  1. Greetings all.

So earlier this year I built myself a small diorama loosely based on French high speed lines. It was important to me from the get-go that this would be semi-modular as my sole purpose for it to exist was to take nice pictures of trains on it from different eras.

This diorama was to be so diverse...that I also planned to use it to model scenes from multiple different countries! Through the power of photographic trickery and careful(ish) placement...I attempted to make this work. Whether I succeeded or not is another matter lol

French high speed lines in the countryside generally don't have the most amazing, exciting scenery which is a big bonus for me cause I mostly suck and don't have the patience for super high quality modelling....I'm probably not even half as talented as you guys/gals for such delicate, intricate work. The main focus for me was the final images and the trains themselves are the stars of the show.

BTW....I'm a HUGE high speed train fanboy, especially TGV's! Can't make any excuses for it lol but I do really appreciate other types of trains which I've accumulated literally just over the last 6 months, which you'll see in my images below. My wallet loathes this hobby.

I didn't document much of the building process so don't have many pictures to share apart from these:

The other benefit of having a fairly sparse diorama is so I can easily swap out buildings, trees, etc. Even the catenary is easy to swap out! Wohoooo!

Anyways....here's some pictures of the "final" result:

Did you buy direct from Tasma? I registered to have an account but they emailed back to say they are Wholsesalers only, and want a Company name to proceed further.

I do happen to have my own business, but they might wonder what a Painter & Decorator wants with model foliage...🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️😉🤣

You can buy them on ebay too! Look for a seller called udiow 😃

You say your objective was nice pictures - and you have excelled! Excellent shots.

Which gauge is it - and can we see some pics of the layout in context please?

    cheers!

As an update...just thought I'd share a few pics of my ermmm..."diorama".

I'm almost half way there and even though I'll be adding catenary (from Viessmann)...it's important that I have the option to remove the overhead wires at will. This is so I can take pictures of my diesel and steam locomotives...as well as my beloved bullet trains lol

This "diorama" won't win any awards for being the most highly detailed partially because I'm nowhere near as skilled as you guys but at the same time...because this small set-up is based on French high speed lines (complete with Bibloc track from PECO)...real life high speed railway lines in France don't exactly have magical scenery lol

Anyways...this is what it's looking like so far

Stunning pictures nice crisp and clear. The 66 looks splendid in that colour a scheme, thanks for sharing.

@Kevin JohnsonI appreciate that buddy, thanks so much.

The colour scheme you mention of this class 66 is almost the sole reason why I own it.

Basically...it's like a small group of vampires hijacked and killed all previous railway staff who owned this locomotive...then decided to paint all of their current fleet in black while tagging their logo in graffiti ('Rush Rail) on the sides of every train they possess. :lol_mini:

This is the ONLY reason why I own this 'Rush Rail' class 66. I'm a bullet train fanboy at heart! :yahoo:

@Andrew Dthank you so much mate :)

So this is HO scale. Will get a few snaps of the diorama as a work in progress when I get a chance but it's practically empty at the moment with just double track glued with ballast on a sub-standard plywood baseboard lol

I've been sat here twiddling my thumbs for weeks waiting for Royal Mail to post a ton of stuff that I ordered for my mini 'layout' but the delays (prolly mostly from C*vid staff shortages) continue :resent:

  6. Greetings all,

    Newish member here.

So, I'm currently in the middle of building a small tiny 'diorama' as I don't have nowhere near enough space in my rented out room to build any kind of meaningful layout. My pathetic room is roughly the size of a large cardboard box, hence why I'm forced to build a 'diorama' lol

My sole intention to do this is for taking nice pictures.

Last year, I prepared a test setup which took around 15 hours to build, take pictures of and disassemble.

Below are images I took of the small scene with my Class 66 'Rush Rail' and Italian Frecciarossa 1000 bullet train from ACME:

This has been a slow build really but the first of the extension boards for the above station when in Cambrian 'Cwm Bach' guise (incidentally I did the name as the translation of 'small valley' given it's a small halt next to a planned river crossing). So below the nearly finished 60cm extension board featuring my interpretation of a Cambrian style trestle bridge. Fortunately there was 10 minutes of lovely afternoon light about half an hour ago which mean I could get a few quick snaps in the garden. Neatening up of the front extra is still needed and a black fascia painted along them. The next extension board will see a 1 in 40 gradient climb and crossing, this is currently being built and in its early stages. That will also be a standalone board as a sort of colliery branch, inspired by the country lane on my regular walking route through the fields which had a colliery line immediately adjacent to it in the 1900s. But enough of that, below is what I am currently finishing (the stock does need weathering).

@KarlI have to say this...your layout AND your images are world class.

    Just truly incredible images Sir.

    Fantastic stuff

Hi there @Cuthbert 80 - the diorama / photo plank looks great.  Given your interests, do check out the Continental/Forum Forum if you’ve not seen it yet: I’ve found there’s loads of help, advice, encouragement and expertise there to tap into and share, plus lots of examples of things people have either bought second-hand (or made) that can save loads,  and keep the funds for those ‘must-have’ items we all fall for :D, Keith.

@Keith Addenbrookethank you kindly Sir...really appreciate it :)

Will deffo check out the continental forum mate.

Indeed, my funds only go towards the best 'must-have' items....I'm quite picky about what I buy already! :biggrin_mini2:

    Cheers!

  9. Well...hello everyone!

So, I'm an events and wedding photographer by trade and have been into model trains on and off for at least 35 years. My mother took me travelling on trains A LOT when I was a little youngling and so I blame her for this expensive and of course, highly enjoyable hobby :biggrin_mini2:

I make no excuses and I'm unashamedly heavily biased towards high speed bullet trains (my profile pic kinda gives this away I guess lol) although I do appreciate many other types.

Would consider myself relatively financially poor compared to most people lol so have never really had the space to create a truly mesmerising layout. So small is my room that I'm currently renting out...that it is virtually impossible to have even a small running layout so I've decided to make a tiny pathetic sized "diorama" made only so I can take nice pictures of my sexy model trains in HO scale on it....given that I'm a photographer :unknw_mini:

Despite hardly ever earning handsome incomes...I've mostly made things work in terms of funding new gorgeous highly detailed model trains and travelling on real ones...in real life, around world! I'm fairly good at saving so I've made things happen a number of times...somehow.

I'm embarrasingly obsessed with French TGV high speed trains so I'm in the process of modelling a small scene on one of the French high speed lines with intentionally very basic scenery. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to serious modelling and I'm just in awe at some of the amazing things you guys and gals have achieved. I have a lot to learn :O

To give you an idea of what I'm trying to do...this is my "here's one I made earlier" moment.

Below is an image I took of my Italian Frecciarossa 1000 bullet train (from ACME) on a test setup I prepared last year while waiting for my Trix TGV Euroduplex to turn up in the post.
