  1. Hi guys, Just wondering where i could source brake leavers for HEA hoppers? Im making up a rake of PAB hoppers and ive come to the conclusion that HEA brake levers are similar enough. Im also contemplating scratch building them. Cheers, Caz.
  2. I don't understand why Hornby still haven't made a plain DB 60. would be the ideal loco to make with a set of decals to have your choice of 60...
  3. My initial thought is the difference between new releases of steam(25) and diesel(5), but I suppose theres more scope in the steam era. But im quite happy with the 60 and the 67. Electric wise the Virgin 87 looks tasty, as well as the Virgin stock and DVT. Wagons, I quite like the Seacows and the HEAs. So not going to be too expensive for me this year!
  4. With a new year fast approaching, ive given in and bought this layout it's own loco, and what else but a Ivatt 2mt tank. Not a push-pull loco, nor a Bangor shed loco, however 41233 did work from Rhyl on the 'Red Dragon' services in the 60s. Being an older Bachy loco, I converted it to DCC by insulating the motor contacts from the split chasis then solder the wires to the contacts, insulating them with heat-shrink tube. Looks right at home...
  5. Progress report... The loco will go for a gloss coat in the next couple of days, so the goodies that will be under the tree can be aplied. The only components missing now are laserglase, which is difficult to get hold of at the moment seems to be out if stock, and a chassis for it. Might buy a complete loco, the body of which will make up the next project, 37099. I'd luke to take this opportunity now to wish everyone a Nadolig Llawen/Merry Christmas!
  6. With both noses on, I decided to test-fit it all to a chassis... Poor photo, but hopefully shows what ive managed to do. It's a snug fit as the Molliput needs to be thicker for strength. Needs now LEDs, decals and glazing.
  7. Right, need to get my back-side into gear with this layout. The next jobs to tackle is to paint the side of the boards black and 'rust up' the rails. Im also wanting to add some modern features to the layout. My enthusiasm for this layout hasnt dwindled, its just time and money!
  8. An update... 37057 has had one nose fitted. Its also been fitted with grab irons and its LEDs dry-fitted. Tail lights are provided via the ViTrains light bar. And finally, a comparison with the only other EWS 37/0 in the fleet 37174... Thanks for looking.
  9. Cheers, Rob. Its quite simply poping off the original Vi nose and putting on the cast Lima one. Just a quick progress update as im writing, both noses have had holes drilled for lights. 2mm holes for marker and head light which will accomodate 2mm tower LEDs, then smaller holes for the d-lights.
  10. Nothing yet mate, doing a loco project and kit-building PAB wagons at the moment to give me a bit of variety. Hopefully a bit more later in the month.
  11. This is where i will post my projects. Firstly is the biggest loco project ive undertaken so far. Changing a Vitrains 37/0 from centre head-code to split head-code... Loco in primer... Then in EWS red... The loco will be finished as 37057 Viking in EW&S livery. I plan to make two more to the guises of EW&S 37114 and Colas Rail Freight 37099. As with my other two class 37 project, this loco will be fitted with Laserglase windows which vastly improve the ViTrains windscreens.
  12. Sorry to post again, just getting info/stuff together to make a start on these wagons Where can I source brake levers for these? I know other things such as air cylinders and pipes etc I can scratch build with plastic and wire etc. Thanks in advance, Caz
  13. Just received a set of these brilliant wagons, and am looking forward to build them, can anyone give me details of what I need to finish them, stuff like the suspension units etc? many thanks
  14. Does anyone have photos or drawings of these wagons? These were a unique rake built specially for Anglesey Aluminium for taking coke from Humberside to the plant in Holyhead. These operated until 2002 when a large warehouse fire in Immingham stopped the operation. They were scrapped a few years ago by G. Lock, Bangor.
  15. Thanks guys. Its my first attempt at scenics so it needs adding to. Yes, one board towards the Amlwch end to use the forrest as a scenic break, then one board in the Llangefni direction to use a cutting as a scenic break.
  16. Thanks, Rob, I hope it works out the way I imagine it! No real progress over the last couple of weeks unfortunately, mostly due to work, but found time tonight to photo a selection of my EWS 37s on the layout. 37174, a ViTrains model I've re-sprayed myself. 37422, a standard ViTrains release with etched name plates. 37703, again a standard ViTrains release that I've weathered myself. Enjoy, more soon.
  17. Cheers Neil new board soon I hope
  18. Not much done in recent days, just finished off the greenery. On to the water next. The book that inspired me most was 'Anglesey Branch Lines' by W.G.Rear. Here's a photo that I found taken from a Black 5 hauling the Amlwch tanks, looking in the up direction towards Llangefni on the piece of line I'm re-recreating. With it is a photo I've took of my layout (yes unprototypically with a GWR Castle class) Anyway next big thing will be expansion, one board towards Amlwch with the line 'disapearing' into a forest, then one board towards Llangefni where the line goes into a cutting.
