  1. that looks good . one thing about use ing one layout and mix ing different stock from around the world saves a lot of time building lots of different layouts .
  2. Yes Steve i have i do like some french and german stock so it could be food for thought
  3. one thing i will do is a repaint i found a excellent photo of a completly worn out on its last wheels peeling paint and rust etc that i would love to have a go at
  4. Thanks for the other pics of your layout . i have just watched the u tube switch ing vids as well which has given me a boost to sort out my american stock which is a bit thin on the ground at the moment here a few pics of my EMD mod 40 its a roundhouse model i havent taken the cab of yet as ime hopeing to instal a dcc decoder and a stay alive . i have had a quick look to see if any one else has had a go and it dus say on the box dcc ready . one thing it did read was recomendid to remove the two small capacitors on the board as a factory wire up fault they were round the wrong way and just plug ing in a decoder stright in would cause it to fry! so if any one has advice espcialy what decoder and a stay a live might fit i would be most greatful .
  5. Hi Alcanman thats a really nice layout i do like that the buildings look great . and i see what you mean by just change ing some of your buildings to run US stock is there any more pics of your layout on the forum . . i have another idea in the pipe line for a US based layout use ing only two sideings no points as well possibly .
  6. brilliant work luke really like how its progress ing . i do like the signal box but if you think it needs replaceing needs must. some times its not untill things start take ing shape you can see the need to replace bits .
  7. Thank you for the kind remarks . ime very drawn to the industrial backwater over grown sideings etc they have a charm all of there own , i shall probly tweak around with bits . like and some different tuffs of grasses weeds etc and try to get the sceen to blend together more as time goes .
  8. a change of traction makes shunting more fun . this is a hattons andrew barclay 0-4-0 it was little barford but got a repaint ive got a like ing for steam engines and wasp stripes
  9. sneeked in a pic of the change place location . this is i think a SW7 . i did a rather crude respray as it was a MOPAC loco and i have tried to give it a ex canadian national look its a bit battered and faded i really like haveing a bash at worn out last legs look
  10. I have just found some more pics i had taken . Thank you Irish padre and James for your coments . i have over the years got much more hooked on small easy layouts . my interest very quickly likes to change to other projects like i guess with many other modellers i our hobby . as i like to run other stock from differrent places USA and ireland etc the layout serves my needs at the moment . my only regret is i didnt use under the track uncoupleing magnents as its kind of spoiled the look a bit . and i cannot b bothered to change it for now .
  11. Hi to All . Just three side ings is a 71cm long by 21 cm deep and has a 50 cm fiddle stick run off . its mainly recycled layout from a gave up project and i just wanted some thing to shunt a few wagons around and have a bit of enjoyment with out to much fuss of setting up . asort of plug in and play . its really basic just a pipe bridge some back ground warehouses and at the end of the side ings is a rusty old wall with gates to a pretend scrap yard . chuck in a few bushes weeds and spiled piles of coal . there you have it . i have used a ply for the back sceen and added a removeable lid with led lighting . all insperation comes from James Hilton and his cameo type layouts and his excellent books . more to follow soon
  12. brilliant work Ian really like it . seeing how you have made good use of the small space and got working features included to . i have all ways had thought of trying something small in a large narrow gauge scale . really grabs my intrerrest back . keep up the good work . kevin
  13. Excellent work Adam like the buildings and the track plan nice and simple . looking forward to seeing more .
  14. brilliant work really like what you have done . the ground cover is spot on . keeping things basic is the key . and a good step to getting a project finished
  15. Hi just a small up date i have just about got round to finishing off the electric loco . its had some small bits added a horn and a vac pipe . then i have given it a good run down weathering look with whashes of arcyrlic paint and weathering powders . loads more work to do yet . one thing i have been thinking is the layout has taken on the look of a ( CEGB ) power station more than a NCB colliery so it may end up with a change of name ? , another thing that i have dropped out the plan was a half constructed coal loading hopper which you can see in previous pics . . to me it was to much of a view block . and it was not built with the best of my achivements in a nut shell a right bodge 😏 so its been scrapped . any way hope you like the pics . more to come later
  16. One of the main parts of my layout was to have a try at a electric loco so hopefully this may be of some use to any body that may be thinking of haveing a go and how i did mine . basicly i needed a chassi some thing small . the best candidate i could find was the Dapol steam sentinel the body shell was taken off and the internal fittings removed . i had a good idea of the loco type i wanted . one of the small siemans electrics . and could have probly scratch built one , but to get things on the move i contacted The 3 D factory found on E bay and a chap called Dave replyed to my request and said send the chassi in and ile see what i can do . few weeks later a pakaged arrived back .. i was reall pleased with the end result . . i hope the pictures show how it started off . i have made a few altrerations my self mainly on the chassi i removed the sand boxes and steps . and made up my own side frames . some new replacement axle boxes were fixed on and the sand boxes glued back in new positions . after cleaning the new body shell it was given a coat of halfords grey primer then i used halfords yellow filler primer . i have added some warning stripes at the front to brake up the yellow . roof and a patograph were added and a few other bits to finish it off . it is fitted with a 21 pin decoder and a high power stay a live . and it runs like a dream . all that needs to be done now is the cab glaze ing fitted and a good weather ing . i will add some more pics after i have got on with that .
  17. well its food for thought . it was on my list for a long time . if you stick to just small locos steam or diesel or even electric in my case . there is so much out there ready to run . i started with a Dapol 08 and use the peco o gauge settrack point and track . ime well hooked now ,
  18. Hi to all . its been a good few weeks . since i last started showing some pics of my new project . so a bit of a up date . biggest change i have made is to totaly reduce the size . i was never really content with the lenth . to me it was over stretching my view of a micro layout . so with a lot of ummm and rrrr ing ive removed 8 ins off the end . so the senic section is now only 2ft .. i have worked out that even with this lenth i can still shunt around 5 wagons . it now means i will have 2 make up a new end pannel .. i have saved the end buildings so i shouldnt take long to restore . allso the two road traverser has been cut off the end so it will be much easyer to store away . there is also the loading hopper still to conplete . so loads more to go yet . hope the pics upload in the right order
  19. Hi Luke the build is really looking the part . can i ask track plan wise is it a right hand and two wye points
  20. Hi 73c thanks for the reply . brilliant i will give that a go that has been very helpful .
  21. Hi Neil . That must have been great growing up next to the railway way . i have allways had a interrest in Harton eletric railway ever since i 1st saw a picture of the locos etc in a magazine years ago . the loco i have is a boddy shell from the 3D factory mounted on a Dapol steam sentinel chassi . i have yet to finish it off . i have got another one that will make a pair . i allso have plans to re mount this kit i brought of E Bay some time ago it will of course have a respray to make it look more NCB and i am thinking of mount ing it on a XION Fowler chassi as the power bogie that came with it are a bit more than my skils can do but thats all for a bit later .
  22. Hi Colin k The layout is built as a one pice . total inc fid yard is 55ins long by 16ins wide traverser is 23 ins long and secnic section is 32 ins long . my only regret is i should have built traverser and scenic section as to seperate parts for easy storage
  23. Hi Andrew . thanks glad you like it . it is allmost identical to my oo gauge box file layout Kenwards colliery . except the over head and different traction
  24. Hi haveing not long ago brought a kit built o gauge J94 can any one offer me some advice on fitting a decoder to it i have hard wired decoders to locos before but this is the 1st loco i have come across that i think is a split frame pick up .and i am not really sure on how to make a start hope the pics show what i mean . or recomend any u tube links that may deal with this type of chassi . thank you
  25. Hi to all haveing changed over to O gauge . i have been thinking of what i could build in a small space with my regular track plan . well 1st try was a chalk quarry which got started cliffs where made and i was farely happy then a few weeks ago i just changed my mind . which i have a habbit of doing on projects . all the senic work was removed and just left the track in place . it was the constance pull back to a coal layout again . haveing all ways been happy how my kenwards colliery micro turned out i was all ways thinking maybe have a go in o gauge . work has been started the building i made for the chalk quarry has been used . so saved a bit of work one big differance this time and a 1st for me is dabble in over head eletric locos . haveing watched a u tube vid on the harton electric railway. and buying the book it has given me the push to have a go . any way here is a few pics on progress so far .
