  1. Maybe, though I think it more likely that they are under promising so as not to get peoples hopes up (and a barage of social media moaning if they don't arrive on time!). Time will tell!

    To Michanglais's post!

    Hi,

Is there a decent retailer of model railways fairly near to the area, I know of none in Wernigerode.

    Thank you

There is a shop, can't say if its any good as I've not been in it:

    https://www.train-line45.de/

If you Google search "Modelleisenbahn Wernigerode" it will give you all the shops in the area. If I'm going somewhere in Europe I always find out what the local language version of "model railway shop" is and do a google search before I go...

Worsley Works - "I can do it for you buet cannot give a date as I will need to fill a new 18" x 12" sheet"

You can't rush Allen, Luke! That's his normal way of working, he takes orders and when he can fill an 18"x12" sheet he'll do the etch. You just have to be patient. I've had to wait 6 months or more in the past!

  4. I see Aguero was celebrating with the team yesterday, it seems they registered him as an Assistant Coach so he's on the "team" and got a medal, nice touch by Argentina for a nice bloke who's career was cut tragically short!

  5. It seems many of you ignore the preservation scene, perhaps to justify your views that Hornby have got it "all wrong"... Plenty of 08s and 50s knocking around on various lines, not to mention the 50s that also appear on the mainline from time to time and 08s I see from the windows of the Voyagers as we travel around the country, perhaps not as rare as some people are making out... Lots of long posts saying nothing (but largely negative)  starting to appear again, perhaps Dix120 was right, I'd hoped we'd moved on from that...

The flying scotsman was nice but not a particularly convincing " crawl ",

So i'd be interested in the 08 slow speed performance , cos if it's not great , it'd defeat any idea of a shunting layout in the scale - the reason I didn't really consider N for that purpose

Watching the video it seems he's using the Hornby controller which, as several people have said,  isn't very good. Before passing judgement so quickly I'd rather see it powered by a decent one such as a Gaugemaster D, W or Combi.

if Hornby where to announce a Jubilee

They've announced a Black Five so nearly there! I'd like a Jubilee as well, other than the Brits they were the only "namers" I saw in my steam spotting days in the late 60s. "Hardy", please!!

I sincerely hope this is fake news but anything is possible 🙁

    Nope, not fake:

"Nasr Azadani was arrested in November 2022 during the Mahsa Amini protests in connection with the deaths of a police colonel and two volunteer militia members. He was accused of "waging war against God" and sentenced to death"

Though whether a petition in the West will do anything at all to help him is being a bit optimistic, they'll do what they want, regardless. Makes you realise how lucky we are.

  9. Most of that list are in the early phases, though, so perhaps they are doing what you suggest! I think there are two schools of thought going on, one where they think Hornby should have launched the whole lot in one go and the other who think they are doing it right by a phased introduction... Again time will tell who's right... (To gc4946 post)

if they want to be taken serious by serious modellers..

From what they've said they aren't too bothered by them! Most modellers aren't rivet counters and won't be bothered by the "issues" you list... Rivet counters will...

    imo they missed some “wows”.

Had Electrostar been in the first announcement i’d have been insanely jealous of TT and doing my best to ignore.

Would it sell better than the ones they've announced so far, though? I suspect not, what they've announced looks to me like Hornby have done their research on what will sell best across the whole spectrum of modellers, new and old, and have decided on the line-up we see. Whether they or you are right we shall have to wait and see. Personally I would have no interest whatsoever in an Electrostar! ;)

Problem is , you’ve got to let people have their opinions whether you agree or not - otherwise it’s censorship . I take exception when people who are newbies come on and slag off other people commenting . If you don’t agree write your version or scroll on - but don’t disrespect their opinion,

I didn't see him "slagging off" anyone, though, simply passing comment about what he'd seen, which plenty of others had seen and done as well, your post on the other hand... Pot and kettle?

I'm interested to see what's going to happen in the 'parts & spares' department.

I suspect that if it's faulty it will be a send it back and we'll replace it, just like most of the other manufacturers. Though I also think that current "model railway repairers" will also be able to repair them once they are out of warranty, I can't see the mechanisms being that much different to other scales and stuff like gears can be 3D printed as already proved with Bachmann N scale locos. "Parts" as in detailing bits will come along in due course, rescaled from 00 I'd have thought. It's one of those things that will be done over time but not straight away.

I wonder how long before a set ends up on ebay ?

More interested about what the price will be!

@Dix120 1 and 3, m8, you aren't the first to comment like that btw! It's not too bad now, though it's interesting that a newcomer saw the vibes so quickly...

  13. What's with this "it's not proper football if it's in the EPL/Internationals, etc., etc."?! It is just as much proper football as any of the Sunday leagues are. I was chatting to a chap in my local the other night who wouldn't even accept that your beloved Oldham and Orient is proper football, as far as he was concerned not even my local team, the Harriers were. He would only accept Stourport Swifts and below!! Just because the top teams have lots of money doesn't mean it's not proper football, in fact I've thoroughly enjoyed watching the skill levels shown in the EPL and the World Cup, a level I could never to aspire to in my younger days (I was useless!)!

As I noted above I’m not after lots just some joined up thinking. Five options for BR(E) and just one for LMS, why not 3-3 or 4-2? The Pacifics and HST all come with coaches but what’s in phase one for the 66’s? GBRF with the BP TTA’s, coal sector MGR’s with a DB 66? These liveries are more suited to the big bogie hoppers or box wagons. The BR 08 goes with several wagons but not the big diesels.

There’s nothing in phase one to go with po open wagons, it’s random.

I think we've arrived at agree to differ time, I still think you are expecting too much and i don't see it as as disjointed as you do! Never mind, at least we are getting RTR British TT which, for me who'd been wanting that for the best part of 40 years, is more important than how fast and how it arrives!

  15. I'd agree, Andy, from what I've seen on FB and elsewhere so far it's been existing modellers from other scales/gauges and armchair modellers who have decided to take the plunge. Having said that I've not seen any of the advertising that Hornby initially said they were going to do to attract these "new" enthusiasts. Perhaps that's been put on hold because of the delays getting the sets from China, hardly much point in doing a big advertising campaign if you haven't got the stock. Most of the "advertising" so far has been via their website, forums, FB and specialist magazines, more word of mouth than a campaign! Having said all that they seem to be selling well even without the "new market"...

  17. To be fair to Hornby this is the first time that a UK manufacturer has gone into a completely new scale in a long time. They aren't a large company so expecting them to release lots of stuff all at the same time i feel is being unrealistic, though i accept you don't agree with that. I don't think it's the end of the world to have to wait a few months for more stock, March/April seems to be the point at which we'll see coaches and wagons arriving.

This discussion is a far cry from the Peco TT thread when all we were looking at was a few pieces of track and the odd wagon and loco!! ;)
