I can't imagine being relaxed when constantly hoping some automated system will do what it's supposed to do.

There's lots of things that are done automatically these days, are you going to shun them all? I am still keeping an eye on the road ahead, checking my speed, etc., just that I am not having to constantly brake and accelerate, the car is doing that for me. I'd suggest you try it before criticising.

  2. I've had a Rokal 060T and 2-10-2T and they certainly were crude when compared with items from Zeuke of the same era. I never ended up using the Rokal locos but have used many Zeuke and BTTB locos over the years.

If I may again suggest the already-extant English-language TT scale forum? It's there, it's English, it's TT. Members from around the planet, and dealing with any prototype, standard or narrow gauge, etc. It's not hugely busy but it's close and it's been the driver of the recent upsurge in NorAm outline models.

Yes, I remember you mentioning it, please give us a link and I'll join. May be worth mentioning it on FB as well.

  4. Someone is supplying the products, though, and more are coming on board every day. I'm a member of the 009 society mentioned earlier and have been a member of the 5.5mm Assoc in the past, both served a need, to provide a point of reference for a small group of people in a segment of the hobby that had very little trade support. They also acted as talking shops before the advent of social media, in fact I'd suggest that their main purpose was to bring like minded modellers together and point them in the direction of manufacturers more than actually provide products themselves.

Currently I'd debate whether there is a need for a conventional society along the lines of the two I mention. I do feel that it's too early in the development of the scale for a specific society and I can't see it doing anything more than the FB pages are already doing. The only concern I have is that too many FB groups are being set up, but that just seems to be how FB works! The one possibility would be a gauge specific forum along the lines of the German TT one, but again it would seem that forums are becoming overtaken by FB groups for better or worse.

It's actually been one for even longer than that in the former eastern bloc - Zeuke (which later became Berliner TT Bahnen, the remains of which were bought by Tillig) started making TT in 1959.

1957 if I remember correctly, and Rokal was around before them.

  6. I'm not denying their usefulness, Phil, just questioning their need at this stage. At this point I feel the talking shop is more important than the provision of products as long as it doesn't decend into a knocking shop of the scale or manufacturer.

If it does....as some would like to see! That's when you start your own tt120 society aka 3mm society and h0 society etc and you can direct it in the way you want! To be fair think there is justification to start now.....

I think things have moved on since the formation of many of the current societies (3mm, N, 009, etc.), now we see them set up "online" instead, mainly on Facebook, and there already are a couple of TT120 ones I'm a member of as are several others from here whom I recognise. There may well be a society set up in due course, but I'm not convinced there's currently a need.

  8. Perhaps we should have two threads, one to actually discuss Hornby TT1:120 (say this one!) and another for those who just wish to make pointless posts dissing Hornby because they don't like them (or SK!) and have no interest in TT other than wanting to see it fail... It would certainly make this thread a much nicer place...

  9. But other manufacturers suffer the same issues, just look at Heljan, Kato and Bachmann's 009 stuff, plenty of that has gone wrong for the same reasons, Heljan's especially, but there's not the same reaction, it's as if some people just don't like Hornby and go out of their way to criticise whilst ignoring the same shortcomings from others...

Perhaps it's time to accept that none of them are perfect and move on...

  10. Hornby are only doing what most toy train manufacturers have done over the years, namely try to provide enough stuff to "complete" a layout. Hornby (in their early days) started it, Triang did it, Playcraft and many others have done it. I don't understand the anger that seems to come across when the modern Hornby do it! It doesn't prevent other manufacturers make and sell stuff so where's the problem.

I don’t remember these as part of a plastic kit before,

They've been around since the 60s at least, I've made up Vero and Faller kits from that era that use them. Though if you are used to British plastic building kits then that would probably explain it, I certainly don't remember any Airfix kits with them!

  12. For those who say the things can't run together, ever looked at heritage lines recently, not to mention specials? Also if you model the line next to the mainline you can include the modern stuff as well!

  13. Not only that but the stuff they are launching also is known to sell well, most of the stuff listed by Fezza might sell to some enthusiasts but someone just wanting a set to look nice and play with wouldn't choose, for instance, a 170! Once it's established they will (or someone else will) start to sell the sort of stuff he mentions, all of which (other than the 08) I have no interest in whatsoever (which is another point to take into account, what appeals to one person won't always appeal to another)!

Bit embarrassing!  But suppose its not as bad as the loco on the display stand with its tender the wrong way round....

I suspect it was put that way to show the tender footplate detail but they never allowed it far enough round to show it!

Its actually listed in the TT catalogue under Phase 3/4

Thanks, I knew I'd seen it somewhere, that answers the question for Andrew.
