  1. A Day In The Life - The Beatles
  2. Good morning everyone Well, what a change in the weather from yesterday, bright and sunny this morning. I prefer to go to the supermarket myself, Sainsbury’s because it’s less than a mile away and M&S because they have what I can’t get from Sainsbury’s. I by my meat from the butchers, which is where I’m off to in a few minutes. ION, 45 years ago today I became a father for the first time, we’ve just got off the phone to Vickie, who unfortunately isn’t feeling too well at the moment, so we’ll miss actually seeing her today, as she doesn’t want to pass on her lurgie. Back later n Brian
  3. Good evening everyone The weather has been very mixed here today, changing from rain to sunshine several times, so I spent the day in the workshop, continuing work on the small industrial locomotive. Today I completed the cylinders, the coupling rods, the connecting rods and connected both connecting rods to the respective piston rod. The cylinders have also been fixed to the chassis. However, from here on, things became a bit more difficult. The crank pins on the 4 supplied wheels are the same length, and aren’t long enough for both the coupling rod and connecting rod. This isn’t a problem with the front pair, but I’ve had to modify the rear pins. I started by cutting off the pin close to the wheel spokes, then I filed the remains of the stub flat, marked the centre and then drilled a 1.1mm hole down the centre, before removing the stub and soldering a slightly longer 1mm brass pin in the hole to replace the original. These were then reinserted back into the wheel from the rear and fixed with superglue. At this point, I decided to call it a day, so I’ll have to check all is well next time I go to the workshop.
  4. Brass In Pocket - The Pretenders
  5. Good morning everyone Well, I think we chose the right 2 days to go out, it’s wet outside, so I doubt I’ll get anything done in the garden today! So, it looks like a day in the workshop for me then, 😉 every cloud and all that! However, my first task will be to drop Sheila off at the church hall for her Zumba class, then I’ll search my ‘model boxes for some card I want for another little project. After that, it’s down the garden to the workshop. Back later. Brian
  6. Beyond The Edge - Dan Fogelberg
  7. Good evening everyone We’ve had another good day out today, lots of sunshine, even though there was a cool breeze. Disappointingly, the orchard area was closed, due to the ground being waterlogged, but we still managed to see some of the blossom. When we went to the cafe, it was closed for a refurbishment, but the did have a small temporary one in use, so we didn’t miss out on a drink or a slice, but FFS, it’s only 2 years old! We also came home with some more plants for the garden (and some more seeds), so, weather permitting, I think I’m going to be busy tomorrow. As anticipated, we spent the rest of the afternoon, relaxing and reading. We also did a spot of eyelid inspection too, I think all this fresh air is making us tired!
  8. I suspect getting the plumber was the hard part.
  9. Good morning everyone Another sunny start to the day here in the northwest corner of England, although it has suddenly gone very cloudy! The plan for today is to head off to RHS Bridgewater for a walk in the gardens, hopefully we’ll see the apple trees in blossom and we might even get a walk through the woods too. Of course after all that activity, we’ll need some sort of refreshment, so it would be very rude not to have a drink and a slice before we head back home. There are no firm plans for the afternoon, so a spot of reading might be in order. Back later. Brian
  10. Best Of My Love - The Eagles
  11. Good evening everyone It seems like quite a while since I’ve done an evening post, but lately it seems that there aren’t enough hours in the day and I just couldn’t seem to find the time to post, keeping up with everyone else was enough. Anyway, back to today, we had some great weather, sunshine but a bit of a cool wind. Despite that, we had a lovely walk at Dunham Massey, we saw lots of deer and plenty of birds (the feathered variety), but nothing unusual. This afternoon Charlie did come round, a bit later than usual, due to him getting his days mixed up! As usual, he continued working on his current model, whilst I built the chassis of what will be a small industrial 0-4-0 locomotive. I built the gearbox the other day and today I was able to install and test it the chassis. It ran well, but will benefit from running in, which I’ll do over the weekend. I also started modifying the body of an old Hornby loco to fit the chassis, but there’s still a bit of work to do there.
  12. Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar
  13. Good morning everyone I’m another one who has had measles and worked in a noisy environment, I also have tinnitus, a high pitch whining in my ears, you just get used to it. It’s looking a little overcast with the odd bit of sunshine today, so we’re going to chance having a walk in the grounds of Dunham Massey, with the possibility of a drink and a slice whilst there. This afternoon Charlie is calling round, as he can’t come on Thursday, so I’ve an afternoon in the workshop to look forward too as well. Back later. Brian
  14. Good morning everyone I don’t know what happened over the weekend, but it just got away from me, it’s just Ben busy, busy ,busy here. Needless to say I’ve not even tried to catch up on what others have posted since Saturday night. I was hoping to get some more work done in the garden today, but the overnight rain might have put paid to that, I see how the ground is when I go out later. Best get in with it, back later. Brian
