  1. As its been raining here down on the the south coast in England the 1st real down pour we have had in months . its a good reason to get on with the painting of the loco I have used raw umber and bit of black to give it a key coat for the rust effect .
  2. Hi all . after the miss hap with the driver not being able to fit back in the cab . i just about managed to extract the control pannel that was the cause of the problem with out have ing to destroy bits of the cab . a much simple replacement was made . there is not a lot of room in there so was not worth going to town on detail as you can not see much when the driver is sitting in the cab . the loco now has the cab roof fitted and whole loco was given a good spray of primer .The driver which i have named vernon . after a mate of mine who looks very similar I did ask him 1st and he didn't mind . The next stage will be to make a start on weather ing the loco . I want to give it a real worn out on its last legs or should I say on its last wheels look peeling faded and rust showing . so ile post some more pics soon .
  3. Thanks luke ime glad you like the layouts . i am glad now i decided to give this project another go . i made up some more control levers etc for the cab . . only to find i could not get the driver back in his seat so this eve i had to cut a way what i had made and have a re think . hope by this weekend to have a few more pics . and yes I do have a small layout planned
  4. Hi all a few weeks ago i was on the verge of starting a new small micro layout in on30 . i had all ready got a few bits up together .and had scratched out many plans of what i wanted . then like most of us . the idear just fizzeled out so . un till the urge returns i had a look through some of the other projects i had started that allso came to nothing . i did find wrapped up in a box a small loco i had began . i got interested in 7/8ths narrow gauge some time back but its much to lage for any space i have be ing mainly garden size . but not be ing putt of by this i found there were people out there . that have the answer ., use ing my 7/8ths figure i could try running on 16.5 mm track bit like gn 15 and people do G9 so I made a good start to finish the loco off excellent spraying weather out there to day so its had a coat of primer The excellent figurer comes from si harris at model earth . next stage will be to make up a roof .
  5. I have just looked up clogher valley railway and see what you mean . thank you . I do like the look of them . I have in mind some think of a small Australian come colonial Mexican sort of layout bit of a mix I know . real basic buildings wooden platform with a corrougated shelter and a goods platform with a grounded box van as storage shed . no more than 2 points and over grown track if you get the picture
  6. Hi all have ing made a return to narrow gauge in on30 and not having much stock . one thing I did need was a small coach in my scrap box I had 2 Bachmann on30 tram cars in bits . which after finding a old tender under frame I set about making a start hopefully the following pictures show what I came up with .
  7. Good point sussex south coast Eastbourne
  8. Hi all like most modellers I am all ways thinking a head to the next project . well the other eve . after a bit off switching on my micro layout . I had to admit to my self I think I have gone as far as I am going with this project . a strong pull to have another go in on30 will be next so before it goes on E BAY if there is any one that is looking for a small micro layout its up for grabs . I am open to offers . I would like to sell as a job lot with 3 locos . It will have to be buyer collect only so no post sorry .the layout is all ready just add your own controller and stock etc any ? you may have please ask . thanks
  9. hi steve I have hunted about for that cd with my old pics of the grain layout and can not find it any where . I never had a name for the layout but I think the new owner called it broken creek . I didn't have much rolling stock when I ran it . but the owner now runs some really nice stock and switchers on it when I saw it at uckfield expo
  10. hi steve I do have a CD with photos on it some where I will have a hunt around . the two photos there were taken at the uckfield 2017 show I think . it had been in new owner ship for some time then
  11. hi Wendell this is only my 2nd go at American ho I have to putt my hands up to your ? I am not really sure what part of the states I have set it in. this is a pic of my 1st layout based around a grain elevator . I sold this on and really miss it but came across it at a local expo the new owner has added his own touch to the layout but it was good to see it again.
  12. Big thanks guys for all the coments , both switchers have arrived in the yard long view from under the bridge in to the yard
  13. HI short liner no problem layout is 83 cm long by 37cm wide . the traverser is 44 cm long by21cm wide and has a over hang of 10cm hope that is of use .
  14. Hi all been some time since my last post . the layout is more or less near finished just the odd bit of greenery to add as I go and a few people would not go a miss . the GE 45 ton loco has had a make over from brand new red to a worn out blue with rust showing I wanted it to have a had a hard working life look . I also removed the foot boards front and rear. and one job I have at last got round to was make ing up some kind of barrier for the end of the traverser in the fiddle yard before there was a accident with a run a way
  15. Tanks steve i did have another look At the 70 tonner yester day might add a few more streaks yet . been working out what switching i can get a way with . as it is limitted size of the layout i have been use ing 2 locos . one to bring in freight cars the other to switch the small yard . i can juggle about 4 cars comfortably but if i add another 2 uncouple ing magnets i might even get 5 cars on the move hold ing one car back on the traverser . any way by have ing a change in rolling stock and different locos it stops the boredom
  16. thanks to them photos Daniel I gave the 70 tonner the extra grime treatment .bit more to do in places but fun to do
  17. Nice one Daniel see ing them pictures makes me feel a whole lot better with my effort . and excellent refferance pictures to . i might even add a few extra rust spots to mine
  18. Well we have had some real warm weather here in southern england this week end . so i have had a crack at some out door weather ing its been some time since i used my old air brush 1st off the GE 70 ton switcher . I started by remove ing the Bethlehem steel co decal's from the sides with nail varnish remover . next mix up a grime mix and blow a coat over . I think I got carried a way with this as its come out a bit on the heavy side . so I have since removed some with acrylic thinners . all so the covered hoppers got a coat as well . not sure if I am happy at the moment with any of it but I can sit back and think bits of dry brushing and washes might help.
  19. A few pics of my GE70 ton loco arive ing with some covered hoppers . over the week end I hope to get some of my stock weathered so it all starts to blend in . the cement silo could be for bulk powders etc
  20. Hi prof yes to the left the layout exits on to a 3 track traverser which runs on small draw runners so its nice and smooth
  21. Thanks for the coments daniel glad you like it ,. yes jack the crane is very british . it will fill a gap till may be i can come across some think more american looking . as its a very small size layout i have stuck to small switchers i have a GE 45 ton +aGE70 ton and a 44 ton as well . ile load up some more pics over the week end .
  22. Thanks john one quick change was the tool store shed just swapped the BR box van for a cutt and shut freight car and the stone retain ing walls had concrete over lays made
  23. Hi all some time back I started building a small micro layout 'based around a british cement plant with a silo etc . having had next to no rolling stock and locos as every think went with the sale of my last layout . I had to start again . not much came of this and soon I found a strong pull towards American stock agin so have ing had a good think on this . why not do a make over with what I have . so over last few weeks I have been bizzy make a few changes to try and get a look that I was happy with .
  24. thanks richard ile give that a try . i had putt the same decoder tts class 31 in one of my irish locos class 141 and it was fine .even tho its the total wrong engine type it kind of didnt sound out of place and the tts decoders are a hell of a lot cheaper than other makes
  25. hi just read through this topic with interest . just for the fun of it i tried fitting a TTS CLASS 31 DECODER in a atlas sw 1500 . just to give the loco a bit of sound but it didnt like it at all run very jerky shame really as ithought i was on to a winner for some cheap sound .
