  1. My advice for what`s it worth, would be to speak to who`s in charge of the work from either the Gas Company or Contractor and explain what you require them to do. I wouldn`t leave it until they turn up, as the guys doing the changeover could be on a tight schedule to get set number of properties to be reconnected to the new main that day and may either not have the time or equipment to carry out your alteration.
  2. Not wearing a seatbelt, without a reasonable excuse ie a medical exemption is against the law, hence why the Police will issue you with a fine etc. Since BJ said that it’s not longer a legal requirement to wear a mask, the Police have no powers to arrest and fine you for not wearing one. Yes, they can request you to leave the train / bus etc if that is one of the conditions of travel and may will probably arrest you for obstruction if you don`t comply. I foresee a huge rise in people not wanting to wear a mask on trains and buses, wearing these sunflower exemption badges around their necks, which can be readily purchased from Amazon etc for less than £2. The Government have already stated that you don`t need to produce any written medical evidence, it’s just their word that they have a hidden disability and who will actually challenge these people to prove it that they don`t. It will be a case of leave well alone, as no doubt the one that gets challenged will be the one person would actually has an hidden disability and is entitled to be exempt and will go to the media with their complaint. Quite similar to the blue badge scheme, now that includes hidden disabilities, not many Traffic Wardens will challenge if a blue badge is being used illegally, just in case they are wrong, hence the huge increase in badge thefts with a very small chance of being caught using one illegally.
  3. What’s happened to our vaccination programme? Watching yesterdays briefing, where there was the usual talk how effective the vaccination programme has been in protecting against catching the virus and how there was a greater chance of the unvaccinated of being hospitalised. But during the past 9 days or so, the rates for both jabs have fallen dramatically to such an extent that these are some of the lowest daily rates since the vaccination programme started in earnest back in Jan. As far as I`m aware there has been no mention of vaccine shortages, in fact where I live 1 of the 2 vaccination centres has now closed down, I assuming due to the lack of numbers coming forward. Even up to a month ago, BJ was crowing that the UK vaccination program was the way out of this pandemic; the target was that all adults (those who wanted it) would be vaccinated by the end of July. To my knowledge it has gone very quiet of late, no mention of this July end date target being achieved. There is still approx 6.7m adults still to receive their 1st jab, I appreciate that some of these are reluctant to be vaccinated, which is their choice, but that surely can`t be anywhere near that figure. Given the recent daily average of 80,000 1st jabs, it will take approx 84 days until these remaining numbers are given their vaccination. And not until Oct / Nov, given a reduced interval of 4 weeks until their 2nd jabs have been completed. Are they hoping that herd immunity will kick in and that will bring this virus under some sort of control?
  4. It was 5-1 Maguire was booked in the 1st half
  5. Well if none of us are willing to accept that risk then no exhibitions will ever take place again. But what we haven`t been told by the ONS is how many of the thousands of recent positive and the few hospitalised cases haven’t yet been vaccinated, probably the vast majority of them. If this wasn`t the case, I`m sure it would have been splashed all over the media that the vaccines weren`t working. Perhaps the solution in the short term would be only visitors allowed into any future exhibitions will be those who can prove they have been fully vaccinated to minimise the risk of transmission and the wearing of a face covering and social distancing may also be required. Happily most people are willing to take that risk and as each day passes more and more of the adult population will be vaccinated so therefore that transmission risk will be smaller. By the time we reach September, the start of the modelling season, hopefully we being to see more and more exhibitions taking place and a growing confidence that it would be no greater risk than a visit to the local supermarket on a busy weekend, with no face covering and social distancing and not treating everybody that you come into contact with being riddled with the virus.
  6. A couple of questions with your proposed set up. A one way system and maintaining social distancing around the exhibition looks good on paper, but will it result in a time limit on how long each visitor can spend at each layout or trader before they are required to move on to allow other visitors the chance to view. Eg a 4m long layout with a 1m social distance maintained for each visitor can then only accommodate 3 visitors along the side and 2 at each end. Are you then anticipating a queuing system on the more popular attractions? As there is a set limit on the numbers inside the venue, will there be a time limit set on each visitor, how long they can actually spend inside the venue before they are asked politely to leave to make way for other visitors? What impact do you envisage once the numbers inside have been reached, it will be a one out, one in, system of entry. How many casual visitors (families with children) will just walk away as the waiting queue is too long, especially if it`s raining, resulting in a potential loss of income.
  7. If England were to be considered as a world beating team then their goal scoring tally per game will need to be considerably increased. You can’t really expect to win these competitions by only managing to score 1 goal in a game, and that’s a struggled to even do that. Until they start putting the ball in the back of the net 3 or 4 times in the majority of these games then they may be considered as a world beating team.
  8. Where is the actual venue location, address, satnav?
  9. Does that mean the Doncaster Show 2022 is going to be moved from February to October?
  10. Does this proposed change only going to affect BT customers. As I currently receive my Virgin Media phone line through a separate master / slave plug in box, from my broadband connection, will that be changing as well?
  11. Excuse my ignorance, but does this mean that all the old BT phone lines will now have to be changed to an internet service? If this is correct, then that is going to be a very interesting conversation with my elderly in-laws to try to explain this change to them, for 2 people who have trouble working the TV remote control on their tv! I will assume that this changeover will be carried out free of charge.
  12. The one fact I`m keen to find out is - just how many of those 127,000+ who have sadly died had NO OTHER underlining health problems. The ONS stopped providing that information after June 2020, giving the reason as the number of deaths overall was falling. And has refused since to give out those figures in any FOI requests and that LA aren`t obliged either to give out that information. The last figure given for England and Wales was 4476 out of a total of 50335. I do wonder why these figures were stopped being published. Was it a Government instruction not to publish these separate numbers, as it would undermine the pressure for lockdowns on the basis that there was only a very small chance of a healthy person dying from the effects of COVID?
  13. The one person whose name has yet has yet to be mentioned and was the main driver behind this ESL, is Florentino Perez, the current President of Real Madrid and having the same role in the ESL. He is quoted as saying this ESL will save football and more importantly save Real Madrid. That is why he was furious when the big 6 English Clubs pulled out and effectively ended any chance of it going ahead. Real Madrid like their counterparts Barcelona, although having the largest incomes, they have massive debt problems mainly due to their huge wage bill, which has been growing year on year. They have an ageing squad, most are 30+ years and needs to be replaced in the near future. Even today Perez was moaning the fact that without the ESL they were unlikely now to be able to bring Mbappe and Haaland to Madrid at a cost of over £500M. On that basis alone it is very doubtful the UEFA will be any taking banning action against the 12 clubs, as without the income from CL football, the likes of Madrid and Bara could go under and UEFA will not allow that to happen. Also, the present semi-finals and finals in both European competitions involving these clubs will go ahead due to the existing contractual TV rights with SKY. Also if UEFA were to ban these 12 from taking part in future CL and EL matches, would the likes of SKY still want to shell out the same huge sums? While on the subject of future sanctions against these 12 clubs, one would hope that any such sanctions would be equally applied to all the 12 in the same manner. It would be extremely unfair if say the 6 English were penalised by our FA/PL with a point’s reduction or even moved down to a lower league when the 6 other counterparts got away with only a slap on the wrist by their own authorities, as they were deemed to be too important to their own leagues to suffer such sanctions.
  14. Where does that now leave the players in all this, especially if the UEFA / FIFA threat goes ahead to bar those players from future International selection? Isn`t it a players dream to represent their country at senior level in a UEFA or World Cup finals? Now they have the choice of ESL or non ESL, Club or Country. I wonder just how many of these players will want to continue to playing for these ESL clubs once their present contracts expire and be wanting a transfer away. If a situation arises if most of the top players are no longer willing to play for these ESL teams then surely the media market and the associated money will soon disappear. Similar why Sky, BT etc are paying top dollar to televise the PL games against what they are paying for the rest of the EFL.
  15. Guaranteed European football every year, loads of income without having the huge outlay needed to buy new players to compete for a “CL” place, which is probably is the Owners (Glaziers) dream. Also depending on the price money structure, between say winning it and a quarter final place, some Owners (Glaziers) might not believe that’s its value for money to make that big money signing after taking into account the salary, bonus and agent fees added on. I wonder what the reaction will be on the actual player salaries now that the big clubs won’t really be needed to compete with each other for a “CL” place every year. Now if every true football fan were to cancel their subscriptions to the various media outlets who are no doubt supporting this breakaway, then there would be a quick change of heart, as I can’t see the likes of Sky, BT or Amazon bidding for the media rights if there’s no guarantee of a decent profit return on their huge outlay.
  16. Probably not, not unless he fibbed about his age, as Allan was born in 1935, so that would have made him 25 in 1960.
  17. I had the same problem and set up as you, my detached ex garage, now railway room is being supplied by the same method, via 2 consumer units. My Virgin Media router is situated in my living room, which being diagonally opposite my garage, so installing any cable connection or Wi-Fi booster system wasn`t an option. So after some investigation I ending up buying 2 TRENDnet TPL-408E2K/UK Powerline sockets off Amazon for £38.00 and I`ve had no problems since I installed them some 3 years ago. Although they do lose connection very occasionally, but are very easily reset by a small button on the unit. To work efficiently they do need to be plugged directly into their own socket outlet at both ends, not into an extension lead, so I use one socket of a double, the other having the extension lead plugged in to power the computer equipment etc. I`ve just done a speed test - house 95Mbps, railway room 65Mbps, which for my general purposes ie searching, emails, youtube etc is ok. But if you are planning to use your computer for gaming etc, then that may be a problem. There are many other types of these adaptors on the market, be aware some claim they are able to transfer a maximum of xxx amount of Mbps, but in reality they do fall well short of their figures. Hope this helps
  18. I`m not denying that it’s very convenient to have these contactless cards for those quick purchases, but I do have some reservations into their use. You should not be able to use the same contactless card for more than say 3 transactions or above a set total money limit without having to enter the PIN to verify you are the legal owner of that card. It’s far too easy for the criminals to steal a card and use it until at some stage they asked to enter the cards PIN, which by some strange coincidence that they seemed to have forgotten, by which time they have accumulated quite a large amount of goods, normally in form of cigarettes and drink.
  19. The importance of hand washing, especially after going to the toilet. Long may that continue.
  20. Didn’t they say something along the same lines at the beginning of WW1? But it lasted another 4 years!
  21. Reminds me of that famous quote almost at the end of the 1966 world cup.
  22. There appears to be plenty of salad, vegetable and fruit about. It`s these items and others that can`t be stored for a long period of time that the stock-pilers have left untouched.
  23. What isn`t helping with the panic buying and stock piling situation, is the fact that during every government broadcast for the last couple of weeks and even in yesterdays broadcast, the time of 12 weeks has been mentioned for periods of isolation. No doubt it will be mentioned again today. But I would like to know just when this 12 week isolation period will officially start from, so an end date can be realised.
  24. Just heard on the lunchtime news that Boris is now considering closing all the UK Ports, Airports and Eurostar? in order to try to contain this virus. Well I would have thought that this should have been his first course of action, 2 months ago. With most of Europe now in lock-down just what countries are those entering the UK now coming from? And I very much doubt if any are now being placed into the 14 day quarantine that the boat people were subject to. With the virus only being active for 14 days we may have had a chance to contain it. Too little, too late. We are an island and as this virus can only be passed from person to person this would have been the obvious way to contain it. But we British are just too nice and we don`t really want to upset too many of our foreign friends by locking them out. So we are now paying the price.
