  1. I like the gauge master prodigy 2 BUT is there a DCC system (knob based) that allows control of two locos without switching anything - ie with 2 knobs?? Sorry if this has been covered just found this thread as the prodigy 2 is once again frustrating me but only really for this specific reason.
  2. HELP please - my "walkaround" unit LCD screen has started misbehaving and displaying rubbish. Is this a known problem?? Is there a known fix??
  3. Agreed - I was persuaded by the same advisors to adopt a "diagonal" philosophy to maximise the length of station platforms and it works and I'm very glad I did it. "Hawkesbury" has evolved considerably since the plan below but the stations and the loops have remained a constant and the more I look at it possibly the only one! "Home goods" is still there but everything else has either gone or been changed. The 3 carriage sidings have only just gone for reasons of access due to advancing age and difficulty in keeping the tracks operationally clean enough.
  4. View Advert Peco SL-87 - used but undamaged - open to OFFERS?? See pictures - it has been very lightly spray painted but with the mechanism and track masked off , this could be cleaned off. Fully working as new it was only on a siding which has now been removed. Advertiser halsey Date 16/12/23 Price £12 Category OO / 4mm scale
  5. Hi Rob, As I haven't visited for a while not sure how much of my layout planning stuff and photos still survive - EDIT - I've just had a look and not much of the early stuff exists but later shots will give you an idea of the back scenes mentioned below Glad to see you have @Chimer, @DCB and @Harlequin in your corner (amongst others) as I couldn't have succeeded without their help - I cant believe I'm now giving advice to others!! 🙃. For back scenes I can't "big up" ID back scenes enough, with Hawkesbury I went for the ones pre-mounted on card, more expensive but MUCH better than the SA option I used on my first layout The bad news, now I have found you, is I will be watching - I loved the Jinty's new home pulling 12 wagons - great stuff it always was a great little loco. J

  8. Hi, My first day back to the railway this "winter" and I'm faced with the annual issue - cleaning and hoovering (which I admit I don't enjoy at all) My question is do you stick your card kits in place to make this process easier or does it? Any suggestions based on real experiences would be good. If the answer is YES what method do you use - a blob of silicone sealant feels like a sensible idea?? I have attached a general picture to give a feel for my layout which as you can see isn't heavily "modelled/landscaped" but is pretty "full" Thanks in advance for your time/thoughts J
  9. Just a couple more pics as this evolves - I'm very pleased I made the changes and its given me fresh impetus to do more - you can just see the beginning of my first fencing attempts (post and wire) Thanks for looking J
  10. Update - this is as far as I will go with it for now ................. I think the "flavour" is right J
  11. That's why I went for this solution as it won't have any masts rig etc to cause that problem.........😉
  12. Just put the hull in place to get an idea and I think it looks do-able The archive photo gives an idea of the look I'm going for.............(eventually!) J
  13. Yes the provenance was really my point - not the price which was a bonus! The general price for the Airfix is app £60 but this was cheap as the transfers were missing 😉 J
  14. Here is an update just to show I'm still alive even though I remain disappointed so many threads have lost their value due to loss of pictures........ My new lift out section (see other thread) remains the best £200 I have spent on the layout as it has enabled the retention of the current "round the room" layout philosophy which to me is/was very important The 009 running issues seem to have been completely solved by firstly selling/returning the locos which were never going to run properly and retaining in a velvet glove the one loco which runs like a dream Also the frog juicers have worked 100% - my thanks to Coastal for selling me one on sale or return to show their faith in them - don't ask me how they work but they do! In an attempt to revive my interest/spirits here is the beginning of the remodel of the engine shed area - why did I decide to do it?? - my age/dexterity is getting in the way of "hand of god" movements (and re-railing steam locos) so I wanted to remove a good proportion of the layout devoted to goods movements - for me this has already worked and additionally provided some fresh modelling opportunities. This is still very embryonic but IMHO it is looking good so far................... If you review the attached plan I have linked the headshunt and the turnout on the LH "end" of the bridge to add another "loop" modelled as a one way branch "through" station and then used the main line feed to the loco shed as the feed to the new docks edge which will be a simple runaround single track arrangement Cheers - I can't believe its been a year since my last post - thankfully a pretty good one! Update photo attached
  15. I'm actually thinking (seriously) that I might build a PT109 on the basis that in period it is a army surplus buy for an ex sailor to convert to a house boat so it will be in primer and rust and missing some military bits VERY loosely Hawkesbury is post war Kit is under £20 on "the rain forest" (Amazon!) JUST agreed an offer on ebay for a "transfer" parts missing Airfix Vosper so much better and only £15 Amazon order cancelled.
  16. We are on the same page which is why I think this one might just work (as pictured above) BUT I do want experienced opinions - I like it because its the kit I would happy to build at the right price - I can find a physically larger but perfect scale within the Billings range (St Roch) but its £150 Billing Boats Rainbow This shrimp cutter is a typical cutter from the 1960's used for catching shrimp off the German, Dutch and Danish coasts. The equipment on board includes the necessary shrimp sieves and cookers for immediate preparation of the catch. Scale 1:60 Length 28cm Beam 9cm Height: 23.6cm This kit features: ABS hull, wooden decking and superstructure with plastic fittings, mast and spars in ramin, rigging cord in various sizes. Includes Full size plan sheets and an instruction manual with English Text. If cabin height and doors are altered do you feel the rest would work?
  17. That's about right - thanks! Right selection but resin I really wanted a wooden kit Are "we" saying that my 1:60 find isn't going to work??
  18. I always think Langley are a bit pricey and if possible I do want a wooden kit that is worth building in its own right if I can find one - "one I built earlier!"
  19. Hi, I am wanting to model a fishing harbour/general dock scene on "Hawkesbury" BUT whilst I've got a big enough physical space I can only find a 1:60 scale fishing boat that's fits the bill. Does anyone know any other kits out there that are worth building in their own right Comments

  21. FYI see below for an excellent reply from Bachmann and within 24 hrs - enabled me to investigate and resolve all now working perfectly The motor bogie should be picking up power from the track as well. The pickup strips take the power from the axle bearings and can come adrift thereby losing connection. It would be worth checking that the pickup strips are all located correctly and that the bearings are clean as a small amount of dirt could prevent the contact working. You could also apply power directly to the pickups to see if the issue is with the contact on the bearings and axles or if the problem is with the PCB contact. The PCB has two brass strips that contact the pickups on the bogie tower, one of these could have become distorted or turned to one side slightly thus preventing contact. This can be checked by removing the body to access the bogie mounting screw to detach the bogie. With the bogie removed you will be able to see the contact strips and may be able to see if they are out of place. You may be able to see this by just removing the bogie frame but is easier to see by removing the body. If they are misaligned, it may be possible to correct this by just removing the bogie but is easier by removing the motor assembly exposing the top of the PCB. J
  22. Hi, I've just bought one of these from a well known website and it is in great condition and runs really well - I just have a novice query as it only seems to pick up electrical power from the non-motorised bogie which then feeds the motor - the motorised bogie doesn't seem to pick up power on either axle is this how they are built or (god forbid) have I bought a dud! Thanks J

  25. View Advert Offers Invited - VG for spares or possible repair - Bachmann LMS lined black Stanier Mogul 2965 31-690 This is way beyond my skills (and also not a favourite loco of mine) hence offered for sale here. I haven't photographed the entire loco as she is 9/10 and a VERY good runner and in VG general condition BUT - she has always had a problem which has manifested itself today such that I can now understand it - happy to send more info. See photo of the problem - the "pushrod end" isn't properly retained by the (damaged?) screw hence the "end" falls off in use and the loco derails - it might be an easy repair for someone with skills knowledge and the right bits but its not something I want to get involved in, I am guessing the previous owner probably "messed" with it before selling it to me on ebay!! Ironically it is VG and a VG runner (normally used on DCC) - DC now reinstated and tested with power to wheels - all seems OK . Everything else is in great condition Body Tender Motor etc etc so a very good spares proposition as well VG box and additional detail pack still intact FYI they are £125 new DCC ready.
