  1. Yes, it would seem that may well be the case and it's a known "issue" (for some people, but not all). I tried PWM controllers when i was messing around with Z mechanisms but never found them very good, the good old GM W worked very well with the Z stuff on the other hand, with a suitably reduced AC input. I'll just get my W out when Easterner arrives, then, and sell on the Hornby controller!

  2. Reading several reviews on FB and it seems that they are very noisy when using the Hornby controller. A couple of people have then tried their GM controllers (even an old H&M one) and it's a different beast altogether, so if you've got one and it's noisy try a different controller first before complaining! Not good for new starters who don't have one, though.

Best leave Hornby then to the one that tries to copy what the other cats do and fails miserably.

Currently more likely to try something new that no other cats have done before, whether it will succeed or not is another matter! Can see Hornby the cat eying up the "big leap"!! ;)

Yes, but the relationship with 12mm gauge track is so much better. Virtually 100% spot on, so much better than TT3 or OO or N for that matter

It is however a great shame that Hornby decided to supply such overscale track as to some degree it takes away from the correct gauge appearance.

I think the track on the video is Peco H0m, if it is it confirms that whilst it may be OK for TT3 it isn't for TT. On that basis the few yards I have will be fiddle yard fodder as whilst i can accept the rail (it's code 75 if I remember rightly) the sleeper spacing looks wrong. Hornby are using virtually the same as Tillig so whilst the rail may be a little heavy for older eras they won't be too far away for modern mainline. Though again I'll be using the Hornby in the fiddle yard except for the curves at either end of the layout.

  5. To be fair to him though his record is as good as and a lot better than many before him. So who could do any better, and is a free agent to move to the job, or even want it?! Half the problem with the job is the pressure, often unnecessary, from the press and fans, I know I certainly wouldn't want to do it!

But I'd rather have the opinion of a fellow modeller than that of an "influencer" whose aim is to make a story and get likes!

Then FB is the place, there's already 3 or 4 people who said they'd had the notification of the delivery date and would be posting photos and videos, they are in the TT Groups so enthusiasts, not influencers!

the famous 0 gauge Maybank layout

That was the one with a loco depot on top of the fiddle yard with a steep incline up to it?

Under promise and over deliver! He said that the Easterner set would arrive towards the end of January, let's hope that is the same!! 😉

I'm reliably informed that the purpose of the game is to SCORE A GOAL once you are in the opposing penalty box?  France seemed to understand this...

Can't argue with that, England had two penalties caused by France's ability to hack the player down before they had chance to score! 😉

Being super lazy (to trawl through relevant threads) and not really being an operator, can someone explain what the operational attraction is in Minories?

You could ask on here, as they seem to have created a massive thread discussing it I'm sure they'll tell you, or as Jason says below it's simply to allow you to run more trains realistically on a layout the same size as a country branch terminal!

Strictly speaking, its not a "Flying Scotsman" set, though Hornby do try and link it to the service called "The Flying Scotsman".  The loco inside is "Blink Bonny" and the name on the box is "The Scotsman".

I'm not completely sure that the service called "The Flying Scotsman" consisted of Pullman cars either....

Somewhere on the 135 pages we discussed this before, Hornby would have to pay (the NRM?) some monies if they used the Flying Scotsman name, hence the name the "Scotsman", nearly there, but not quite! The Harrogate Pullman (later Queen of Scots) would be the closest, at least on the lower half of the ECML... Bit of modeller's imagination in use by Hornby to sell the set! Perhaps inspired by this, though not in BR colours, though the Harrogate Pullman does go back to 1923, so could have been hauled by Blink Bonny at some point in the 1930s!

But many of us can spot a wrong liveried locomotive or carriage a mile away. These things had a set standard. If they were painted wrong, then they would be dragged back in for a repaint.

Why not get it right in the first place?

But what is right? Fine when it leaves the works, but after that the colour changes as it gets dirty, also as i said different lighting conditions can affect what we see, not to mention dirt, even after a wash the colour can change! Also if different coloured undercoats are used by different paint shops the top colour can change.

Unlike you I wouldn't know what the exact colour is anyhow, I just look at it and if it looks ok then fine, subtle shades would be lost on me! If you want it perfect then that's fine, that's your choice, but it isn't mine and never will be. My TT layout will be based in the mid/late 60s when cleaning wasn't done very much, as an example whilst the Brits and Jubs were painted green what i saw as a kid certainly wasn't what I see on a pristine model. We all have different priorities, I'd avoid any of my layouts if i were you!

  12. I'm never too worried about colour, in real life they get dirty very quickly and colour varies a great deal depending on lighting conditions. I have a set of photos of a Czech narrow gauge diesel that is actually painted in purple but the photos show it from purple through to pink! As long as it looks ok that is enough for me.

I'm too lazy to Google but can you find any quoted figures for miles/kWh on a manufacturer's website?

I've only seen figures in forums & social media about what people are finding their car does.

    1. Nope and I haven't bothered looking (though I regard battery mileage range as more important than miles/kWh - I know i shouldn't but it's the easiest way to get an idea how far the car will go and so decide whether it'll be suitable) and...

    2. Those figures tend to be more reliable than range figures on the manufacturers websites...

[This Society attracts a lot of negativity at the moment but they were there in TT when no-one else was. I wish people would just put a stop to it. ]

Eh? Where?! There was some negativity from some 3mm modellers early on about the choice of scale (understandable i suppose) but in the main that's disappeared, thank goodness, but I don't remember any negativity towards the 3mm Society itself, in fact they've been referred to on several occasions as a place to get bits...
