lines? Dunno just thinking out loud thank you for listening! :D

     

    Knowing my luck it’ll be time to go back to work once I make my mind up and make a start <_< And would of gone back to the original plans!

    I was going to have a small length off scene to allow for handling swapping over etc, quite like your plan I have to admit. I wanted to use the SL-90 as I had it in stock and liked the idea of a headshunt section albeit a small one. I’ll have another play laying stuff down. 
     

    the mix of insul and electro is probably me selecting the wrong points from the library, all ordered and used will be electro-frog apart from the SL-90.

     

    what rail software did you use to creat that plan?

     

     

    Thinking I’ll reduce the left hand sidings for more Scencis at the moment.

  6. Afternoon All, 

     

    Been considering doing a small(ish) TMD layout for a while now since I took down my roundy roundy layout a few years ago (just track and a shed load of sidings) and wanted to do something proper with electro-frog points and the current situation has allowed me to do this. 
     

    This is a fictitious TMD based in Hampshire near Petersfield off a single branch line servicing as a DRS hub in the south - possibly with a wagon repair part - tbc. The name may change, fancied furlough TMD or Corona Dept but didn’t seem to sit right
     

    The layout will be DCC controlled with probably the points also. DCC control system I have is the Gaugemaster Prodigy Advance 2. All track is PECO code 100. 

    I'm using 2x 900x450mm w base boards from White Rose Model Works which are now assembled with butterfly/suitcase latches fitted and alignment dowels fitted. The top has been covered with 1mm cork as a modelling base. There won’t be a back scene due to the layouts proposed position being near a sloped ceiling.

    Below is the latest design done in anyrail. Main Branchline running along the bottom, 3 sidings up the left then the shed with concrete hard standing and inspection pits with a head shunt top right. Running parallel to the main will be a security fence in line with the catch point (SL-84). The 4 top left sidings with fuel point I’m undecided on at the moment, might shorten or remove the top left altogether, this would probably be some sort of wagon repair area also - still to be confirmed. The red line up the middle shows the board joint. Will most likely add a short off scene bit to the left to allow loco access, long term and space depending a traverser.

    Had an initial layout of the points and inspection pits, where I decided the small radius points. Had didn’t look right so have managed to source the additional mediums needed to suit the above plan.  Once these arrive I’ll get cracking certainly with the right hand board and bottom left board.

    I’m toying with the idea of re-spacing all the flexi track to make it a bit more prototypical as Richard at Everard junction has done but not sure how well it’ll look next to the un-modified points.

     

    Currently planning to solder the dropper wires for the sides of the rails once I’m happy with the geometry more for ease than anything at the moment.

     

    Looks very much track all over the place but think I’d prefer that for more operational interest than anything.

     

    Not sure on shed and other buildings yet, tempted to scratch build the shed and maybe get the railway laser lines Crewe Gresty bridge shed they do but not sure where to put that yet. 
     

    Feel free to comment with any tips and tricks for this new layout modeller.

A DRS 88 would be a fantastic option (personally) given they are already doing the design work for the pantograph systems should they wish to include the operation aspect as they are on the 92 and they must have a relationship with DRS to model their liveries - as would Dapol? It would also tie in nicely with the PFA's.

     

    Downside to the 88 is that its potentially a small(ish) market pull only being 10no prototypes and in one livery unlike the 37's.

     

    KXA's could be another interesting announcement given the KUA's & PFA's. 

     

    What ever they announce I'm sure will be of superior quality and market appeal.

    Buffers should be glued in with a small bit around the shank where it inserts into the frame. They may have missed that one.

  9. First order from Accurascale received, definitely won’t be the last though! These are fantastic detailed little wagons, really raised the standard bar! Just need a layout now!

     

    Couple of questions Accurascale:

    Is it correct that the container frames on the nuclear wagons are loose and not glued? 
    In one pack I found a buffer assembly had popped out, it’s popped back in with very little effort no problem but should they be glued of just held with friction? 
     

    Other than that brilliant little models and look forward to shunting them about.

  10. Merry Christmas all!

     

    I've been allowed to ‘open’ my order of 66429 DCC fitted today - didn’t last long in the wrapping paper. 
     

    What a fantastic model, great detail, crisp livery and weight - had to read the manual a couple of times re function control and yes will need to re-program F2 as I use a gauge master prodigy advance 2. Just running it in now, yes I have a slight wobble on the rolling road which hopefully will settle while running in as others have said. Other than the wobble, 1 slightly off centre axle and a couple little bits of the wheel paint missing, really cannot fault this model.

     

    Unless I’m being blind after all the chocolate and Christmas dinner, I couldn’t see anywhere about running in time for the loco in so assuming an hour in each direction? If it even needs one? :scratch_one-s_head_mini:


    Just need to build a layout (TMD) for it and all the others I have ticked away in the draw!

At the end of the day, the model from what I’ve seen in the photos and at Warley looks fantastic and highly detailed. Hats off to the Hattons team for getting 2 of the 3 control option pre-orders flown in (at no additional cost to us) processed and at least shipped with a decent chance of getting them to the customers by Christmas! 

     

    I suspect paint shades is probably one of the hardest things to get right and checked in the development stages over the actual engineering given monitors resolution, quality, lighting conditions etc etc that has been mentioned before.

    Joking aside I've accepted I wont be receiving my two in time for Christmas now so have treated myself to a pair of Bachmann 37/7's instead :) Will look forward to getting them in the New Year at some point.
