  1. If you look at the first reply to my original post there's a link that will take you to it. Paul.
  2. Yes, those things were suggested to me a good while back by Tony Wright, especially the point about the boiler. What then Wickham do you make of the PDK kit? Paul.
  3. Thank you to those of you who have responded to my post. A couple of years ago I bought the DJH version thinking it was a D1 but reading up on it it would seem that their model is actually an E1. This was put together by somebody who I was told was a very good modeller but unfortunately that was not the case. The model was never finished and I had a devils own job getting it back. When I did retrieve it I found that there were several issues the main one being the twisted chassis. He had obviously put it together on an uneven surface and such was the state of the construction it could not be rectified. A very good loco man tried in vain to put things right but it just was not possible. I have contacted PDK so maybe I will look into getting their kit. Does anybody know of a good builder who would take this on please? Paul.
  4. Thank you Pete. I actually bought the DJH model about three years ago and somebody was building it for me as a D1. Unfortunately it never came off as he let me down very badly but had it been a runner on my layout from what you say I would have unknowingly been running an E1 as a D1. I'm sure it wouldn't have been very long before somebody pointed it out. I still have it uncompleted but try as I have I can't find anybody to salvage it. If I could then I would have an E1. Paul.
  5. Thanks for that Jason. What are the differences between the D1 and E1 (if there are any). I see that the DJH kit is labelled as being both so am I right in thinking that they were one and the same? Paul.
  6. Are there any 00 scale versions of the E1 4-4-0 loco on the market? I can't find any RTR examples so I guess it would be in kit form. Paul.
  7. Apparently Ron that would work as such as Graham Warner mentioned using it as a slave when I asked him about it a few weeks ago. What does that mean exactly?
  8. I have a ZTC 611 and have thought about getting a 511 as there are a few available at the moment. Would there be any advantages of having a second controller on the layout, if so what would they be please? I'm asking this because I don't have a great understanding or knowledge of electrics. Paul C.
  9. The last post on this is now over two years old and nothing further has emerged which is a bit concerning. I've no idea as to what is happening with ZTC. Graham did say that news of substantive progress was imminent but that was some months ago now.
  10. Are there any shops/small companies out there who fit coach lighting? I have a couple of sets of birdcage and a number of Mk 1's that need doing. I know there's a knack to this so it would be a good idea to have it done by somebody with experience. Paul.
  11. Does anybody know when the sound fitted models will be sent out. Paul.
  12. Robin, I have a working model of the Kingsferry Bridge (Isle of Sheppey) and it's carved from European oak so it's nice and sturdy. The wood finish looks great (if you're a woodturner) but I want to paint it in "concrete". If I had that self same formula that you've applied to your gate posts it will look absolutely spot on. The gates are also made and I have the servers for them so hopefully I can get them hooked up to operate similar to yours. Paul.
  13. Robin, Can you remember what paint you used please? Paul.
  14. I've noticed from a number of photos that the Sulzer 2 Class 24s didn't appear to display headcodes and window blinds, was this generally the case? If not which ones would have been applied around the Faversham/Sittingbourne area please? Paul.
  15. Kelvin, how did you achieve the concrete effect for the level crossing gate posts?
  16. Kelvin, where did you get the phone box from, can you remember the make by any chance? I need one for my model fire station and that's the best I've seen to date. Paul.
  17. Well I'm pleased to say that things have steadily moved on and my model is now well on the way to being built. I found some good photos on the John Laing site showing the colourings required. The model is being adapted somewhat to make it more like those seen around the late 1950's/60's. Once printed and painted I'm sure that it will blend in with the layout. Paul.
  18. Thanks Walrus, I've just found exactly what I needed. Good on yer! Paul.
  19. I take it you have a copy of the Locoshed book, is it the Ian Allan version? I've just searched and found two or three different types. Paul.
  20. I also need guidance regarding the class 25s as I'm not sure when these came into being. I will certainly get a copy of the Locoshed book.
  21. I have a class 24 that I would like to get renumbered in accordance with any that would have been working the Sheerness/Sittingbourne/Faversham area around 1959/60. Any suggestions please? Paul.
  22. Thank you Ian, I'll have a search and see what I can find.
  23. Thank you becasse, I might have got it wrong but I'm sure that Sittingbourne had announcements made by that lady with the nice voice starting around '69 'ish. I left school in 1971 and used to travel home from Deal on leave and they were definitely in place then and had been for a little while if I'm not mistaken. Paul.
  24. I couldn't quite make out the last part of his announcement, did he say "join the last four carriages for Canterbury East and Dover Priory"?
