The Birmingham destination is International - I assume for airport traffic.

Mr. Cardboard King. I was always amazed by what he achieved with packing cases and printed overlays. Always an inspiration.

I note in France that their meteorological service count the start of winter as on the 1st of December - furriners .... mumble mumble .......
Not a furriners thing, just a Met Office thing - UK Met Office counts the same way.

That is a very unusual trackplan. I cannot think of anything like it with a great big 75ft turntable beyond the platforms. Something from the 1850/75 era and never modernised with a 45 ft table maybe, but it's a huge waste of space. and horrendously dangerous for a full size railway. I just would not bother with a huge turntable on site. I would have the loco depot and carriage sidings off stage to get more movements
The turntable is a reflection of the original - Ramsgate Harbour. The original had measures in place to make it safe for operation: on one road, there was a run off to buffers and the turntable was normally set to the other road so that there was a safe path a cross it.
So on the proposal for the model, I would have run offs to buffers on the two outer approaches (could be dummy points) and the turntable set to the centre road whenever running in to that platform.

I hope fellow modellers will not have thought that I have reported to the boss given the length of time since my last post.
Hi Jonathan,
I’m pleased that you have retained your sense of humour despite all that is happening. And glad that you’re home.
Although not very good at remembering, I’ve been mentioning your situation to the boss when I do.

might get to ride on one of the new Glasgow underground units as they are now out running on certain trains
So long as there is one in service, it’s just a case of being at one of the island platform stations and waiting max 24mins til it arrives, and then (possibly) going the long way round for your journey.
Enjoy.

Apropos of this, in many places if only one escalator is available it is always switched to upriding. Not at New Street...
Nor at Glasgow Central.
Both NR operated stations . . .
If anyone from that company is reading . . . !Paul.

3x 325’s with a DB 66 sitting in the sidings st Lichfield just now as I passed on 1H16 to Manchester
Any wheel skates visible?
50p is a big flat, but I don’t think it would stop something being moved slowly to a siding. So I wonder if it was something like a traction motor deconstruction that locked everything solid and that’s why it took so long to get it off the running line.

Is that a heritage / farewell repaint or something? Just wondered with the new units coming in now, Keith.I believe so. Interior is as all the others, but a bit cleaner!

Hello John,
I've started laying timbers for Castle Junction which is quite therapeutic one you start.
Once done, and before adding rails, I need to think about isolations. Had you given it any thought in your planning.
I don't know if I might be over thinking it but I plan to isolate each diamond from each other, then have four isolated section in each diamond.
Any thoughts?
Anyone?
The next conundrum will be operation.
I think that’s the only way to do it.

HEATH TOWN SIGNAL WORKS ? WHO KNEW!
Not sure how else I’d work it onto the layout.
Haven’t run it yet - it’s surprisingly heavy. Diminutive but beautiful.
And part of my history too.

Thanks Ian,
I realised that Door Contrast requirements would have changed the look so it’s good to see the difference.
But they’ve done as good a job as they can whilst still meeting the modern rules.

French electrics🫢
You do it, you'd better follow the, (change every year), rules.
They do it, and you get the gallic facial shrug, hey, it'll be ok.
And don't get me started on French plumbing, with it's choice of 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 26, 28mm pipework and half a dozen types of fittings for each diameter.
😒
Could be worse, they could have had 24mm too!

Not a photo but couldn't find a relevant thread.
How about this 2Y09 at Port Sunlight today.
”Oh dear, it’s only a three car” was my reaction when I saw the departure board . . .
Its very smart, and they’ve done their best with the interior too.

Is there an updated index in this topic? Or anywhere else that doesn’t require me to have an iTrains licence?
Thanks,

My thanks to Barry O for bringing you to Warley so that we could meet face to face rather than by words and photos or Zooming.
Was good to put the railway world to rights with you and The Stationmaster.
And good that The Stationmaster Gen2 passed by while I was there as I now have an invite to Great Cockrow Railway to inspect the signalling once they open up next summer.

Hello all,
I’m sad to announce that I’ll be taking a short break from RMWeb. I will be back.
In the mean time, I will be happy to respond to friends via PM.
There should be updates on this topic too - when I have something to show!

Just a note to say that, sadly, I’ll have to sign out of this topic.
I had been puzzled why there had been plenty of criticism but a deathly silence when requests for specific help had been made.
For reasons specific to my (self confessed) weird use of automation, I don’t think I will become an iTrains user and it would not be reasonable to change iTrains just for me.
Without being an iTrains user myself and able to test out theories and do experiments with it I won’t be competent in its capabilities. I don’t feel it is my place to advise others on what can and can’t be done (or should and shouldn’t) when I am not a competent user.
Apologies for stringing you along and giving the impression that I would be able to help.
Paul.

Since real point machines are surface-mounted, the industry just needs to work on proper miniaturisation. I don't know how feasible it is to get the required force with such a small motor or solenoid.
Knowing how thin the wire is on a 12” machine, just looking at a 1:76 wire should break it!

Help identifying Patronics electric item
in Electrics (non-DCC)

Thought that was what it was. Built myself one using a 33,000uF capacitor and a 2N3055 many years ago (without the protection). Some years later I successfully resurrected the capacitor by charging through a 1Mohm resistor.
Gone slo-mo now, so when I find it again it will need the slow charge once more.
