thanks for your comments chaps ile be glad when I get some of the scenic work done like the grass and the bare black patch will be a small coal yard of some kind .have ing changed from the original idea of a shell island look alike . to cement and coal one its kind of make it up as i go along . all so i have only a small amount of rolling stock as every think went with my old layout when i sold it . so its a slow process. as i like uk and irish stock

no problem steve . yes seeing how other people build there layouts has helped me solve a good few problems . ive just been looking at your post regarding micro switches . I got in to a right mess with mine . I was use ing a rod to operate my point and a peco micro switch . I wired it as shown but ended up with loco stopping dead on point and shorts what looked so simple turned into huge disappointment .in fact I took it all out and just use the point as it comes . now seeing your post ile have another go .

hi Alex . I built the traverser use ing small draw runners from screw fix . hope the picture shows how it goes together . I saw the idea a good few years ago . it works nice and smooth .

hi steve i used the backscene from gauge master they do some good sky clouds ones you get 3-4 in a tube think they do them in different sizes . the one i used was 13 and a half ins or 34 cm in height so that set the backscene hight for the layout it was a 1st for me as normaly i paint mine i used a spray glue to fix it but should have used more glue as i had to re stick bits of it again . yes the curved backscene was a bit of a fight to get right I use hard board and brace the back

yes your right there I will have to give the 1st version another bash . I all ways regret parting with the original layout . it shouldn't take to long to finish this one I am on now I have kept the goods shed from the mark 2 version

hi all . like most people we get a plan in our minds of a layout we like to do . even make a start then for no reason . you can just loose the will . that happened to me . I had wanted to do a micro version based on Neil rushby's shell island . have ing all ready had a bash at one before . but I just couldn't get the atmosphere in such a small space that I wanted . so I filled in the slipway . and now it will be a micro cement terminal here is a pic of what progress I have made so far

yes of course your right . from now on ile start a thread probably where ive just started on this forum and not think ing on gone babble ing on my own planet

the only real building on the layout is the goods shed . i did look around to see what I could find in the ready built market like Bachmann or Hornby but all were to big wrong shape , so looking in my scrap box I have used a Hornby platform section and bit of a Hornby station roof and slaters corogated sheets. I wanted to keep the whole building as simple as possible and quick to put together a bit of cutting to the platform to make a loading bay for transfer to lorry's etc when it came to painting I did start off going for a faded black and green doors look but changed it to good old grey and bits of rust . there is still some dry brushing to do but I will do this when the building is fixed in its final setting .

hi all just started on a mock up or muck up on a mk2 micro shell island flavoured type layout my 1st attempt now long gone and missed . I have changed the track plan this time to get it even smaller . I like to try and see how every think will look before cutting any timber or base boards , as I can move buildings around etc . I have kept the goods shed and same slip way as on my other attempt . like a lot of people when I 1st saw neil's shell island layout . I just had to have a go my self . I will be running british stock and some irish stock
-
yes I to had a fare bit of problems with the uncoupler magnets on my last layout . I use Kadee magnets but because of the short sideings the only way I could get the wagons to uncouple was to cut the magnets in half and it seemed to work . one of my habbits is I tend to switch about between different . scales . narrow gauge and back to starndard gauge oo after complete ing a layout I then tend to sell it on to fund another project and most of the rolling stock goes as well . so now I have to re build up my oo stock . hence the micro layouts not much stock needed .

not to worrie mark i did try again but no luck couldn't get passed the topic locked sign in bit

Hi neil there are a good few pictures of your shell island layout but i have only seen one over all view . that was in the railway modler augst 203 do you have any more show ing it in its full extent .thanks kevin
-
Thanks neil glad you approve , yes craggy Island would not be a bad name if i do a MK2 version especialy if i stick to irish stock again . love the other pictures you putt on you can almost here that class 24 ticking over . mixed in with the lapping of the water on the slip way and the sea gulls of course in the back ground . shell ilsland ouzes atmosphere.
-
o yes I should say that . I added a small way side hault for some think like a small rail car . 121 class or Heljan park royal . just for summer traffic to the beaches near by . my idear was that the branch line was owned by the MOD ,and the goods shed was a transfer point for the near by fire ing ranges used a few times a year,
-
hi neil . i havent done any posts on this site . but all ways been inspired by your shell lsland layout . ever since i 1st came across it in the railway modeller and it was only the other day when going through some of my own pictures i found some of my attemp hope you doint mind as its a bit of a copy track and idea wise , shame was i sold it on and regretted it i didnt save many pics but thought you might like a look . i built it to run BR stock and IRISH stock and it dus not show much of the slip way and 2 of the pics are pre grass etc cheers kevin
