  1. Quite good to include something for the future, even though there aren't any sounds for it yet.
  2. I made a quick unboxing video: It's not neat, it's not professional, but it's not that bad. Probably the first and last I'll ever do.
  3. Is there a list of variations of livery, or are just the three being produced? Not sure if I should buy one now or wait until some sort of price drop/sale.
  4. I put a Lenz or Zimo in mine I think. The settings I used will be a few pages back but they work okay for me. But then either I'm not seeing the bad running others have had, or my first was a good one. I ran mine in for about 15 mins either way on DC before chip fitting.
  5. Thought I'd quote this as my post was perhaps a little mis-leading. I had to call to update my card details so was told then. I didn't call especially But good advice (Y)
  6. I find you can lump any ebay seller and Amazon marketplace together in the same category. However, most are fairly useful if something isn't wrong. I've bought about 5 or 6 books from the same seller (albeit under different usernames!) - all suggesting "Very Good" quality yet come with scribbles in them. Usually they just refund as it's not worth their effort in adminstering a return. Just like, and I am a bit sorry to say, it's not worth my effort to take the book to a charity shop so I just recycle it. I've had offers of "buy something else from our website" and the old "we'll send you another free" - both not ideal, but both usually end up in them sending a returns label or just refunding.
  7. Is there a list of what 2nd radius curves means in Hornby's "R" number system? I think my roundy layout has the largest curves Hornby make. But then there's one curve that's nearly a right angle! I'll take a photo later.
  8. What's your favourite part of modelling? I was trying to explain to someone that the actual running of trains is quite far down on my list. 1: Re-motoring 2: Upgrading to LEDs 3: Wiring (not soldering!) 4: Running 5: Soldering 6: Track planning 7: Cleaning I can't think of much more but I bet I'll have missed someone.
  9. I'm certainly not a rivet counter. Just disappointed Bachmann seem to continue to announce new products, yet this one in particular seems to slip and slide with no real priority or control. While I'm not interested in the current 158 model, I don't think even the small (2+ years?) I have been waiting will be worth it, against the current model. I understand smaller companies can get models out quicker as the research guy only has a few products to do, the QC guy only has a few models to check, but perhaps this is where Bachmann has gone wrong - been too greedy and has now ended up spreading their staff too thin. I also understand the production problems... moving factories, other companies within the group taking larger slots... but I'm sure it's down to Bachmann what they announce and when. Back in 2012, perhaps they thought the process would have been a lot quicker as I believe the problems have been fairly recent? But why are Bachmann continuting to announce "new" models when they already have so much on their plate? Fear that someone else will do it (we already have a lot of doubles though!)? I mean, builders can build whole houses quicker, car manufacturers can build cars quicker, and mobile phone makers can even make phones quicker than the time it has taken Bachmann to get this to market. Perhaps Bachmann should look at the Electrostar (375-379) family. Small-ish changes to make other similar classes would give them the breathing space to catch up with everything else. Or drag the Desiro out and use it as a base to make the other units in the family.
  10. Kernow told me they might be able to ship Monday (today!) or Tuesday. Happy to confirm my card has been charged, so I guess it's safe to say by the end of next week it should be here at the latest.
  11. I should have taken photos when I got round to doing mine. I think I ended up using tower LEDs for the smaller white lights and tail lights, while the larger light used the original light pipe, but I sanded the top of the larger LED so it was flat and super glued them together.
  12. This has to be a record for the longest manufacturing process... I can wait another two years for a Central Trains one.
  13. If she looks old (sorry), any decent ticket office would just do it for her. I would, but I don't think the Midlands is close enough
  14. Maybe the guys hobby is working with data? I kept supermarket reciepts from 2018 to compile them into a list so I could see how much I spent. Not only that, but how many times I visited a particular supermarket, how many times I went shopping in any given month, what the most expensive month was, the lowest... I wouldn't call that a hobby and while overall, I wish I didn't bother, while messing about with the data, I somewhat "enjoyed" myself Just like I am doing with digitalizing old insurance documents, old P45s and P60s... as well a making a quick-look document so I can see reference numbers of mortgages, insurances... all boring but I like working with data. Shame Bachmann aren't doing a Central Trains 158 in the initial run :/
  15. Hello Thanks for doing the upgrade. FYI, if something happens to the site that looks like a DOS attack, let me know. Another site I frequent had a problem with the search engines trying to index all the posts, which just caused crashing, slow running. 1) Is there a way to turn off the alerts telling me someone has replied yet? 2) I used the "View My Content" every time I visited the forum. Will this come back as an activity stream or is there a direct link I haven't found yet? been answered. Thanks
  16. Even on my Legomanbiffo huge amounts of sounds locos do I only use a few sounds. But then my current layout simply isn't big enough for anything too exciting. I get annoyed by having to push "Shift" on my controller - would prefer more buttons so I can just turn each function on/off, but then I doubt 28 buttons will be practical!
  17. I used to think this, but camera technology moves on quite a lot, quite fast. My current phone is "okay" but I'm waiting for a year or so until the new standard of more-than-one-lens has been worked out properly. My phone is 2 years old now. Within 20 years this "Indium" will have been replaced with something else.
  18. I use old Chinese take away containers. After reading something here though, if I buy a new loco the blanking chip goes straight back in the box together with any detail parts I didn't fit. If the box is packed away, I store the detail parts in small zip-lock type bags (only a few cm square), and in a plastic Chinese container. Containers compose of: DCC Chips Motors LED Things (LEDs + resistors) Stay Alive Things (more resistors and things for home made stay alive construction). Weights People Testers (rolling road and a little LED board to test track power) Couplings (Kadee, replacement couplings) Old Parts (I have about 4 little zip lock bags inside) Track cleaning (A wagon and rubber live here) ... possibly more! If it doesn't fit in the box, it doesn't get saved. Smaller things, such as a load of blanking chips Hornby sent me, track pins, tiny screws... they're all stored in a little plastic box sort of thing that has individual dividers.
  19. As in, not MK3a but HST trailers What I'm trying to ascertain is whether Oxford are likely, or less likely to do a run of INTERCITY (NOT exec!) livery, so I can make a decision whether I should buy the currently available ones (that are fairly hard to find), without being that specific.
  20. FYI, in Chrome, right click in some empty space and choose "Translate This Page" if it doesn't automatically offer.
  21. I know it's anyone's bet, but is the general consensus that a run of normal MK3 coaches won't be happening?
  22. I got somewhat 'told off' for using the word "train" when I meant "loco".Yet... everyone knew what I meant. Was hardly worth the correction. Plus, the word "loco" doesn't fit right with a MU... Can you give an exmaple of the bronze you have bought? I'd love to add extra pickps to some locos I have but haven't found the right material to use as yet.
  23. It'll be my first time to this. I've only every been to Warley before. How does it compare?
