  1. Hello folks .I have got in order a new Hornby TTS class 20 sound decoder . My intention is to install it into a "Dummy" bachman class 20 thats had its motor and gears removed to make it" free - running ...this will be coupled and run with another bachman class 20 fitted with a "non-sound" chip .. My question is this; would this set up work if i were to place " both" loco's on the program track and give them both the same address ( ie..2020 ) . Wouldn't this be the same as installing both decoders into the same loco and " piggybacking " them?? I understand , by reading various forums maggs etc, that i must have a motor "load"connected for any decoder to work properly?? OR can i safely just put the dummy loco on the layout ( with no motor ) and use the sounds in it without blowing up my decoder?? Any feedback would be most welcome Thanks in advance Allan
  2. Thanks for your help gents . After building a seperate programing section on my layout ( so as not to accedently program ALL my loco at once on the layout ) i have now managed to change the address of this troublesome machine by programing it with the NCE " on the MAIN " ....All now works fine with a NEW address asigned !! Thanks again ...
  3. Hi folks ; I have a niggling problem with an Hornby class 37 TTS sound fitted Hornby loco ... All works fine from the box and i managed to reprogram the address from the default of 3 ....i have sinse changed the body on this loco , so naturally want to change its address to match the new body !! This is where the problems start. It refuses point blank to change from address 3 ...all functions still work ( sounds and movement ).... I use an prodigy express on a program track..i also have a Dynamis system and an NCE powercab NONE of the above will rrprogram said loco ...Ive even done a decoder reset , now it appears locked into address N°3!!..... Any ideas would be welcomed . Thanks Allan
  4. Yes , thinking about it , your properly rite ...thanks again
  5. Hi gents; Thank you all very much for the detailed and informative help and advice to the questions asked about my N.C.E system. After rechecking through all the posts and following the advice given ;i appear to have solved the problem !!!! I HOPE !! It seams that i had somehow got the two handsets mixed up .i was in fact trying to use the 1;28 version as the "power cab" ( set to address 3 ) and the other handset ( version 1:68 ) as the "slave" throttle ,set to address 2 !!! Having "swapped " over the handsets and double-checked the displays to be certain ; i have now marked the cabs so their is NO mistaking them anymore !!! ( this will teach me NOT to try to control model railways while "dog -tired" after midnight !!! ) I plugged the system in to the wall socket and let it "power-up" and after a few seconds i then plugged the second handset into the same control panel( using the coiled lead ) and waited for it to power up also. Hey Presto !! i entered an loco address and not only got movement at the throttle , but all function and sounds too !! At last making me one very happy modeler !! THANK-YOU once again for all your help, advice and patience gents in getting this issue resolved . Kind regards Allan P.S I use my mobile to access this site mostly ,is there a way of deleting this entire conversation now its resolved ??? OR is it perhaps best left on here ,to possibly be of some help to others at some point ?? Thanks again...
  6. Second cab works fine as stand alone " powercab " , so is not seemingly faulty!!!
  7. Hi bromsmods The second cab is version 1:28 . The " master" ( powercab ) is version 1:68 .... It don't seam to matter if I plight them both in at once. Or plug the second cab in after a little pause ...it won't run anything !! Ave already set a delay on the second cab .... My location is near Abergele north Wales....
  8. Thanks Bromsgrove mods ....this is exactly what I have done , but the second cab won't run anything !!!
  9. Thanks 10, 000 My problem is that only One of my handsets is the new 1:65 version. The other cab is the older 1:28 edition . SO ...I will need to buy a new chip to upgrade my second cab.. Many thanks for your help Allan
  10. Hi Folks I have a NCE powercab system and have asked on the forum here if I can use a second powercab handset Purley as a throttle using the coiled cable...??? All replies said that I should be able to do so .. HOWEVER I can't get my second cab to power a loco !! It lights up etc ( Ave even changed its address to NO 3 ) but it just won't do anything !! Its plugged into the same master panel as the main powercab handset ( red led type)... Is this my problem??? HELP...many thanks ..
  11. using an extra UTP panel for the connection). Hi Folks; Ave hooked everything up and used the curly lead plugged into the right hand socket on the main ( red led ) panel ..with the main powercab plugged into the left socket using the flat 6 wire cable ... I have changed the cab address for the slave to NO 3 ..... The main cab works great ad it always has ; however I carnt get the slave powercab to run a train although the display lights up !!! Must I use one of these UTP. panel things to make things work ??
  12. Thanks very much for your detailed and informative reply SR MAN .. My system is indeed the old 1:28 version and so too is the proposed spare cab ..I don't plan to expand more than the one "slave" cab anyway ....but like you say , simple enough to upgrade to version 1:65 with the purchase of a new Eprom chip at some point from the likes of digitrains etc.... Many thanks again Allan
  13. Hi Ravenser; Not sure what you mean by "lag" on the second cab ...?? You mean there will be a delay between any throttle change made and the locomotive actually responding ??
  14. Thanks tender .I will be changing the address of the second cab .
  15. Hi Folks..I have an N.C.E Powercab system ( handset , panel, 6 wire lead and power pack).....I am considering using a second powercab handset ( on special offer to me ) by using the coiled 4 wire cable purely as a second throttle .... Would this idea work , or does it have to be one of these 06 cab things Ave heard about ?? Thanks Allan
  16. Hi Folks; I have an N.C.E. Powercab with its instruction manual.Although I can see this stuff is made in the states , nowhere in" the book of wods" Does it state what the initials N.C.E stand for !! Can anyone enlighten me ?? Just curious that's all ...Many thanks . Allan PS..I've even searched online and so far drawn a blank !!!
  17. Hi guys .thanks for all your help and advice ...my powercab is indeed showing up as version V 1.28 SO therfore needs a new chip from the likes of digitrains ... ( the info flashes up on the handset for just milliseconds, that's why I kept missing it ).. Thanks again .....
  18. Thanks guys .I will have to check out your advice when I return home .I will let ya know how I get on .
