  1. thanks steve glad you like the 08 it turned out better than i thought it would only slight disopointment with it is that it runs better in reverse than forward which is a bit of a let down . at the moment i am running the layout on DC as i have yet to convert locos to DCC . i am use ing a gauge master combi . one thing i have found a bit strange going back to DC . is that even tho i have a something like a brand new run in EFE j94 it dus not run as well on DC as one of my old Hornby j4 which really crawls along .
  2. Hi Jim thank you for the kind offer . but ime down in sussex so doint worry . i do like the idea of that phone tri pod it would make takeing pics much more easy . so i will look in to that.
  3. H i Jim thanks thats hi praise indeed . i am really amazed how many people have said they like this little layout . when i think back how it got completely demolished 1st time round but lucky the 2nd re build was more sucsessfull . i did have a look at Ian holmes e mag it dus look very good so i will look in to that but ime not that good on a PC with up loading things so i will see how it goes .
  4. Thanks Wren ime glad you like it . i have had this 08 just sitting around and wanted to do some thing of a repaint with it . it was a easy job grey primmer and halfords yellow primmer . i really enjoy weather ing all my locos . but find some times its hard to know when to stop and not over do things
  5. Well i have now finished my NCB 08 glazeing back in the cab and given a good grimeing over . there are hand rails missing here and there but ime not to worried i will get round to replaceing them at some point . a good clean up on the wheels and its running not to bad . i have a Heljan 07 that may get the same treatment soon
  6. Hi all just a small side project i started last week . i have a Bachmann green 08 shunter its been sitting around in its box since i brought it off E bay some time ago some of the grab rails on the loco body were broken and i just didnt get round to fixing them . so i thought about doing something with it . i have seen that the NCB did have some 08 or 09 shunters of there own some in a dark blue with red buffer beams some were part yellow and blue . but i have not seen any or know of any in a overall ncb yellow so i have come up with my own take on it . halfords yellow primer looked a good match for what i was looking for . i had some ncb transfers from planet industrials and got to work and this is what its looking like so far . there is still masking tape in the cab as i have yet to do some weather ing and the body shell is just resting on the chassi at the moment .
  7. Thanks Nobby out of the 3 micro layouts i have built this one is my favorite .
  8. Another j94 has been loaned for shunting as motive power is low looks like its in a clean condition it woint stay like it for long
  9. thinking back i 1st saw this resin van body in a old issue of narrow gauge & industrial railway modelling review and it was based on something thats been patched up . but what number issue i can not remenber
  10. Big thanks to all the likes i am so glad to have blown off the dust on this layout again in fact its given me the kick start i needed to get some more stock wagon wise i have just ordered some 16ton minerail wagons which i am really short of . which will probbly help with shunting wise as space is very tight as in the length of side ings .
  11. Thanks Od glad you like it . the layout has been tucked away for ages but i had kept looking at it thinking neeed to have a running session . as i had brought one of the EFE j94 no 19 just before the layout went in to storage as other projects had been started . At the moment i am just running it on DC performance on this loco is not brilliant on DC and strang enough the old Hornby j94 rosalyn runs really good . Just goes to show that even tho the EFE loco cost much more pay ing that bit extra woint all ways bring good performance . later on i will start running on DCC again but i remenber i had problems with this so the fitting of stay alives will be the order of the day .
  12. steam is still just about hanging on at kenwards colliery there is still a few J94 tanks working NCB number 19 is seen and J94 rosalyn in a bit off a sorry condition is seen shunting . well any excuse to get this layout out the cupbard and running again . hope you like the pics .
  13. sorry for delay in reply . thanks for the info chaps ime sure the picture i sent is of a one piece resin moulded type with the brick pilliars as part of it . thanks barnaby the skytrex one is dam near spot on wich i could easely addapt . i have a o gauge micro coal yard layout in the planning and am trying to get a few bits up together before i start . allso do anybody know of kits for o gauge indurstial fule diesel tanks and water tanks the types used in collierys etc any info or tips that people have scratch built there own pics etc would be most apprecated thank you . i will be starting a build thread soon .
  14. Hi can any one tell me if they know who makes this kit and if by any chance it is still avaibale its 7 mm scale and i belive its been around for some time , any help please thanks . sorry if this should have gone in another section
  15. thanks Kirley . considering that nearly all the buildings came from my original layout it was a case of what i could squeeze in to a boxfile
  16. Hi all i originally intended my micro layout to be based around a cornish china clay works but as normal with me my interest in other regions creeps in and as a result i am now back in to irish railways so i have decided that it will have to adapt to all my needs so i thought on the lines of a come Fertiliser come gypsum and pos cement theam if that makes sence . i have just recived my batch of irish railway models hopper wagons and i have to say they are excellent and a pack 8x pallets of bagged fertiliser from the same seller . i was hope ing 2 get some cement bubbles but all gone and same with the fertiliser wagons . so ile just have to be patient any way hope you like progress so far . there is still work to be done . more pics to follow .
  17. just found this one shows the track plan better
  18. Thanks Kirley kind of you to say that . over the last few years ive mainly only built small or micro layouts as any thing longer than 3-4 feet i end up never finishing . i may have another go at a layout i did build some time ago iit was based on a side ing that run to a off loading shed for some military fire ing ranges set on the edge of marsh land. here is a couple of pics
  19. Thanks pat glad you like it i think they look more the part when weathered
  20. Thanks Ian glad you like it i still have a good bit of work to do like with the silo and pipe ing etc
  21. Hi all it was some time a go that i placed a few pics of my 141 loco on a layout project that i was building at the time . well in the end the layout got scrapped but i did save all the buildings and it got recycled in to box file so even tho it looks more or less the same its shrunk but the same loco have ing ( pretend ) been in traffic for a number of years is now in a sorry state but still rumberling on hope you like it
  22. this shows the concrete infill after a coat of grey primmer, and all glued back down . . one thing i did remenber from other layouts i had built when doing concrete inlays . is to check by running a loco to make sure all runs smoothly at most stages . next i gave the concrete a couple of washes of greys and whites . till i had the look i was looking for . then to add a touch of shaddo i finished off with weathering powders use ing white and grey and a hint of dark earth . all blendid or smudged with my finger . i even the ECC landrover has had a tone ing down .
  23. Hi all bit of a up date on my recycle project. one of the things i did need to tackel was the concrete infill . all i did was use some off cuts of cardboard to bring the surfice up to track level it ended up a bit like a jigsaw . to make sure all the bits went back in the right places i numbered the backs of the card on top of the cardboard i cut the same shape out of plastic card . all this was given a coat of grey primmer , the hardest bit was the in lay for the point but after one or two misshaps i got it right .
  24. hi andrew just seen your pics of the rail joints thats excatlly how mine went they end up more like steps how you havent ended up jumping up and down on it like i nearly did espically if like me you put hours of work in . i to like steve has said i will be looking at buy ing a scale model scenery baseboard next time . boxfiles are one thing . the other head ache like your have ing is getting the small size locos to run half sensible i have a gauge marster combi which i found gave mixed running so i brought a a budget model railways self build controller which has made things a lot better . but i really like dcc and a have NCE power cab but with every thing on boxfile size layouts smooth running is our goal . so it looks like learning the dark art of stay alives etc is next for me
  25. andrew here is a few pics just to show what i had to do in the end to bring the boxfile up to the traverser level its not a very tidy site to look at . also a couple of pics showing the construction of the traverser its no more than a tray with sides really , but i still had to lay a very thin layer of card strip under the the track to add fine adjustment . hope its of help
