  1. Railex has been the best exhibition for years that I can get to and as always looks to be an outstanding line up.

With events disappearing and layouts dropping off the circuit due to many factors I’m sure we are all aware of, the organisers must be congratulated on putting this together and working to overcome difficulties presented. Too hot. Too wet. Too cold. We have to accept that there will always be a limit to what can be done - if anything, given that as stated above there is no alternative venue.

I for one am looking forward to Railex24

  2. I am saddened to see this news as Warley used to be one of the highlights of the year for me, falling as it did around my birthday on the 25th.

I say used to be, because I very reluctantly had to stop going 2 years ago as my own ageing and crumbling process meant I was no longer up to the rigours of Warley with all the walking and standing involved, so I have enormous sympathy for the club members who have themselves seemingly reached this point.

Thank you Warley members, both present and past for putting on such a spectacle each year to celebrate my birthday.

The great shame of being retired, no more weekends, nothing to look forward to. When to open the wine, oh dear.

And we don’t get the benefit of Bank Holidays

    Hi,

when the stroke happened I was hospitalised for 13 weeks.  I used to walk, cycle and play golf besides working and looking after my daughter and doing stuff around the house.  As I saw it I had 2 choices:  give up, wallow in self-pity not being able to what I used to be able to do or, crack on, don't regret anything, make the best of a bad job, and be happy!  I've lived on my own the past 15 years, do housework, I'm a fair cook, get out and about and build model trains amongst other things!  When I'm out and about some people are amazed of what I can do for myself, but I think it's nothing unusual for me.  Three years ago I met a wonderful women, who thinks I'm, a bit stubborn!  She wants to help me with a lot of things but I find it hard letting some-one help me after coping alone for so long!  I'll get there!

    Roja

Let her in Roja. Let her in. I spent years of my life behind my barriers and met a lady who wanted to break them down and I’m so glad I did and she has enriched my life beyond measure.

    Lets start an adventure today.

    Let's go on....

The slow freight to Little Muddle.

So to start off, courtesy of the Squadron Leader, we start our journey at Encombe Town station where our train is waiting for the off.

The star of our adventure will be 9319 and some of his mixed freight wagons friends in tow.

Passengers of Railcar No.8 get ready to wave us off.

I didn’t realise trains had different speed classifications. I thought everything was slow.

May I add my thanks to you all for the show.  Despite being my third visit, the programme, and the new 'You are here' maps, I still got hopelessly lost and disorientated, missing Lecture Rooms 1 & 2 until an hour before departure.  Bought my Xmas present - Mr Larkin's v. 1 of Speedlink wagons - and a few other bits, and was delighted by what a broad church the hobby is.  I hope everyone else enjoyed themselves as much.  Thanks again.  Roll on Warley.

You are not alone. Whilst I didn’t get there this year I regularly get lost at this show and marvel at how much I see after the event on YouTube showing what I missed.

  7. Excellent portrayal of the tarpaulins roping Kevin. Can I ask what adhesive you use please? Despite using cocktail sticks I seem to get in a heck of a mess.

And yes before I fall foul of the collective wit on here I do take the cherry and little umbrella off before using the stick

    Lets have a wagon day.

A few weeks ago I realised that I only had a few GW open wagons so thought I ought to sort this issue out so over the last few weeks additional rolling stock has arrived.

So here is the currant situation with open top company vehicles being pulled by 9319, which I think looks a very balanced loco.

    Starting at the front.

Two Cambrian Models ballast wagon kits

    Dapol RTR 20t coal wagon

Ratio Open C (S/H kit) which was going to have a load of pipes on board but the interior planking came out rather well (IMHO) so will stay for now.

Three Ratio 5 planker's two covered and one with a sand load (all S/H kits)

Two Cambrian Models steel sided wagon kits - one open (this will have a load but not decided what...yet!) and the last one with a mixed load.

And bringing up the rear a very old Hornby Toad

At the moment I think that will do but I do enjoy building them as they are rather short projects so no doubt more will be added.

I really enjoy building and weathering wagons and also making loads for them.

Wagon building, or stripping and redoing them, is a great mojo restorer when enthusiasm dips.

  9. I have built many things using Scalescenes kits as a base and they are easily adaptable to make into something completely different. Like Ben says, Prit Stick and similar are also my preferred adhesives as I find the Deluxe glue too messy.

I do like the Scale Model Scenery wall though, and have just the spot for it, but it’s just a shame they don’t do matching goods yard style gates which is rather holding me back until I find something suitable.

There are many former trainspotters that stood too close to Deltics pulling away and now they find it difficult to hear much of what their wives say to them !😊

I once came up with an anatomical theory that at the conclusion of a wedding ceremony, all males automatically start to grow inner ear flaps, which automatically lower to protect their male whenever their wife’s instructions/correctional guidance/exhortations to get on with the jobs list she prepared, or can I say nagging 😱 reaches a certain level.

The triggering of said flaps can also be augmented by the occasional interjection of the phrase “yes dear” on the rare occasions when the dearly beloved pauses for breathe.

Here endeth the wisdom of a divorced man who now has two bedrooms full of trains and layouts.

As seen from the creamery office window earlier this week Hardwick Grange passing by.

I've only just got this picture as it took a while for the Manager to get the picture back from being chemists developed?

Goodness. Way back when I remember it used to take a fortnight to get photos developed and even then sometimes they weren’t back even then.

The courier firms all have the measures in place to stop misdeeds by their drivers. And have had for many years.

But it is a tough job and some drivers will always bend/break the rules to try and make the job bearable/financially viable.

Hermes did have a shocking reputation, hence the rebranding. When I lived in Dorset, our local Hermes driver was  excellent.

What amazes me is that Hermes rebranded to Evri yet persist in saying Evri previously Hermes. Really don’t understand the logic there.
