  1. Here's the story of my latest Hattons order.  I placed my order online on 21 October.  I selected Royal Mail (cheapest method other than surface mail).  As I live in the U.S. the site states average transit time 5 days.  On 23 October I received an email that my items had been picked and were placed in a box addressed to me.  The box was on my doorstep today when I got home from work (1 November).  That makes it 11 days from time ordered.  Transit time 7 or 8 days.  Considering most of the area (Rhode Island and other parts of New England) was without electricity Monday with half still out yesterday, I consider this pretty timely (remember 5 days is average).  While I haven't kept track of the time taken on previous orders, in my mind less than two weeks across the Atlantic using the most inexpensive shipping method next to surface mail (I think the quote is 2 years average transit time lol) is ok by me.  Hattons has done right by me since I first started playing with "British stuff" several years ago and hopefully they're back on track.  :)

  2. Paul,

While I do love your scene in its entirely, I have to say that your figures simply blow me away.  The painting of them is superb - I had to make sure you weren't making a 1/24 diorama.  Perhaps a tutorial on your method?

  3. Excellent story, but does this cast me in the role of Mr Miyagi?

Well, kinda, yeah.  Guys like you encourage guys like me to learn new things, expand my comfort zone and to feel OK, that I'm still learning.  :)

    Hi all,

    Interesting ideas on here!

My thoughts were 'Modular Cake Box Layout'....

Do a series of entries that meet the 'fit in a Cake Box' rule and join them together.

Could be worse - If it was 'fit on a dinner plate' - how many gravy train entries would there be!

    Thanks

    Kinda like a cake-mo layout?

  4.  In this competition, only those who enter stand a chance of winning, along with the fame and glory that will go with it.

When he was about 8 or so years old my son had a martial arts instructor.  We went to an out of town tournament and my son finished 5th of the 5 that entered.  In fact, he didn't do well at all. He was quite bummed out.  His instructor said, yes, "you were fifth at the tournament, but you were brave enough to go and compete in front of all those people" (he was quite new at the sport).  "And", he said, "you did better than the hundreds who were too scared to try."  I'm not sure wiser words were ever spoken.  While I may not have remembered the correct wordage, the spirit of that pep talk has kept with me.

  5. I've decided that instead of fighting what I can't, I'll leverage the time and effort ebay and facebook spend to my own advantage.  A month or so before my birthday and Christmas I make it a point to do some heavy duty searches of some power tools that I've been eyeing as well as whatever train related stuff we're likely to run into at the next show (there's a large one in Springfield Mass right after Christmas).  Works like a charm!
