One of the things you will all need to bear in mind is that last nights show wasn't the first to be filmed. It was, in fact, the last heat filmed. They are being aired in the heat order: 5, 2, 3, 1, 4. So last nights show is the most polished in terms of production and judging. Decisions made in what you saw on Friday night were based on the experience of 12 or so days of doing other heats and the production company learning what needs to be done, what to shoot, what to ask, how things work. So much stuff that was actually filmed has been left out and they were really cramming in the bits of the programme to make it all fit.  But as with all things commercial television based, you have 48ish minutes 

Most of the questions asked have had an answer. But a few notes I'll add as a competitor; The layouts were taken away after filming.

I would imagine that the winning layout will be exhibited at Warley as it is two weeks after the final airs, but that is an assumption. Mattford (our layout from the heats) will be appearing at the CMRA show in Stevenage January next year, along with Ealing from Missenden (as seen last night).

If you think Missenden interpreted the rules well you wait until you see some of the other scratch build offerings! It's not cheating as I can state the rules did not specify the size of the scratch build items.

I went on the show to try and portray modelling in a favourable light. It's all very well saying they will make a mockery of us and it will ruin the hobby. But unless you do something to try and change that view.... The layout we completed looks very much like a layout 5 people took 3 x 8 hour days building with a very small amount of prep work before hand and I am quite proud of what we achieved. I will properly stand by that in January,

Had an issue with a broken mounting bracket. This took a little time to fix, but that was more down to coordinating schedules than anything else.

I've been searching around the internet trying to find the answer... Some of the nightstar coaches were stored in Canada and easily viewable on google maps. Does anyone know where they were please?

I think it’s a Welwyn Garden City Model Railway club show in the old Campus east hall where the library used to be, before crossing to Campus West. The building had windows like those in the first image, and also parquet herring bone pattern flooring. The crowd barriers were tins filled with concrete and a tube in the middle for a rod with a coil at the top to wind the rope through. As a junior/young member of WGCDMRC I can recall putting them out for exhibitions. I don’t recall those layouts pictured being WGC club layouts but the stock display is Joe Rowes scratchbuilt LNER stock in EM Gauge. Joe’s work was exceptional, museum quality work, and he was president of the WGC club. As to the year, can’t help, but the club was still pretty healthy in the early 80’s with an annual exhibition at the Campus (east) Library.

A long shot to find the year might be through WHT archives if available, they used to plug it every year.

 

Edit: : first image almost certainly shows a Mainline 03 shunting, and Lima GUV’s in the station, their release dates might also help close on the year.

Now someone's (thanks PMP) narrowed it down I can, as a member of the Stevenage and Distric club, ask a few of the De Haviland members if they know anything about it. 1985 is certainly the right ball park as that would make me v early teens, which ties in with the picture,

Hi All,

I'm trying to date a film I've scanned but I just can't seem to work it out. The rest of the film is generic local southern ECML stuff (I lived in Woolmer Green at the time (MP24) and it includes 31174 on Seacows, 47425 on pax. 31154 looking V shiny in railfreight colours.

The only things that might give it some date reference is an exhibition I visited with my dad.

At which we took the following photos. Anyone care to put a year and or month to it?

It's all coming along nicely and hopefully at our meeting at the end of April we can run some trains and I can make some more media.

So things moved on a bit and now we're had another get-together and layout building session. Still far too early to advertise ourselves on the exhibition circuit, but we are making some positives steps towards that goal.

Since this was only the second time the entire layout has been assembled there were a number of items on the snagging list to be fixed from the last meet and quite a number of items added to that list.  Mainly track alignment problems. However, we do seem to have some issues with the third rail and Co-Co locomotives.

There is still plenty of scenic work to be done but that is done on a per board/pair board basis without the need for the entire layout to be set up. And since I spent a lot of the time doing I didn't get a chance to make as much media as I'd have liked. But here are some pictures:

Hope you like the look of things, Whitedown junciton is a DCC controlled layout based on 70s/80s stock, but we do have a range of #Rule1 up to date stock. Size wise we clock in at 7m 25 wide and 5m 25 deep. Any questions please ask.
