I'm told such wagons used to pong a bit in hot weather. How much the lime disinfectant the GWR used masked this I don't know but I do wonder how long it will be before someone enterprising tries to recreate odours in our models. A few years ago, I used to sell https://www.gaugemasterretail.com/deluxe-materials-dlac-21.html but haven't seen any other products of railway smells. We have sound and steam, microelectronics (such as those in that working HO cyclist), so smells for an extra dimension? Though the recreation of the 'aromas' from cattle wagons might not be too popular with the domestic authorities!
I remember a video produced by the Market Deeping team iirc where their layout included a stables including the subsequent mucking out heap. When asked about adding aromatics the reply was that they could usually rely on one or 2 of the operators to oblige.

Available in N from two different sources, though I don't know if the 3d-printer still does theirs. I forge the name of the outfit. They wouldn't ship to the USA, and that was some 10 years ago!. Other is Osborn's Models own range.
@chuffinghell might be coaxed into modeling it...
You may be thinking of Etched Pixels here as I’m currently building one of their milk brakes. Sadly they closed for business earlier this year, so I was lucky in getting mine as so far there’s been no news of anyone picking the range up.

As its a ploughing engine what would the second engine be called as they work as matched pairs... Serenity?
Well acknowledging the fact that this is Little Muddled maybe another option would be Sedately.

I suppose the thrill of Andy's live music gigs and their audience is, in a way, not too dissimilar to showing and operating your layout at a show, something Andy no longer does, which might be where the lack of modelling mojo comes from.
Nah. He just like grannie pants being flung at him. I doubt that would have happened at a railway exhibition

You can’t beat a ‘Graze at Greggs’ 🤣
Totally agree with that. Is there one near the Stadium or is it a diversion into town?

They are empty so must taking the mystery load from Buccaneer?
Wasn’t Buccaneer suspected of smuggling cannonballs originally?

Circumstances dictated I wasn't able to get there this year. In the past we (travelling up from Devon) have adopted the practice of starting a bit earlier and stopping for breakfast en-route.
Despite the effortless cruising ability of my Yeti, I've decided I'm past driving 168 miles up and the same back in the day, and being mainly on my feet in between.
Next year, it'll be a hotel job!

I remember the good old days of turning off into a Little Chef on route. Always had to be An Olympic breakfast and a coffee. Now that was a breakfast.

This show has been my “must see” show for many a long day and I must say today didn’t disappoint in any way. I think one of the strengths of this show is that it is for modellers layouts and not for train sets hurtling around at breakneck speed past every flickering or blinking light effect available.
I was particularly pleased with a higher than usual percentage of 2mm offerings all of which were in a word. Exquisite.
The only downer has been mentioned above but leaving home early and arriving around 9.30 I too was disappointed to find no breakfast offerings - which I fully understand is not in the clubs control but, a few beans and some remnants of tinned tomatoes being the only option at 9.30 other than sandwiches or sweets. Really?
I do remember a few years ago being told that breakfasts finish at 8.30 but more recently the stadium had sorted that but I’m guessing I’m not going to be alone in thinking something better is needed for the travelling public next year

He, She or It? All the same to me - living, breathing beasties...
Now weathering does matter to me. It brings models to life, allows the muse to serve your endeavours to create a scene. I hope the below illustrate that :
A humble BR steel Medfit, full of skanky, waste ballast.
An auld LMS Highfit, seeing out its days humping waste ballast.
A venerable, battered Grampus awaits its next duty.
An auld, fitted LMS Medfit, now with the Engineers Dept.
Another bashed up, former LMS Highfit; this time, in the service of the S&T Dept.
All this stock is runs on Mostyn. So what, it's P4, does that make it better? No; however, each item is an individual, part of the overall creation.
Talking of which, back to the workdesk. More scuzzy, decrepit, filthy stock needs finishing...
Living breathing beasties - surely makes em female

I recently made a rake of various box vans. Painted transfers and varnish then a bit of weathering. Looking round for storage space and in a flurry of draw opening found a draw of box vans I cleary didn’t realise I had.
Like you however I shuddered as, let us just say they were not up to todays standards but in fact that’s not a problem as I will happily spend an hour or few stripping them down and refinishing them.
I do in fact find that to be one of the most enjoyable aspects of the hobby and as has been said you can never have enough wagons.

Exquisite models as always Jason and great to see you’re back. Such a shame that Bacup is no more. That was a great model.

Really interesting to read the posts a few pages ago about the disposal of David Jenkinson’s layout. He has always been an inspiration for me - with others of course, and I was so pleased when this popped up today on my YouTube feed as recommended for me.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable watch this evening accompanied by a bottle of Malbec and so pleasing for me as the only footage I’ve seen of this layout was on the Peco tribute DVD.I just need to work out how I can work in his Hidden Wine Company warehouse on to one of my layouts.
I’m thinking this will be a three bottle problem as I model in N 😀

On the subject of insurance (and I think I'm right in my understanding here):
If you insure a collection for £5000 when it's actually worth double that then, in the event of total loss (a fire, for example) the Insurance Company will only pay out £2500 as you were under-insured.
From my pre pensioner dark days when I worked, I can confirm that you are correct in that statement.
That fact caused me some head scratching many years ago when I set up a spreadsheet on which I itemised locos with their purchase cost, and also coaching stock against MRP or a best guess. Chuck in several hundreds of wagons and hit Autosum and I was astonished at the total.
As most of my collection is weathered and so trashed, and a lot is irreplaceable as no longer around even on EBay putting a £ on a collection is a bit akin to being blindfolded and told to pin the tail on the donkey and all this before you count and put a figure on points, buildings and electrics.
With the last few years constant price hikes from China I dread to think what that value should be but as said above the true value is the pleasure my trains gives and has given me over the years and in deference to anno domini I no longer buy kits and put them in the third draw down, I now buy and build, and am also working my way through my accumulated stash.

And there’s so much to see in the photo that the occasional glimpse over the edge of the world hardly matters and certainly doesn’t detract.

LOUGHBOROUGH SHOW 12 /13 AUGUST 2023 30 Layouts, 20 Trade plus Demo's

My first time to Loughborough and this must be one of the most picturesque venues around with some stunning old trees around the car park I was in.
Enjoyed seeing some old favourites and some new to me and it was nice to see a good selection of N
One small suggestion for next year, but being on borrowed time as they say,I would have appreciated a few more seats in hall 4. I only saw 2 near the door and they were both occupied.
